  1. Theres a lot of people hyping up the 'A Field in England' showing on Film4 today

I won't be bloody watching it.

I have it recording tonight, just saw a few clips of it and now i'm really not looking forward to it.

I'd recommend giving Sightseers a go, it's not really a Ben Wheatley creation. It's the stars Alice Lowe and Steve Oram's baby. They'd previously done the characters in a short film and wrote the screenplay before Wheatley got involved.

EDIT - Also, Ben Wheatley is the pox! And they have some sort of Film 4 week dedicated to him. Sightseers is dreadful and I don't know how it's so critically revered...

In what way was it dreadful? what were you expecting it to be?

Take Shelter is great, i got the family to watch it at christmas.......didn't go well.

  2. Caught on some Tarantino recently:-* Kill Bill 1 - great fun for the most part. Lucy Liu is a terrible, terrible actress, though.* Kill Bill 2 - bored the crap out of me except the bits with Michael Madsen who was actually not shit for once.* Inglorious Basterds - bloody fantastic entertainment except for Eli Roth who is fucking crap and a knob. Melanie Laurent and Christoph Waltz are ace. Loved this film.

Everything about this post is the truth except Lucy Lui being shit, i thought she fit the role perfectly. My biggest problems with Inglorious Basterds is the Basterds themselves.
  3. Park Chan-Wook is hugely overrated, I think. Aside from Oldboy, which is overrated itself, I've thought all his films were nothing more than alright. JSA was a disappointment in particular.

I'm not a huge fan of Lady Vengeance and i haven't seen I'm a Cyborg,Thirst or Stoker but thought JSA was pretty great.

House Also enjoyed Where Is the Friends Home?

I'll be honest and say i hated both.

House seems to be a film you need to be high to enjoy and Where Is the Friends House? nearly put me to sleep. That was a long while ago though, my tastes have changed alot over the years and I doubt i'd have liked The Return as much in 2004 but i'm generally not a fan of Iranian films.

    Timecrimes

It was alright but just came together too neatly at the end for me.

Atmen (Breathing) and A Town Called Panic was absolutely fantastic.

I've had Breathing on my amazon list for awhile now but tried to watch A Town Called Panic on Film4 a year or so ago and only lasted 15 minutes, irritated the bloody hell out of me.

Trailer for Sion Sono's next bonkers film

  4. Where's the proper foreign films? You know, ones that have a tap dripping for half an hour then some hairy french vaginas? Basically anything shown at midnight on Channel 4 in the mid 90s.

    Try

The Isle (2001) SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read

    Fish hooks meet vagina's

The Isle isn't for the squeamish, some real (VERY) nasty things happen to fish and also a few people get hurt

    Korea Day

    Memories Of Murder (2003)

    Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002)

The Good The Bad The Weird (2008)

    Lady Vengeance (2005)

Edit: With the tension in North/South Korea over the last few weeks everyone should watch J.S.A. Joint Security Area

  5. I'll chuck a couple of recommendations in

Youth of The Beast Yakuza! Super cool Joe Shishido! Violence! Beautifully Stylish! with a fantastic ending.

Blind Beast: A sleazy very japanese tale of a blind man who with the help of his mother kidnaps a girl and takes her back to his layer.....best not to know too much more. Twisted and odd

Cure So far the best film i've seen from "horror maestro" Kiyoshi Kurosawa, one of a kind serial killer flick

Mad Detective If you want a hong kong cop thriller with an edge try this you won't be disappointed

  6. By the way, did anyone ever know how many recent Korean films there are on YouTube?

There's alot of asian cinema on Dailymotion as well, which i hope to get around to watching at some point. A lot of the asian streaming sites post on DM. Just searching "kmovie" "jmovie" will bring up some gems.

As far as youtube, i currently have 133 foreign language films saved for rainy days.

Also The Korean Film Archive have their own channel absolutely free with subtitles and with some uber-rare stuff Link

Forgot about the letterboxd 30 films/30days thing, probably wouldn't have stuck to it anyway.

  7. Anybody been enjoying Hannibal? Well they've pulled the 4th episode.

    Link

Small spoiler for episode 4 in the article, deleted in the below.

The show's creator Bryan Fuller told Variety that he asked NBC not to air the fourth instalment

Fuller explained that "given the cultural climate in the US" following Monday's attack and the recent Sandy Hook school shooting, it wouldn't be appropriate to air such an episode.

"I didn't want to have anyone come to the show and have a negative experience," Fuller explained. "Whenever you [write] a story and look at the sensational aspects of storytelling, you think, 'This is interesting metaphorically, and this is interesting as social commentary'."

He continued: "With this episode, it wasn't about the graphic imagery or violence. It was the associations that came with the subject matter that I felt would inhibit the enjoyment of the overall episode... It was my own sensitivity."

Clips from Hannibal's fourth episode will be available online in the US, and the episode will air in full in other territories.

NBC also insisted that Hannibal's continuity will not be affected by its decision to cut an episode.

Hannibal will jump ahead in schedule by next airing episode five, with its finale now scheduled for June 20.

Not sure how it can't affect continuity.

Has it start airing here yet? and how many episodes have aired?

  8. Plus it's going to make Punk, Jericho or anyone of similar size look like little kiddy jobbers (if this thing is still in use when Rock leaves)

To be fair, if Rule One's thread was anything to go by, they probably have this belt in several different sizes to look proportionate to the wrestlers holding them.

You mean this is the big boys belt and there's a toddler one for the little dudes?

A really close up look of it

Cheers for pointing me to Rule Ones thread, very nice.

    The new belt.

Never thought i'd say this but i think i prefer the spinny Toys R' Us One. Thats hideous.

How so if you don't mind me asking? I think it's a huge improvement. It looks current and reflects where the company is at right now, whilst maintaining an air of prestige to it that the spinner belt failed to do in my opinion. The more I look at it the more I like it.

First off the spinny is also awful.

It's overly bulky, the lack of any detail around the W looks cheap, the diamonds and ruby's look very tacky, the champion bit makes me think of a lower card belt and overall it just looks like a little indy title made huge to make it seem more important. Plus it's going to make Punk, Jericho or anyone of similar size look like little kiddy jobbers (if this thing is still in use when Rock leaves)

AND when it's bent like this....

    izc8l3.jpg

it looks like a giant super bowl ring. all super bowl rings are just nasty.
