Found the bit I remembered, from Figure 4 Weekly:

WWE bans synthetic marijuana

WWE is now testing for synthetic marijuana, which until three months ago was sold under the brand names of Spice, K2, Blaze and Red Dawn. Marketed as "insence," the chemicals gave a high similar to that of marijuana, and would not show up as marijuana on a drug test. When WWE began testing for pot, and fining wrestlers $2,500 per failure, many switched to the synthetic version which was sold over the counter in many head shops and online. Last year the DEA started receiving reports of Spice-related emergency room visits and announced at the end of 2010 plans for a one-year ban to be put into place to determine whether the substance should be added permanently to the banned list. The ban officially went into effect March 1st. Many WWE employees (not just wrestlers) were regular synthetic marijuana smokers. There was a great deal of unhappiness when the original pot ban was put into effect, as many wrestlers believe that marijuana is far more benign than, say, prescription pills, and many in WWE were extremely upset when the testing for the synthetic version was put into place. There are wrestlers who believe that the company is banning a legal substance, though, as noted, the substance has been banned for several months now, and is, in fact, considered a Schedule I drug at this point. Cocaine, it should be noted, is only classed as a Schedule II drug.
