  1. Great posts, as always Richie!

I saw the results on Cagematch. I noticed the John Rare match was a 4 minute no contest and wondered what mad shit he'd done this time to cause the match to end abruptly. Hacked off a limb or something. As it happens, it's the other IWA DS trope of non-deathmatch guy getting in over his head and bailing early.

Re. The Body, if you're not aware of his... erm body of work, it's worth looking up some of his stuff in XPW. The the end of this match is a sufficiently brutal example

As not a regular watcher of AEW, why was Jericho in his auld ECW getup?

I'm assuming that it's just because it was an FTW title match, a belt created in ECW.

He really needs to just go away for a while and stop with the lazy attempts at cheap pops. More importantly, he needs to be very careful with how he returns after a break or else it will achieve nothing.

  3. I've just finished reading the Pat Patterson autobiography, Accepted. Found in a charity shop in Bangor.

It's very candid and it was interesting reading about his experiences as a gay man in the 50s and 60s.

The book was essentially hundreds of paragraph-long anecdotes. He doesn't go into detail about anything - the Slaughter match is a couple of paragraphs at best, mentions wrestling a bear as a throwaway sentence, mentions not remembering winning the Intercontinental title or even remembering visiting Rio where if you didn't know the story the joke would make no sense.

All in all, an easy read, with some interesting stuff, but don't go out of your way to read or expect in-depth stories.

  4. Reading the front pages of the papers today, I noticed the Daily Star has a story on the French government releasing their "X Files" to the public.

I could only find one article about it online though https://bnnbreaking.com/world/france-unveils-x-files-archive-igniting-global-ufo-transparency-movement

I know the French have a history of UFO transparency, most notably releasing a load of their archives in 2007.

Is anyone able to provide more detail on this, or where the files can be found?

I picked some up off ebay a little while ago just to browse through. Happy to scan one over to you

I'd also love to see one of the old catalogues. Especially from late 90s/early 00s when DVDs were just coming in.

I think it was last year when he had his Mrs come out for a match with him

This is correct. I think she wrestler as something like Miz Feit, or some other weird spelling of Misfit. I'm sure she must have been a replacement for somebody and not the original plan.

Also agree that it was a shame Necro never did anything more mainstream. I think TNA missed a trick not bringing him in for a short run post-The Wrestler. Imagine Necro Butcher vs Kurt Angle!

  7. I think most in the deathmatch scene will be aware of Alex Nibiev and it would be awesome to see him on a US show or in a tournament. At this point it must be a cost and/or logistics thing. I imagine flights aren't cheap and I'm not sure how easy it is to get into the US from Russia (purely for tourism, wink wink).

It's pretty fucked up that Nibiev gets all the attention from that coat hanger incident and not the poor fella who had his head sliced up and lost pints of blood.

PCO took a bump onto a concrete slab that had thumbtacks on it.

I was wondering what are some of the more crazy/insane spots in recent years that are completely forgotten about ?

Secondly, is PCO not in complete shit from a physical point of view.

I checked out this match based purely on the comments about the bump here and elsewhere, so I think it did get some coverage. Personally, I thought it looked really shit - in the vein of if something is so genuinely dangerous you can't do it properly, why bother in the first place?

See also, John Rare (allegedly) getting his finger cut off and it never being mentioned again days later.

Also, the Money In The Bank On The Roof match, where someone got "thrown off the roof". Very safely done, but never mentioned again.

Speaking of PCO, the spot where he had his mouth stapled shut - sick, visually violent, must have hurt like shit, but barely mentioned since!

Is his MAGA shtick legit? I mean anyone in XPW is a dickhead but he seems to have gone off on the deep end.

A couple of years ago, he was very vocally pro-Trump and right wing on social media. I don't know if he stills thinks like that or is parodying himself now. It definitely seems the complete opposite of how he used to think (or how he came across, at least).

I think this is at least the second time Gauntley has tried to bring Butcher over. My memories might be getting mixed up, but there was a deathmatch tournament planned for Sheffield after the 'successful' first PW101 show. I pre-bought tickets, like an absolute idiot, and the show got cancelled. Steven still owes me money for that, but the excuses and avoiding not refunding me were such a headache I gave up.

  10. Had a blast at All In. One of the most amazing experiences of my life!

Something I've been wondering; we were in one of the top tiers, right by one of the big screens. Some stage hands unfurled 6 massive 'House of Black' banners right in front of us.

Have they ever used these on TV before? They didn't seem to be acknowledged in the arena and I didn't spot them on the broadcast. Seems a funny waste of time and money to not even show them on camera. They looked cool, so a shame as well.

  11. I don't understand why they've changed the interface. It's never been the most intuitive layout, but this is like the Beta version of an app.

No idea where the search or half the categories have gone.

Continue watching seems to have reinstated everything I've ever watched.

  12. So pleased to see you back Richie! I love this thread and it's all really thanks to your original amazing, in-depth reviews.

The deathmatch scene has really changed since then, from a niche part of wrestling to a much more prominent and distinct part of it. Who would have thought when the original Deathmatch thread was created we'd have seen one on national television? Then there's the success of GCW.

I've only recently discovered the UK scene as well, in RISE and KCW (and another I forget). And running shows so local to me - Sheffield, Leeds, Derby and Chesterfield. Now I just need them to run a show on a day I don't already have plans!

  13. I really wanted to like the Foley podcast.

I listened to the first half an hour or so but it was so rambling. I started skipping ahead but every bit I got to was so mundane. For example, a story about not being able to attend a WM after-party because he had to look after his youngest.

I finally got to a bit where they were talking about the match the episode was meant to be about, his HIAC retitement, after 2 and a half hours. He was just saying *exactly* the same as he wrote in his book about it 20 years ago. Nothing new.

Maybe the next episode will be better when he's settled in, but I'm not sure if I'll be wasting my time to find out.

I hope the Regal one is better. I loved his TIJ interview, so hope for more of the same.

  14. If there were more than 250 people there I'd be surprised.

They'll probably bump everyone's seats down, like the old TNA shows over here, so no need to buy anything than the cheapest ticket.

Is it still due to air on Fite as well?

    From their website:

    £320,50

Includes ringside seats FREE singed merchandise and meet some of your favorite superstars

Singed merchandise; "It's just a little burned, it's still good, it's still good."

i never get the leave the shop with them. Something always happens and I never get to buy them.

This type of thing is a reoccurring dream for me. Last week, it was a shop full of cheap, old games consoles.

    ---

Last night, I dreamed Hogan made an appearance in 1997 ECW, dressed in bWo colours. He surrounded the ring with a load of fans dressed up as him, with a cage around them.

Then, I woke up with the thought that if Windham Rotunda were to return to wrestling, he could have a gimmick of "The Sci-fi Dude" Bray Radbury.
