  1. I've just been watching the first three matches of ROH World's Greatest. Going back to ROH's muffled sound quality, hardly audible commentary and slightly fuzzy picture after getting used to DGUSA is a bit of a shock to the system.

For a company who is 'number 3' the production, especially the audio, are terrible.

That being said I watched the 2nd half of Best In The World on a portable player with headphones and the audio was spot on, could hear the announcing, entrance music and promos clearly. So I tried with other shows from 2011 and again with headphones the audio is spot on.

  2. It was inevitable I guess - B.J. Whitmer makes his DG:USA debut on Sept 9th...

Also on the DG:USA Industry news thing, it says that it doesn't look like Lo-Ki will be signing with TNA. Hopefully he'll end up in DG:USA or ROH.

Im pleased for BJ Whitmer, always had a soft spot for him despite being overpushed by Sapolsky, he was an integral part of ROH between 04-07 (its best years) and gave us some memorable moments. Im glad he has overcome whatever prevented him from wrestling.

Really hope Ki comes back to ROH, the main event needs someone like him, plus him vs Davey could be great

  3. EDIT : Just read that Richards will be missing DBD 9 due to a Japan tour. Another missed iPPV. Hmmmm.

He was already scheduled to go to Japan plus their isnt anyone meaningful for him to defend the title against right now. That said I dont know why they couldnt stretch Eddie Edwards title run out a little longer until he came back.

I actually think the ROH main event needs freshening up, we have a number 1 contenders match between Edwards and Strong coming up and no doubt we will see Richards make the obligatory defences against Daniels and Jay Briscoe.

  4. Not really a rape storyline at all.

    Nicked from elsewhere:

At Ring of Honor's Sixth Anniversary Show (02/23/08) from New York City they did an angle featuring Larry Sweeney, Bobby Dempsey, and Allison Danger. They've just started up a new segment where Larry Sweeney is the host of his own talk show (kind of like the Highlight of the Night thing with Chris Jericho except Larry Sweeney is entertaining) and his guest was the ever pretty Allison Danger since she had appeared on the very first Ring of Honor show (02/23/02). This day also happened to be the birthday of Bobby Dempsey. Bobby Dempsey is very overweight but as a very young baby-face (no pun intended) and is the whipping boy for Larry Sweeney and Larry Sweeney's allies. Since this was Bobby Dempsey's birthday, Larry Sweeney wanted to give Bobby Dempsey a birthday present. He hit Allison Danger from behind knocking her out and gave Bobby Dempsey the opportunity to have his way since Bobby Dempsey most likely never has done anything with a woman (storyline-wise). Bobby Dempsey being the respectful gentlemen he is was reluctant to do so. Larry Sweeney hit Bobby Dempsey from behind causing him to fall right on top of the unconscious Allison Danger with Larry Sweeney standing on top of Bobby Dempsey preventing him from getting up. As Bobby Dempsey was struggling to get up it looked like he was "having his way" with her although he obviously wasn't. That was the gist of the angle and Larry Sweeney eventually stopped and departed as security entered the ring and Bobby Dempsey was left disgusted over what had just occurred.

wasnt a rape storyline but the fallout from certain sections (f4wonline included) you'd think it was major and some people took it too seriously.

It was meant to be a funny throwaway skit in the middle of a show, frat humour almost. Sweeney had been bullying Dempsey for a long time, this involved some funny skits where Dempsey was humiliated. This one was just the bully knocking his fat victim on an unconscious lady and saying this was his chance to 'pop his cherry'. In this instant it wasnt the funniest but it was in no way offensive. It all lead to the storyline pay-off in early 2009 when Bobby Dempsey got his revenge on Sweeney inside a cage.

  5. Where's the best place to buy PWG and/or Chikara DVDs?

Chikara dvds are sold by smartmarkvideo.com but are sold as 2 dvd-rs for $20 each

PWG from prowrestlingguerrilla.com (who are not the fastest when it comes to shipping) and highspots.com (who will charge a fortune for shipping)

theres always a few traders who will be able to get hold of shows for you but if you want to support companies then by direct from them.

  6. That said, the next event I'll be viewing is, of course, the 'Big Bang' PPV, which looks an utterly stunning line-up from what has been built to in 2010. Black vs. Aries vs. Strong, Generico & Cabana vs. Steen & Corino and Briscoes vs. Kings of Wrestling have already got me eager to throw the disc in the machine as soon as possible. Of course, full review to come....

be looking forward to reading this review and you wont be disappointed, Big Bang is a cracking show

  7. Just finished watching the Revolution shows, and although not 'absolute must-have' shows, ROH is still in top form this year.

    USA

Starts with Homicide v Ciampa. Homicide has bored me since his return and I hate the Embassy. Ciampa is wasted, from what little Ive seen of him he could be so much better. Prince Nana doesnt help him like Martini does Elgin. Which brings me onto Elgin v Andy Ridge, I enjoyed this because Elgin battered Ridge and thats exactly what I want from him. Ridge needs new gear. Mike Bennett vs. Grizzly Redwood was okay, furthered Bennett's fued with Corino, who has been great on the mic, the best in ROH this year.

I love Rhett Titus and I love ANX, their fued with the Briscoes has the potential to be fantastic. The first blood match was fine but the finish was brilliant and fun, and sets up their streetfight at SCOH perfectly. Cabana vs Chris Daniels was really average and what you'd expect from the two. Cole and O'Reilly look like they belong amongst ROH's top tags in their match against TWGGT, just wish ROH would let them win some, O'Reilly is great. Roderick Strong v El Generico in a street fight was fun, ending with the usual and expected HOT/Cabana interference.

KOW vs American Wolves was very good but no way near their Tag Title Classic II match.

    Canada

Started off with a cracking opener from Claudio and O'Reilly, great storytelling and O'Reilly really is one for 2012 but needs to break away from Cole. Corino and Bennett was fun and furthered the Corino storyline, I love Bennett and Corino is getting the best from him, needs a better finisher though. Double Danger Scramble match was fun, a bit messy but did the job in making Elgin look a monster. Davey Richards vs Kenny King was okay, but promoting it as a rematch from over a year ago was pointless and the finish was weird.

Cabana and Delirious gave a great tribute to Larry Sweeney, built around a strut-off with Sinclair getting involved. Nowhere as fun as their match here in Liverpool but still a great tribute. Daniels and El Generico was again fine, but I can never personally get into a Daniels match. The tag title match between the Briscoes and tWGTT was by the numbers but enjoyable.

The main event of Eddie Edwards and Chris Hero was fantastic, I loved it, brilliant storytelling and use of the submissions, Hero's elbows and Eddies suprkick. Even though the crowd hated the finish, I quite liked it.

If I had to pick just one show Id say go for Revolution: Canada for the opener and main event. Plus the Toronto crowd is much more hotter, although annoying at times. Ive got the next 2 shows on the way but with a my 2nd child due on Thursday I might have to have a break from ROH for a while.

Will be keeping an eye out though for the weekends results, as the the new logo will be introduced and that means new ring and barriers etc. Be interesting to see what it looks like

  8. What's the deal with the whole cloak and dagger routine regarding the shows for the rest of the year? Why exactly do they have to wait until the first show airs on Sept 24th? Seems a bit odd to me.

    from PWInsider....

The promotion plans to be light on the live events going into the Fall and then begin running more events come January. There's actually talk of running 2-3 show loops on a regular basis come 2012.

Ive also read that they are lining up shows in markets where the TV show will air. Although not having a December NYC show on the schedule is a strange one, and with no house shows scheduled until Sept (which I presume is Glory by Honor) it means we could be without new ROH dvds for a bit.

It is a shame though because ROH have been on a real roll this year and I wouldnt want to see that momentum broken up by the changeover.

  9. Why is it taking them so long to put DVD's out? It's worse than back in the old RF Video days!

its terrible, Ive lost interest in Evolve, had the first 5 shows on dvd and likewise the DGUSA shows. I really enjoyed Evolve but having to wait a few months for the next show is poor especially considering the turnaround SMV and even ROH have.

WWN really need to get their act together

  10. Just watched Manhatten Mayhem 4, the first ROH show Ive watched in one sitting in some time and definately one of the best shows they've put out in a while. (I started watching Defy or Deny a few nights before but got too tired, will get round to watching it one day)

The first three matches are decent enough, although Ciampa/Redwood went too long and didnt do Ciampa any favours. I like Bennett, I think he could be a very good heel in ROH.

Briscoes/ANX is great fun, perfectly booked double turn, and as a huge Titus fan, Im one will be glad to see more ANX in the tag title picture. I think its been a few years since we've seen the Briscoes really heel it up and hopefully will freshen them up a bit. This fued has the potential to be as good as Briscoes/Steenerico from 2007.

El Generico and TJP was short and entertaining which will do for me as this was a pretty insignificant match-up, but enjoyable never the less.

LAX/KOW was great, especially as I didnt have much expectation going in. Hernandez impressed and I loved his little duel with Claudio, and the lauching of Homicide onto the Kings was spectacular. Crowd was really into this, which made the match even more exciting.

Richards/Daniels was excellent, having the Pure rules definately help give the match an extra edge and I enjoyed this more than their match from last year. The botched SSP was a fail of epic proportions (there's missing and there's missing so badly that you hit the ropes!) but thankfully doesnt take away from the quality of the match.

Strong/Edwards was fantastic and is my MOTY in ROH so far. I loved this and the crowd was into it too. The closest you could get to Joe/Aries from 2004 in terms of crowd reaction and definately the best executed title switch in ROH in a very long time. The match itself is brutal, typical Strong bout and Edwards does a cracking job and doesnt look out of place in the ROH main events.

Definately the best show ROH have put out in 2011. The 9th anniversary show beats it for match quality but MM4 is so much more enjoyable mainly due to the two tag matches and the main event. Im actually looking fowards to watching the Atlanta shows, something I havent felt towards ROH shows in a while, Im excited to see Edwards as champ, as much as i like Strong his title run was a bit lacklustre. I also cant wait to see where the Briscoes/ANX fued goes either.

  11. SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read

Jimmy Jacobs is set to return to ROH as Steve Corino's sponser tonight, according to 411.

thats actually pretty cool, think this could be great, plus Ive really missed him not being in ROH

  12. Not sure if anyone picked up on this, but on one of his Twitter posts Silkin mentioned there were plans in motion for a return to the UK "soon"

Cracking news if it comes to pass. Wonder who wil be helping with the organisation and promotion at this end?

Great news but wont believe it until I see it. Wonder if DVD sales have gone up, as it was always stated that low sales to UK was one of the reasons for not coming back over.

  13. Am I right in thinking tomorrows show will start at 6pm UK time?

Yeah, it was moved early to 1pm because it clashed with another event (UFC or WWE HOF or both?)

Itll be a nice change to watch a Live US show at a sensible hour.
