  1. Netflix don't have series two. Damn. Do I dare delve back into the world of Heroes? I gave up after season two because it was fucking wretched and I've heard it just gets worse from here. Admittedly, I'm curious to see just how bad it could possibly get.

People at the time all said "season 2 is really shit" which to be honest shocked and confused me greatly, because season 1 of Heroes was so unbelievably fucking bad that I couldn't imagine how a show could get any worse. I'm glad though that the show seems to have been completely forgotten by the masses since then.

I think I got caught up in the hype the first time around, and watched it religiously - even got annoyed at some comicbook store twat who acted like I was mental for not just downloading it and watching it all in one go. I think, rationed out, I could buy into it, but season 2 killed me off in 2-3 episodes. And then, watching season 1 on Netflix, I just couldn't stand it. Ali Larter is the worst, the absolute worst. Incredibly unlikeable.

  2. The ex was well in to her period dramas,

I think most women are like that though.

I don't think this got enough respect. Respect, Richie.

I watched A Summer Place last night - the thing that really, really stood out for me is the ripeness of the acting. Troy Donahue stinks, Sandra Dee stinks, most of the parents stink... in the midst of all of this smelliness, Arthur Kennedy just tears the film to pieces and rebuilds it in his memory, blowing everyone else off of the screen. It's almost sad to see him crush all of the shitty thespians he's cast alongside.

  3. Carry On Emannuelle

They all seem sad, and lost, and old. Even worse to see Beryl Reid dragged into that spiral. The cinema in the UK changed so much between even 1973 and 1978, and it's sad to think that they were playing catch up with the fucking Confessions movies, and even worse, Come Play with Me. Mean spirited exploitations of comedy talents, rather than actually using them to full advantage. It was a short, shitty road from there to The Playbirds, and Confessions from the David Galaxy Affair.

  4. RotLD is a movie I can have on any time, any place - it seems to be on TV once a week, and I think I watch at least part of it every month or so. It's just so fun - I don't know how Dan O'Bannon was so brilliant, actually. His illness must have really taken its toll, for him to have no really followed up this, and his work on Total Recall.

  5. IMDB definitely should not be taken as gospel. If it were, Johnny Depp would have been considered for every male lead for the last decade.

He was. He was going to play Bond, actually, with a lispy shit little accent, and a felt suit. The Willy Wonka movie is 25% outtakes from the Depp Casino Royale, 25% new footage, and 50% just following Deep Roy around.

  6. You thought the 3rd series of Arrested Development was bad? huh.

Bads not quite right word. I thought the Charlize Theron storyline was the worst they've done. Still funny and still a better storyline than many other sitcoms could hope to have but just felt a bit one note and over the top for AD. It went on too long too.

Fuck that, the Mr. F storyline is brilliant. And the ending of it is actually suprisingly sweet for an Arrested Development storyline.

The "On the Next Arrested Development" for that episode is perfection.

EDIT - Ha. Just looked up at my xBox home page, and there is a video ad for Hulu Plus playing. At the moment I looked at it, it was showing George, Lucille, and Lindsey doing chicken dances to represent Michael and women.

  7. La Cabina

A tight and very effective Twilight Zone-style short film about a man stuck in a phone booth before amused spectators. It's definitely one that stays with you. It's well-directed and there's some nifty symbolism in it, too - the main bit of which relating to Franco-era Spain. I won't spoil it, check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFeERCVkAPg

Gladstone was talking about this the other week - it's a blinder, a really wonderful counterpart to most of the lurid shit that came out of Espana in the sleazy seventies.

  8.

The youtube vid suggests this is from a mitape.. This mixtape would make good gym music, I think. Must find.

    Boubacar Traore - Kongo Magni

Fantastic blues guitarist from Mali. This whole album is great.

    That's just wonderful, Chest.

The Hood Internet are up to about Mixtape Six by now, although I need to go back for the last few. They are generally able to salvage even the worst crap.
