  1. I've enjoyed reading your history of Wanderlei Silva. I'd like you to do it for another fighter at some point.

Cheers, yeah I was thinking about that but I dunno who to do next. Was thinking maybe Nick Diaz. Problem is not all his fights are out there and easy to find like Wanderlei's. I still might do it though.

If you are taking suggestions I'd like to offer Shogun (I don't know where I got the impression you like him ;)), Rampage, Big Nog or Fedor.

    ---

    Chuck

Did you like him? Yes apart from beating Randy Couture twice.

Why? The striker who took people out in his prime, the look and the celebration. Shame he went on longer than he should have going out on numerous KO losses.

Would you have paid your money to see him? Yes.

Is he the best ever at his Weightclass Probably.

    Wanderlei

    Did you like him? Yes.

Why? One of my favourite fights for going all out. Vicious striker, one hell of a force in PRIDE. Comes across as really likeable to me in his interviews.

Would you have paid your money to see him? Yes.

Is he the best ever at his Weightclass? No.

    Shogun

    Did you like him? Yes.

Why? Vicious striker who usually finishes a fight when his opponent is hurt.

Would you have paid your money to see him? Yes.

Is he the best ever at his Weightclass? No.

    Randy

Did you like him? Hell yeah! My favourite ever fighter.

Why? A fighter who overcame the age boundary. Dropped two fights as a Heavyweight so went down to the Light Heavyweight division beating Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz in 2003 with ease becoming Interim UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, the first man to win a UFC Championship in two weight classes. Retired and came back fighting Tim Sylvia for the UFC Heavyweight Championship. Couture knocked him on his ass in the first ten seconds of the fight and dominated the fight to take a decision and regain the UFC Heavyweight Championship. Had a great fight with Big Nog, one of the best Legend vs. Legend fights you will ever see.

Would you have paid your money to see him? Certainly.

Is he the best ever at his Weightclass? No but top five in the Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight divisions.

    Fedor

Did you like him? For the most part, I wish he went to the UFC like the other big name PRIDE fighters did when the UFC bought PRIDE. Stupid M1 Global.

Why? A chubby emotionless fighter with nasty ground and pound.

Would you have paid your money to see him? Yes.

Is he the best ever at his Weightclass? Yes.

    Big Nog

    Did you like him? Yes.

Why? Nice guy out of the cage/ring. Big Nog’s biggest quality during his prime was taking brutal punishment, surviving it and slapping on a submission to win the fight.

Would you have paid your money to see him? Yes.

Is he the best ever at his Weightclass? Number two but I prefer him to Fedor.

    Tito

Did you like him? Hell No.

Why? The brashness. One of my least favourite MMA fighters so enjoyed Couture and Ortiz beating on him. Ortiz should have lost the decision against Forrest Griffin in their first fight as well. Excuses.

Would you have paid your money to see him? No

Is he the best ever at his Weightclass? Nope.

    Ken Shamrock

Did you like him? Liked him in the WWF. Used to like him in MMA.

Why? Shamrock should have retired a while ago, so past his peak but can’t call it quits.

Would you have paid your money to see him? No.

Is he the best ever at his Weightclass? Nope but he was one of the best fighters during his prime.

    Royce Gracie

Did you like him? Yes but never liked how he held on submissions in the early UFC’s when the fighter was clearly tapping out. Why? Skill beats size.

Would you have paid your money to see him? No.

Is he the best ever at his Weightclass? No.

  2. Angelo Dundee has died. :(

Oh fuck that's really sad news. He must have been in his 80's so it's not a massive shock but still sad news to wake up to. One of the greatest trainers in Boxing history, there was a reason guys like Ali, Foreman and Leonard had him around. Everytime I see Ray Leonard I think of Dundee's "You're blowing it son, you're blowing it".

    RIP

Angelo Dundee was 90 years old. Good innings. R.I.P.

  3. What's the latest score in the second BDO semi final? I don't have ESPN. Thanks!

    Tony just won 6-5

Cheers. At the beginning of the tournament I wanted Tony O'Shea to win and that hasn't changed. I liked what I watched of Wesley Harms this week.

  4. WBA ordered a rematch between Kham and Peterson.

I wasn't the biggest Amir Khan fan to begin with but I like him even less with his moaning ever since his fight with Lamont Peterson ended.

  5. Again, I don't really think this is fair to the MMA-only posters and I still don't understand why there isn't a separate MMA poster award.

Despite that, in the short time I gave MMA a go I found wandshogun a great poster and on the occasions he pops up in off-topic he seems a good bloke as well so he deserves recognition here, I think.

I agree, I voted for Wand. EBB would be another good choice, I do not watch or follow wrestling that much anymore so could not really say if the other folks have been decent this year. That said, Ian is usually on the top of his game and Pictos is a funny fucker.

Us MMA faitful should have a separate award.

I agree us MMA posters should have a separate award, hope we get one this year. I enjoy talking with the regular MMA posters, wandshogun09 gets my vote as I've enjoyed our recent conversations on all things MMA.

  6. Rob Walker still sucks balls as interviewer though.

Wasn't good as a presenter so Colin Murray took over. I miss Juliette Ferrington from BBC Radio 5 Live who conducted pre and post match interviews at the 2007 BDO World Darts Tournament.
  7. Yeah Edgar vs Maynard 2 deffo deserves to be in the top 3 I reckon.

If it doesn't then it's most likely because, as you say, there's been tons of worthy candidates this year. And also the fact that fight was almost a year ago now probably goes against it cos it's not as fresh in people's memory as fights like Hendo/Shogun, Alvarez/Chandler, Guida vs Bendo and Penn vs Diaz which were all in the last 2-3 months.

We're in agreement. I love Edgar/Maynard 2 as Edgar survived a thrashing by Maynard in the first to come back and take the second round like he did. Edgar/Maynard 2 was an amazing back and forth fight. I also liked the difference in opinion with how people scored the fight either for Edgar, others Maynard or a draw. It's one of my favourite ever fights, certainly top ten and possibly top five.

I haven't counted the votes in the thread but I think it might be missing out on top three and that for me is wrong.

  8. Regal's old He's a Man music making a quick return as he made his entrance to wrestle Daniel Bryan in the UK.

"I would like to wish John Morrison all the best in his future endeavours." - John Laurinaitis (Raw, 5/12)

Kermit the Frog thinking Vicki Guerrero was Jack Swagger's mother leading to Vicki Guerrero and Miss Piggy chest bumping while exchanging "Excuse Me's".

  9. Dan Henderson vs Shogun Rua - UFC 139

Eddie Alvarez vs Michael Chandler - Bellator 58

Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard - UFC 125

Was a hell of a year for great fights, probably the best 12 months in MMA history. But that's my best 3. Any of them would be deserving winner of FOTY.

I've picked the same fights as you and I'm also in agreement that 2011 is the best year in MMA history. Our only disagreement is on the actual FOTY. I believe it's Edgar/Maynard II and if they don't get it, Alvarez/Chandler should.
