  1. calling all Batman fans:

I have heard that Batman: Year One, The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: A Death In The Family are all very good reads.

Would I (as someone who rarely reads comic books) be able to pick them up and enjoy them, or do i have to be a fan-boy and know the complete history of everything in the Gotham City universe

Batman: Year One is the best ever Batman book. I don't rate The Dark Knight Returns like most do. You'll be fine with both but I'd recommend Batman: Year One out of the two and it's a great origin tale.

  2. Yeah that's right but we're talking about a sport where most of the participants almost have to have some level of whatever you want to call it - cockiness, arrogance, confidence, self belief.

I can see with someone like Naseem or Eubank, why they would get under people's skin. The taunting, the way they would talk, the ridiculously over the top entrances. It was pretty much their aim to provoke a reaction from the audience or the opponent.

But with Khan I don't see any particularly massively overbearing arrogance. Loads of boxers are way cockier and it gets overlooked or laughed off. Seems like it takes a lot less for a Khan comment to be deemed cocky than it does a Froch or Haye comment.

None of this is aimed at anyone on here. I'm defo not saying if you don't like Khan you must be racist. I don't get that impression off anyone here. It's more from people who don't follow Boxing all that closely, which makes the cocky stuff more puzzling to me because they're not seeing much to base it on.

I liked Eubank but I don't like Khan. I wasn't a big fan of Khan to begin with but I liked him even less with his moaning after losing to Lamont Peterson. My Dad likes Khan but even he didn't like how he acted after the Peterson fight. I don't follow boxing like I do MMA, I only watch a big boxing fight occasionally.

  3. This is why I fear getting into comics as a replacement for Wrestling. So many different arcs, confusing histories, new characters taking on the old heroes costume (like Batman I think). I'm a completest by nature, so it would likely cost me a small fortune too.

I subscribed to The Official Marvel Graphic Novel Collection, as I thought it was a fair place to dabble, and have the first 9 books of the series. Any recommendations from these to start with? Are they considered more 'kid friendly' or do they have a decent adult flavor?

    1 The Amazing Spider-Man: Coming Home, Amazing Spider-Man (Volume 2) #30-35

    2 Uncanny X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Uncanny X-Men #129-137

3 Iron Man: Extremis, Iron Man (Volume 4) #1-6

    4 The Ultimates: Super-Human, The Ultimates 1-6

    5 The Amazing Spider-Man: Birth of Venom, The Amazing Spider-Man (Volume 1) #252, 256-259, 300 & Web Of Spider-Man #1

    6 Thor: Reborn, Thor (Volume 3) #1-6

7 Captain America: Winter Soldier, Captain America (Volume 5) #8-9 and #11-14

8 The Incredible Hulk: Silent Screams, The Incredible Hulk (Volume 1) #370-377

    9 Wolverine: Wolverine, Wolverine #1-4

I'm not a subscriber but my Sister used to pick some up for me as a gift. I've read #1 and #9 years ago, both were very good. Captain America: Winter Soldier is great.

  4. Saw: Now I'd watched this a while back and really enjoyed it, the twist and all. I was surprised as I was expecting it to be a pile of shite.

It's no Seven or anything but its the best of the series from the bits I've seen of the rest because it's not just "lots of gory shit going on" like the others.

I've got the whole run cheap so I'm going to work my way through.

I like five out of the seven Saw films. I agree the first is the best. I'd rank them: I, II, VI, III, IV, V, VII.

  5. After looking at that FCA set that's coming out, it got me wondering:

How many Chicago Street Fights have there been collectively in WWE, WCW, ECW and TNA? I can count three (Uncensored '96, WM13 and Extreme Rules), is there any other notable ones?

Crap quality and i'm not even sure if it properly counts but I remember them refering to it as a Chicago Street Fight at the time so.

    L.O.D. 2000 Vs D.O.A.

The Nasty Boys vs. Cactus Jack and Maxx Payne at WCW Spring Stampede 1994 was a Chicago Street Fight and the best.

  6. I forgot about this thread so just finished reading the last two entires of Wanderlei Silva's career by wandshogun09. Great read. If I remembered this thread was here, I would be the only person who would have voted against a Nick Diaz career write up and asked for a Big Nog or Shogun one instead because I don't like Nick Diaz. Hope you do them at some point wandshogun09 or my username ; ).

  7. anyone catch the Kessler-Green fight? wild little 4-rounder, Allan Green got KTFO!

Didn't watch the fight but saw the KO. KTFO is right. One of the nastiest KO's I've ever seen was Sergio Martinez on Paul Williams in their second fight. Fucking brutal. Williams was well and truly KTFO.
  8. On the UK Delta VHS release of "ECW Barely Legal 1997", is the Raven vs Terry Funk match cut to shreds by the BBFC overlords? I can't find anything to suggest it was. Thanks!

It's edited for about ten seconds early in the match because of Terry Funk's blood loss. I watched the UK Delta VHS release when it came out and years later I watched the unedited version.

  9. Thiago Santos was 11 pounds overweight so Eric Prindle awarded the heavyweight tournament win, the money and title shot. Santos should be ashamed.

  10. It might be the worst I've seen. King Mo/Lorenz Larkin at Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine was bad this year with Kim Winslow as referee was bad but not at the level Curran/Warren was. Fuck.

  11. Five years ago yesterday, this happened...

One of my favourite ever MMA fights because of the questions leading up to it about Randy Couture (coming out of retirement plus Sylvia was younger and had the height/weight/reach advantage) and how the fight went down.
