  1. Either California or San Francisco has just passed a law which says you can't include free toys in a fast food meal unless the meal includes fruit or vegetable.

I'm kind of torn on that one. I approve of the idea in practice, but my libertarian principles (which get more and more worn down by government behavior) say that's not for government to decide, but instead the chains should be forced to put up massive signs saying "Our kiddie meals are full of ludicrously unhealthy crap".

It's a parent's responsibility and choice to enquire into what is in the food and whether to buy it for their child. Don't get me wrong, I think ingredients should be printed on all food packaging, but that's as far as any Gov should interfere IMO.

  2. Did anyone watch the Trillion pound horror shows on C4 last night?

The best show the channel has ever produced, the ridiculous spending policies of successive governments have brought the UK nearly to its knees, 4 million more people than needed in the public sector. The show was just astoundingly correct. It showed up Labour and the Unions immeasurably who everyone with even a modicum of knowledge haven't been listening to anyway.

Our children will suffer for these policies considerably worse than we do now, they're borrowing tens of billions a year just to pay into the public sector pensions, an enormous time bomb of itself. The cuts are exactly like emptying a free flowing bath with an eggcup.

Couldn't agree more with this. Astounding piece of Television and sort of affirms a lot of my views on the current state of the UK as a whole.

Probably should redistribute that wealth or something shouldn't they.

Not at all, but they probably shouldn't be involved in writing government policy on obesity, alcohol and diet-related disease.

As the article said, it's a bit like handing smoking policy over to the tobacco industry.

But that's unlikely to be the reality though. The higher likelihood is to have a mutual agreement between the Gov and the fast food industry, for example "we'll remove the ban on junk food adverts during the daytime as long as you use healthier ingredients in your products (whatever those may be)"

Edit: By the way, for those who didn't see "The Trillion Pound Horror Story" here it is.

  3. Two thoughts from watching Corrie for the first time in years last night.

    #1 That molly's a bit weird looking

#2 Jacks death was by far one of the most superb deaths I've ever seen in a soap. So beautifully done.

  4. She could easily be talking to Kirk via one of those flip communicator things I suppose.

I do love Time Traveller stories. If you look back into history there are some crazy figures who sometimes turn up at Royal Courts claiming to be immortal, or time travellers and whatnot. The idea they might be telling the truth is incredibly evokative.

    Really?

  5. You *tell* people how they are wrong, how they are stupid, how their beliefs, politically, are so wrong. And it's annoying.

Well, i'm *telling* you to fuck off, lad. You're acting like a mentalist.

    So back on topic.

Hands up who agrees with the cuts, or most of them anyway.

  6. So the same guy that predicted the October 13th decloaking has made another prediction that on October 29th at 5:30pm, President Obama will make a disclosure announcement seeing the ETs reveal themselves completely to the world. Seems a bit more of an exact prediction than the October 13th one and there's no "free will can always change the date" type thing so needless to say I'm kind of excited

Seems to fit with the rumours that Obama was going to be the one that made disclosure and you all know how I love a good Alien story. Just thought I'd share.

  7. Or are you just talking wet again because not everyone goes along with lunatic shite that the likes of you, Steveo and Duane do?

I fully acknowledge that the majority of it is lunatic shite, and that I am guilty in falling for it too easily. I don't believe in Lizard people and things like that, I just find the idea of us being on the edge of something major involving a mass revealing of extraterrestrial life both interesting and exciting.

  8. This may be true, although id think in anybodys estimation 20+ years is a long time, and depending on where they are from, isnt the nearest galaxy 1000+ light years away?

In regards to the hawing/einstien theorys, i havent heard of these, although did watch the hawking program on saturday as was wondering how it is he thinks these ideas will work? His theory was about time travel. Some of it made sense, that large objects drag on time etc, although his theory to obit the nearest super massive black hole was what got me. The mechanics behind it were fine , (iif you orbit the black hole for 5 years, 10 years will have passed on earth aparently), but im unsure yyou could orbit a black hole..........and another problem would be getting there and back.......tis X ammount of million light years away.

Thing is though, your perceptions are based on what WE know currently of physics and technology. A theory is that we're quite a young planet compared to some parts of the universe and it's thought that alien races have existed for millions, possibly billions of years longer than humans and would thus have more advanced technology and knowledge about the physics of the Universe so what we see as the speed of light and travelling through space and other elements of the Universe, even at its most advanced level may, in a sense, be "The Universe for Dummies" compared to a more advanced alien species.

Thought this recent story about the planet discovered in the 'Goldilocks' zone would be relevant to this thread considering the recent story from the Telegraph.

I honestly think something big is coming in relation to some form of extraterrestrial disclosure. Seems to be more and more news recognising the genuine possibility of Alien life in a serious way rather than in a mocking sense which leads me to believe this is a gradual media preparing of the public towards a bigger and more ground breaking story.

I actually found it quite sad & poignant at the end. I found myself sympathising with them & hoping they wouldn't die. A credit to the quality of the writing & acting.

Just read that it's got American distribution. Can't see it doing very well over there as lots of the references are very British.

SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read

Agreed. The saddest for me was Waj's "I don't know what I'm doing", right before he detonated

Couldn't agree more with that, found myself in a weird sort of way wanting them to achieve their goal of successfully blowing themselves up during the marathon, I know that's a messed up thing to say but it's the genuine effect it had on me. Superbly written, I loved the "I may ask you to blow yourself up, but I'd never ask you to piss in your own gob" line.

  11. I was just going to bump this thread myself. Amazing episode, Crackhead phil has been some of the best acting I've ever seen on Eastenders. Will be sad to see Peggy go tomorrow, but at least she doesn't die and will allow for a return sometime in the future.

  12. The Expendables. - Fairly good film that brings some of the biggest action film legends all into the one major action experience. Loved the chaotic action sequences and there was a lot of blood and guts to please anyone, but the scene I was disappointed with was the scene featuring Arnie, Bruce Willis and Sly. 3 of the biggest movie stars all on the one screen for the first time in history and it just didn't feel as big or important as I think it should have done. Although I enjoyed the line

"What's his problem?" "He wants to be President".

Maybe a second will deliver more, though I'll also say Mickey Rourke gave a truly splendid performance as always.

That part should probably be spoiler tagged.

Wouldn't say a spoiler of anything that happens in the movie, just a quote from a certain part of it.
