  1. I managed to watch ROH spoiler free from 2005 (Dethroned was spoilt for me though!) upto early 2007 when they started the PPVs, I think Gabe actually made it easier back then as the site and forum didnt reveal spoilers not that I visited the site much, only to order DVDs. You only have to log onto the main page today and have results spoilt for you

  2. <-- click on 'spoiler' to show/hide the spoiler

Really chuffed for Eddie, really interesting to see how his reign goes and the direction they go with Davey Richards as they are both very popular guys. Cant see there being much for Strong to do now, as much as I like him he definately needs a break from ROH, hopefully he takes the HOT with him.

What are the odds on Eddies first two title defenses being against Jay Briscoe and Colt Cabana.

Using spoiler tags pretty much gives away the result, do we need them?

  3. In NYC news, seems we can expect KOW vs LAX next month.

    Low-Ki?

Itll be Hernandez! They are LAX

Homicide and Low-Ki were The Rottweilers in ROH.

Im all for Ki in ROH, would certainly breathe some life into the main event

  4. Pick 6 Series: Roderick Strong (1) vs Colt Cabana (4)- Cabana goofing around here is ridiculous - you're supposed to be going for revenge for losing out on a title shot in the Toronto Gauntlet *sigh*. Even when he stops messing around, you still don't get the impression Cabana is taking the match seriously, and Roderick as a heel shows no personality whatsoever. He could basically be anyone, and the action is dull as ditchwater as a result. Tack on a dreadful finish, with the ref getting caught in the corner and Truth Martini hitting Cabana with the Book of Truth again, before Strong hits the gutbuster/big boot combo for three at 14:23, and you have a pretty dreadful match overall.

Cabana is fast becoming an embarrassment. The frustrating thing is he's such a good wrestler, but all he seemingly wants to be remembered as is a comedy guy.

Incidentally does anyone know why Bravados vs Super Smash Brothers didn't ever air on TV?

I was a huge Cabana fan a few years ago, even had a couple of singlets which Ive since sold, I agree totally, its basically the same old shit. He was okay during the Steen-Generico fued but he was just a bit-part player and we've seen in the past how great he can be as his run in 2005-06 showed. To me the Andy Ridge trial match was the biggest piss-take, instead of making the rookie look even half-decent he was just a pawn for Cabana 'comedy' schtick.

He seems more interested in his Stand-up stuff right now which from what Ive seen also aint great. His weekly podcast is very good, only because of the quality of guests he has on.

  5. Does this EVOLVE promotion actually have story lines or is it just random matches

It has storylines, it is still pro wrestling after all.

They dont have over the top skits (maybe Larry Dallas?) but the wrestlers cut promos and most have decent stories to tell and reasons for being there. The wins and losses record actually play a big part in the 4 shows Ive seen and make for some interesting angles.

  6. I always prefered the Briscoes/KOW match from DBD over Tyler/Richards, I just couldn't get into it and the tag match was brutal fun which is why its my MOTY for 2010.

Having justed watched the Final Battle dvd Id say that the Strong/Richards is the strongest ROH title match from last year, plus if the Steen/El Generico battle was a little shorter that would be my MOTY without doubt, I felt that there were too many near falls at the end, though the actual finish is great.

Im looking forward to the KOW/Wolves match from the night before which has gotten a ton of hype.

Haven't gotten round to ordering Evolve:5 yet, kind of waiting to see if the promotion is still worth following (no news whatsoever this year) before I spunk more cash on DVDs. I really enjoyed the first four shows and the three Bobby Fish matches (Hero, Claudio and Danieslon) would easily make my top ten.

I think the reason the Taker/HBK match from last year is regarded so highly is due to the build, it was perfect and led to a very good match on the night, being at 'Mania undoubtedly gives the match extra prestige. I haven't watched it since but its still the best WWE have offered in 2010.

  7. Just to add o the above list, Ive listed what I think is still available and worth checking out on ROHwrestling.com and they nearly always have offers on, they have a $10 plus 20%off on right now

  8. For a more "Casual" ROH fan, what are the best DVDs to focus on?

for example: Death before dishonor, supercard of honor, survival of the fittest, final battle etc. Basically the main cards? Or are some of the inbetween shows also good for getting?

I really want to start collecting thse shows, as ROH production has really picked up in the past year or so, but i cant be doing with 500+ dvds.

There are about 270 and an awful lot are out of print. Yeah the ones you mentioned are the 'bigger' shows, also go for PPVs and iPPVs. A few pages back someone asked a similar question and got some replies.

Starting out. Must haves are the Milestone series from 2006 and the Anniversary shows, also go for shows with World Title changes and more important matches in ROH History (Joe vs Punk, Joe vs. Kobashi, DG six-man etc). There some very good reviews in this thread, or check out the ROH forum. There is a website that lists and reviews the better shows but I cant remember the address.

The in-between shows or B-shows can be hit or miss, Richards vs. Daniels and Best Friends, Stiffer Enemies 2 are must-haves from 2010 alone, but there are plenty from this year that are skippable. Generally shows the night before the big show tend not to be so good, although I hear great things about the Tag Title Classic 2 show prior to Final Battle 2010.

Keep an eye out on ebay or amazon for the Out of Print dvds, they do show up at decent prices, do not pay the ridiculous prices sellers have OOP dvds listed for, cheaper do show up, be patient.

  9. Just watched Survival of the Fittest 2010, what a disappointment!

Really wished they had switched the winner of the tourney as Eddie working hurt (injured his shoulder in his qualifier with Hero which was motn) really killed the main event. Claudio was class as always so why they couldnt give him the trophy, even King impressed. Adam Cole did a decent sell job against the ANX which was the bulk of this match last just over 20 minutes.

If you haven't been impressed with Strong's title reign so far then this show wont convince you otherwise, he is almost a spare part in the six man, overshadowed in the pre-match by Truth (brink back Sweeney!) and Elgin.

Andy Ridge looked okay vs. Homicide, was impressed with his promo in the videowire. Can't stand his gear though.

Another dead ROH crowd also doesn't help.

Definately skippable unless you dont own any of the matches on the Best of McGuinness bonus disc.

  10. In fairness the tv was always loaded with squash matches.

The tapings also included Davey saying if he didnt win his next World title match, he would never challenge for it again. The announced Richards v Cabana for 9YAS. Prince Nana unveiled his new Embassy featuring Ciampa as the crown jewel.

The Top Prospect tournament is a decent way to introduce new faces even though it was bleeding obvious Bennett would win from his interactions with Daniels. Bennett had words with Steve Corino, who had been saying all along that O'Reilly would win, then attacked him.

Corino also put over Generico saying he was in for big things this year after what he went through the last year with Steen. Generico also gave "fist bumps" to King and Titus after helping them clear out the Kings, which the ROHbots have interpreted as officially marking the ANE face turn.

It was a poor response to the results on my part, extremely hanging today. I believe these are the last set of taping so i dont know where they would go with any of it anyway. They havent got another network yet so i doubt these shows will be anything but hype for the Wrestlemania weekend iPPV shows when they air. With them coming of HDNet, i dont think its wise to give away any free decent matches in the run up to the iPPV, so its more reason to buy the iPPVs. From Daveys comments i fully expect him to take the title at WM weekend. With ANX turning maybe the Briscoes will finally turn heel and make them watchable again, as i feel they have become very stale in the last 2 years. Another Crown Jewel, yawn. I think your right about Bennett due to his interaction with Daniels.

Haven't seen anything of Thomasso Ciampa, but if its booked anything like Embassy 04-05 then it could work. The 2009-10 version was terrible, god knows what they were trying to achieve with the faction then but it didnt do its members (Ryan, Stevens) any favours.

The Briscoes have been so much better to watch this past year or so, thats definately due to the KOW reforming and the emergence of ANX. Im looking forward to the Briscoes vs. Haas/Benjamin though. I dont think Pearce had any idea what to do with them though, much like the Embassy.

I hate the stip of if he doesnt win his next World title match, he will never challenge for it again. It pretty much guarantees he will win and that will be the second World title change in a row that we see coming.

  11. (11) Kenny King pinned Chris Hero with a jacknife pin.

11.) Special Challenge Match: Kenny King beats Chris Hero with a jackknife cradle...and gets a beatdown for his efforts at the hands of the Kings of Wrestling. Security came out but didn't end up being much help. El Generico and Colt Cabana made the save. Generico fistbumps Rhett and King!

ANX turning face, will be interesting, personally wouldn't do it as they are both natural heels. I can't see the fans cheering them over the KOW.

Who is Johnathan Gresham? he was the mystery entrant in the Top prospect tournament, Ive not heard of him, is he any good?

  12. By Mike Johnson. PWInsider

Ring of Honor's Atlanta debut events over Wrestlemania weekend at Center Stage will both be Internet PPV, ROH President Cary Silkin announced today.

While appearing on the Fight Show in Canada, Silkin commented, "We will be doing our WrestleMania weekend shows live. Both nights will be available live on gofightlive.com"

ROH will be running the former home of WCW Saturday Night on Friday evening 4/1 and Saturday afternoon 4/2.

    For ticket information, visit www.rohwrestling.com.

  13. ROH initially tried to push them as babyfaces; but the fans quite rightly farted on it. So now they have some sort of mamas-boys heel gimmick

Have ROH ever had a decent January?

2006? Hell Freezes Over plus Danielson vs. Styles

Yeah, and Ive just remembered Without Remorse from 2008 being a very good show but generally January shows aren't great.

  14. Taken from the ROH forum, another show that doesnt look too great but as a Jay Briscoe mark, Im looking forward to seeing the main.

ROH Live Event - 1/15/11 - Charlotte, NC

    1. Tag Team Re-Match

The Bravado Brothers of Harlem & Lance over Kyle O'Reilly & Adam Cole via roll-up and holding of the tights on O'Reilly.

    2. Challenge Match

"Addicted to Love" Rhett Titus over Caprice Coleman after the Golden Rule

    3. Challenge Match

Colt "Boom Boom" Cabana over Grizzly Redwood via Billy Goat's Curse

    4. Challenge Match

"The Prodigy" Mike Bennett over Cedric Alexander

    5. Ring of Honor World Television Title Match

ROH World Television Champion "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels over Claudio Castagnoli w/ Shane Hagadorn & Sara Del Rey in his 1st defense. During the match, Mike Bennett tried to get Claudio to use the belt on Daniels, but he tossed it back. Daniels won after the BME.

    6. Challenge Match

Steve Corino v. Andy "Right Leg" Ridge

~Pre-match, Corino cuts another promo, much like the one from Richmond.

Corino decides to change the match and team with Andy Ridge and brings out Alabama Attitude (Mike Posey & Corey Hollis)

    6. Steve Corino & Andy "Right Leg" Ridge over Alabama Attitude of Mike Posey & Corey Hollis following Emerald Dream and a Superkick on Hollis

    7. Challenge Match

Davey Richards over "That Young Knock Out Kid" Chris Hero w/ Shane Hagadorn & Sara Del Rey via a cross arm breaker, which was preceded by a shooting star press and kimura. Hero had loaded his Golden Elbow, but Sinclair caught him and removed the pad. MOTN so far.

    8. Four Corner Survival Match

El Generico over "Pretty Boy Pitbull" Kenny King, "The Notorious 187" Homicide and Mark Briscoe when he pinned King following a Brainbuster Suplex.

Post-match, Homicide asked Generico for handshake and then hit him with a CopKilla!!!

    9. Ring of Honor World Title Match

ROH World Champion Roderick Strong over Jay Briscoe following a Suplex Backbreaker and Gibson Driver.

    Highlights included:

~Jay Briscoe gushing blood after Roddy smashes his head into the barricade multiple times on the outside.

~Jay's head is "a faucet of blood" and Roddy told him to "Man Up MFer!"

~Jay Briscoe with a Jay Driller through the ringside table!!!

~Post-match, Strong got on the mic and thanked Jay for the fight and "Manning Up"

  15. I don't watch any of the TV shows, only the best of HDNet dvds, so this doesnt affect my viewing of ROH.

BUT I hope they find a new network soon if the rumours of ROH getting most of their revenue from HDNet are true. This could mean another set of changes including roster cuts (thin already!) and scaling down on the number of house shows.

Hopefully another network picks up ROH (doubtful as it is)

  16. watch GBH IX and Allied Forces, i think the two Rhett Titus matches are really really good, he has come on so much as a wrestler and its nice to see someone from the school actually become a success. I really like both of their promo skills, its a lot more refreshing than the usual ROH promo and they are fun.

  17. KOW's reign doesn't even come close to Aries/Strong

In terms of length its beaten it, as for defences both Aries/Strong and the Briscoes are tied at 18 defences was it? I believe the kings have around 8ish do they? So current longest reigning champs are the kings, but can they beat the all time defence record?

I was referring to the quality of matches. They had 3-4 great bouts with the Briscoes, some fun matches with Matt Sydal and various partners and also against various Dragon Gate guys. Their match in Liverpool v The Briscoes is still the greatest Tag match in ROH history.

In my opinion KOW have only made one truly great defence of the title, against the Briscoes at DBD, the rest were average to okay plus I haven't seen the Wolves match from Plymouth yet (which I hear is great).

Here's hoping the ANX dethrone the Kings!

  18. Do all of the roh fans hate Adam Pearce as a booker and if so what was wrong with him

Whoever came in to replace Gabe was always going to find it tough to win over the fans. I liked him, especially the booking from late 09 - 2010 but that also may have more to do with Cornette. Putting the belt on Lynn and failing to pull the trigger on Black were definate lows. The Tag team division is the best its been in a long time

  19. I dont really watch ROH or indy wrestling, but I recently watched Man Up and thought it was a good event, so I'm wondering what are considered the best ROH ppv's?

Im guessing its from 2004-2007? any info would be great, cheers.

any ROH ppv is worth picking up although some are out of print.

Definately get the ippvs ROH have produced if you are going to pick up any recent ROH shows. Final Battle 09 and Big Bang are also very entertaing shows as well as the ippvs mentioned above

For 2008 there are better regular ROH shows than PPVs if you can pick them up. ROH only ran ppv from 2007 (Respect is Earned) to 2009.

  20. Have ROH Dropped the Pick 6? If so thats a bit random as they made such a big deal of it last year. I only ask as mark/jay briscoe is getting a shot at the title.......yet he wasnt in the pick 6 was he?

Also if they kept this up, it would of been good for a tag team pick 6 considering the tag team division beign how it is. Also Also, WGTT in ROH? awesome! Saw they did a few shows last year, but full time-ish? cool!

I believe it has been dropped, might have been announced on their newswires plus the change of booker may have prompted it.

It seems customary to give Jay a title shot when a new champ is crowned, no doubt Cabana will get one in Chicago

Didnt a previous stip say cabana would never get a world title shot in chicago after he lost to austin aries?

then again they may of dropped that one also.

considering the way the match finished Im sure they'd work around it
