WHAT PLAY YOU?

I finally decided to get Resident Evil 4 a few days ago, I had read the great reviews for it but I had put off buying it due to not playing any Resident Evil games since 2 on the Playstation back in 1998, I was worried there would be loads of back story and references that I would not get. I am glad I decided to buy it because I love this game, it is pretty much its own story and I can easily pick everything up without much knowledge of the previous games (although I do have memories of 1 and 2 which are referenced at the beginning of the game).I am just about to start the castle levels but so far I have enjoyed every moment of this game, it is just superb in pretty much every way.In the past few weeks alone my faith has been restored in both the Tomb Raider and Resident Evil franchises.

Yeah, there was a big discussion about SH4 in this thread a few months back. You should be able to find it if you search or just page back for it. Consensus was: it has a few good psychological scares but the game mechanics let the series down very very badly. Not recommended unless you can rent it or get it very cheap.

Got really into Star Wars Battlefront II recently.

Great game, but you get absolutely nothing for completing it, no bonuses, extra maps or anything. You do get a big slice of satisfaction though. If you have it on XBOX theres a couple of Downloads floating about, some of which are free.

Last but not least, old PS2 barnstormer Gitaroo Man. Look, forget this Guitar Hero bollocks. I've seen it in the shop. You stand there pressing buttons and flapping your paddle without getting shot at or anything. That's not rock'n'roll, it's glorified bemani. THIS is rock'n'roll. Save the universe with the power of ROCK~! whilst listening to mentalist Japanese prog-rock and destroying every tendon in your fingers in the process. Yes.

Have you even PLAYED Guitar Hero? Greatest game this year, period, no questions asked, the only other game in recent history that even comes close to the originality and greatness of this is We Love Katamari (Bring out the original dammit!).Top quality versions of songs in the game, and while easy is just way TOO easy, you go to medium, which is a good challenge for newbies, but when you get onto hard and expert, they're serious wrist breakers with some of the speed that you have to change notes and chords.Okay, some people may be put off by the

No. Since I've been playing a real guitar for over fifteen years, I don't particularly feel the need. I can play Cowboys from Hell in real life, see?Have you even PLAYED Oblivion? Since you think Guitar Hero is the greatest game this year, period, no questions asked, I thought it'd be fair to ask. Also - learn to recognize a tongue-in-cheek post when you see one.

I know plenty of people who play real guitar, who still rock out on this... and still miss a note or two (and that's on medium).and by that comment it's "my" greatest game this year, never said it was anyone elses. Of course, it would help to know what Oblivion was, as there's quite a few genres that the "new age" consoles have actually screwed up (such as the first person shoot 'em ups, had a go at Black, which is massively over-rated, games don't need to be tough to the point that you need pin point accuracy to hit something, and not be able to see the people shooting at you... they need to go back and look at what made Doom so popular... and it wasn't fancy graphics...)GH is quirky, original, fun, and the type of game anyone can get into (When your 60 year old deputy manager has a go, and declares she wants a copy as well... you've definitely got a game that appeals to all generations). As for the tongue in cheek comment, meh, I never took it as one, but I'm easy to get to rant anyway, whether it's against ya or not, hell... the only reason I opened the thread was to see if anyone had mentioned GH, and if not, to mention the quality of the game myself (yes, the game's good enough for me to open a thread just to see if it needs comments making about it).Hence the long rant. I like rants... :D

The one constant in the universe is that there will always be lots and lots of shit guitarists. :)

Review by me about six posts up. Also, website.Ever try Master Mode, Johnny? I actually got to the final stage of Flyin' once, and then it just gets stupid. :(

Even though the guy who created one of the songs can't hit it 100% on expert? :) (and he had to play said song, for it to be in the game, so it's not like he can't play it on a real guitar). Not saying it's tougher than a real guitar, but because it's different, you can't compare the two, because you can drive a real car, do you refuse to play games like GTA, Gran Turismo etc.? Or perhaps wrestlers don't play wrestling games because they "can do it in real life"? Or mebbe people who dance for a living wont touch the dance mat games? As for the Eldar Scrolls game, I may buy it in the future, but it's not something that instantly jumps out at me and says "buy me now!" like Soul Calibur 3 did, or We Love Katamari, or FFVII & VIII on the PSOne... I admit, not many games do scream at me to buy 'em these days. But I'll likely wait for it to become pre-owned, in the past 12 months, I've only bought 4 new games... and only 2 of them were day of release (Guitar Hero & Katamari), the other two (God of War and GT4) I picked up 'cause they were going cheap in Woolworths while I was having to wait for a bus in Witney last Friday (only to find they don't work... off to take 'em back to the local Woolworths tomorrow... I mean seriously, what's the chances of two games from the same place just refusing to be read by the PS2... and it ain't the console, I only bought the thing at Christmas)I said I liked going on a rant didn't I? :D

On looking into Oblivion further, I might have got the game if it was released on PS2, but seeing as I don't own an X-Box of any kind (and have zero intentions of doing so), and refuse to play games on the PC (not only does it cost an arm and a leg to constantly upgrade for every new game... but it means I can't do sod-all else on the PC at the same time, I can at least play PS2 games and just pause to talk to people online without problem), it means even trying the game is out for me.That's the only problem with having so many consoles and such around... there's always a game on one you haven't got that you wouldn't mind playing, but refuse to shell out the cash to buy a console for a single game (Okay... so I did that with the Dreamcast to play Sonic Adventure, but I still count that as the best game of all time, so I landed on my feet there).

I agree, the majority of games lately suck massively, the amount of work you have to do on some of the shooting ones just to hit someone sucks the fun out of it (re: Black). Some the camera angle just jumps in all sorts of wrong directions, whether you want it to or not (re: Tomb Raider Legend, Sonic Adventure (the game owns, but the camera angle is annoying)).There are other problems I have with 'em, but that's two of my main ones, so it's rare to find a game that's really worth playing.Another reason why Guitar Hero and We Love Katamari rock so much :D.
