  1. He has a pretty good slot on Radio 5 I believe(I don't know when, google it if you care). Anytime I've heard him in the past few years, he's been a pretty decent broadcaster, though I freely admit I only hear him when he's interviewing someone I'm interested in. I can think of far worse broadcasters in mainstream slots, Jeremy Vine and Simon Mayo immediately spring to mind.

  2. Danny Baker is a an absolute force on Radio. Whatever you think of his TV work (I think it's mostly shit), he really comes into his own on the airwaves. His football shows with Danny Kelly were such a joy, especially when compared to the po faced shit you normally get with football discussion. Want to hear callers talk of whether or not Man U can win things with kids? Zzzzz. Want to hear someone ring in with a tale about a PE teacher who reffed games from his car using the lights to make decisions? Now you're talking. In a similar way to Fantasy Football League, they had an eye on the irreverent and an understanding about what football fans actually talk about. His non football shows are great too, he's an anecdote machine and full of passion. Not really heard a DJ that matches him.

Some kind soul has uploaded a load of his stuff here. Dabble and enjoy.

  3. Clarke Carlisle? Campbell must have got him on. True fact: Alistair Campbell told my mate in the away end during the Reading v Burnley game, that Eddie Howe was certain to be the next Burnley manager, when the odds were about 11-1. He didn't stick the bet on after much consideration, and it came to pass. He was gutted. Things to take from this? Campbell has connections in the Burnley board and if he offers you a good tip, fucking take it, even if you think he's a cunt.

  4. Being critical isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long as you're interesting with it. Fin Martin isn't, or at least not any more. I occasionally read old issues on the bog, and it's always articles written by other contributors which are the more interesting. I recently re-read Rob Butchers review of a Fall Brawl (1998 I think) while pinching off a loaf that was hilarious, and it was stuffed to the gills with negativity.

That said, I haven't read a new PS in a long time, so it's difficult to comment on the current product.

  5. Just subscribed to Wrestling Observer, anyone got any recommendations of podcasts/newsletters to download?

There's a lot of good interviews in the Figure Four Daily archive and ones that Dave Meltzer conducts in the Wresting Observer archive. Generally speaking if it's someone your interested in then it'll probably be quite good, but I found that the Bruno Sammartino interviews were particularly good. There's a Bob Mould one from years back that I really enjoyed. Mikey Whipwreck is pretty good value too.

  6. It was on an old Hulk Hogan video release, it was the match against The Big Boss Man in a steel cage match. Can someone confirm the date of the match and whether or not it's the match on the latest Silvervision Hulk Hogan dvd release?

Judging by the date on the recent Silver Vision DVD (December 17, 1988), thats a match from a house show around Survivor Series 88. That isnt the same match from the Best of Hulkamania video, because that was held before WrestleMania 5, which might have been in the Boston Gardens on March 16, which was held in a cage. There was a more famous Boss Man vs Hogan Cage Match held on May 27, 1989 which was the debut of Zeus and the end of the long running feud between Hogan and Boss Man, which was released on the Best of Saturday Nights Main Event video back in the early 90s. Either way, there are so many Boss Man/Hogan matches out there on video and DVD, you probably wont run into the same on twice.

What sort of business did that feud do? I'd always assumed since they never really did anything else top line with Boss Man again that it must have been a failure, but if it went on for a while, I guess it wasn't too shabby?

  7. Watched Enduring Love last night. Often felt like watching from the halfway point despite watching it from the start. The initial hot air balloon sequence was great, but after that it started to crumble a bit. Why at no point did Daniel Craig's character attempt to contact the police? Why is his girlfriend so short with him? He's being fucking stalked for Christ's sake. It was all very clumsy. I've not read the book so if someone has, can they fill me in?
