  1. The Wrestler.

The director of this movie is obviously a big fan of wrestling. There are so many references in there so that if you've known about wrestling your whole life (like me) you can sit there thinking.... "This guy's got it spot on", but this isn't just a wrestling movie, it's a movie about a guy going through a hard time and desperately seeking some acceptance.

The psycology of the film is just awesome.

Sure, it gives out a ton of 'our' secrets, but it never makes wrestling look silly, instead it shows it in a light that I don't think anyone has shown before (though beyond the mat obviously touched on it) and it may make people understand not only what some people get out of wrestling but also what some people go through in order to entertain. There are the obvious references in there that you've heard about a million times, but also look deeper in there and you'll see a million more waiting to be picked out.

A must watch for any fan, and a must watch for anyone interested in the human condition.

Well deserving of all the praise it's got.

    Great film.

  2. I have to agree with Chest and Mortimer.

Sideways is a really good little movie, I don't know if it's a movie you're going to enjoy if you're under 20 unless you've had a lot of life experiences as it seems to be aimed at the older filmgoer, the two friends are polar opposites but doing their best to get on with each other and it creates a few really silly things and a few really poignant ones, you realise these two are two lonely guys looking to get something out of life but they don't know what.

    I really enjoyed it.

  3. Khan takes a battering.

Has a mildly succesful return bout.

And goes to take another battering.

Sorry whoever is steering his career is a fucking idiot. He needs 2 or 3 'easy' wins to get him back on track before even thinking of people like Barerra.

  4. Voted for "I'm sorry, I love you"

That moment sent so many thoughts through my head, hoping Shawn would miss and Flair would win, hoping he's connect and Flair would kick out, wishing Flair was 20 years younger and at his prime.

But I also knew at that point and even though Flair was still able, it was time for him to hang up the gowns.

  5. 30 days of night

    I quite like Vampire films.

This one I didn't get more than 40 mins into.

First of all the DVD 'spoils' any kind of surprise when during the 'loading' to the menu you get shown all the 'monsters' that the film attempts to build up for the first 20 minutes of the movie. I mean how insane is that? It's like the Empire Strikes Back menu sound being vader repeating "Luke I am your father" over and over.

Then when the vamps do show up they turn off all the lights.

This is something that really annoys me with films. If you are something that lives in the dark and wish to surprise/kill something that lives in the light the last thing you want to do is turn off all the artificial lights because, simply, eyes will get used to the dark and after a while will see better than they would if moving from a light environment into a dark environment making your job of killing them harder.

Anyway, I managed to get through a few monster attacks before switching it off, putting it back in it's envelope and sending it back to lovefilm.

    I just couldn't stomach it.

  6. I understand what you're saying, however I wasn't a huge comic book reader and although I did see some Hulk comics I didn't remember him jumping 500 miles in a single bound, I remembered him more for short quick paced hops rather than big jumps. And nothing apparent about it, I hated the big jumps!

I've never really been a comic reader but one of my best mates in school was so I borrowed and was given loads by him in some attempt to convert me, I think. I never did read all of them and gave all the ones I had left to a mate a few years ago.

    Anyway...

    Leaping/Jumping Ability

The Hulks's leg muscles are augmented so much that the Hulk can travel miles in a single casual jump. Jumping is the standard mode of transportation for the less intelligent incarnations of the Hulk. The Hulk has been known to make it into the earth's atmosphere on a single leap. Given the strength of the leap and the angle of trajectory when landing, the Hulk can create large craters and limited seismic activity when landing.

    Fair enough.

It just didn't look right to me, you can add that to a 'general' dislike about the hulk rather than just picking on the film then... He doesn't do that at all in the 2nd film.

  7. The first did, however, have Hulk dogs. The OTT villain was pretty bad but the dogs were inexcusable. I'd have enjoyed the film much more if it hadn't been for them. The best thing about Ang Lee's one, for me, was that it felt like a comic book that had been brought to life. The super jumping, that Stevie apparently hates, was very prevalent in the Hulk comics I read when I was a kid so, for me, that whole action sequence with him jumping through the mountains and taking down the helicopters was bad ass, it was the Hulk I remembered from when I was growing up put on the big screen. Sure, I also grew up watching (and loved) the Lou Ferigno Hulk series but surely anyone can see that was a diluted version of the comic character which had been spliced with The Littlest Hobo?

  8. The Incredible Hulk

I hated the first newgen 'Hulk' film there was so much about it I didn't like from the super OTT villian to Hulk changing size every few seconds to his super jumping and lack of dramatic storyline. I still love my superhero movies so I gave this one a go as well but it would be fair to say I was expecting to hate it.

    I loved it.

Okay Hulk is still horribly CGI'd in places but he's a lot more 'realisitc' now and looks dented. burnt and hurt instead of supergreen all the time, the storyline is better as is the build up of the bad guys, the set pieces are a lot better too. And he doesn't do 'silly' jumping more the fast paced bounding that is how he's supposed to travel.

Okay I'm from the 'old school' Lou Farigno TV Series Hulk and some of the 80's comic books rather than superhulk that has been around recently. But a bit of realism never goes amis.

Sure it's still a 'popcorn' movie and some things are superdaft, for example the revalation that if you don't have a pass or key then Pizza works just as well. But if you can overlook these things then underneath is a decent little superhero movie just as good as anything else that's been out in the last few years.

Definately worth a look if you like the Hulk even if you hated the first movie.

  9. The Spirit

There's two hours of my life I'll never get back.

No character development, the storyline is very poor, acting terrible.

Really really dissapointing, one moment it's style is Sin City, next it's 300, next it's 80's animation done badly.

    Very very poor.

Oh but it has Eva Mendes in a series of skimpy outfits and one glorious shot of her naked rear.

    Still doesn't quite save it.

Good cast, but a dreadfully put together movie.

  10. As far as I can tell, you're slating it for not being ECW, and that's hardly fair. Why not judge it on the content, rather than on some rose-tinted nostalgia?

I wasn't a huge ECW fan, so it's hardly rose tinted nostalgia.

It's my vote and all I can remember from it is really not enjoying it at all, perhaps if I watched it again I would change my mind but from what I remember I hated it.

  11. ECW One Night Stand 2008

    Fucking travesty.

Wow, that was my pick for BEST card of the year. What was so bad that you chose it to be worse than any other show this year?

I think to me there was nothing about it that was anything like ECW. The first one night stand was very good as there was still an ECW feel to things, the ONS 2008 made me cringe all the way through as to be honest, it should have been called WWE One Night Stand.

I just remember disliking the whole thing as it felt like a blatant 'fuck you' to everyone who'd ever liked ECW weather you were a WWE fan or not. I'm not an ECW elitist in any way shape or form, but that show really left a bad taste in my mouth.

  12. Would THE Brian Kendrick count?

I think we definatley need some kind of clarification.

Seems like Bourne would run away with a vote and I'm not even sure he qualifies since he's been around since 2004. If it's "debut" or "re-debut" fair enough but a 4 year veteran isn't a newcomer...

  13. Does Bourne Qualify?

Matthew Joseph Korklan (born March 19, 1983)[4] is an American professional wrestler best known as Matt Sydal. He is currently signed to the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) wrestling on its ECW brand under the ring name Evan Bourne. He is currently inactive due to a dislocated ankle and a torn deltoid ligament.

Before signing with WWE, Korklan wrestled for many independent promotions such as Independent Wrestling Association Mid-South, Ring of Honor and the Japanese promotion Dragon Gate under the ring name Matt Sydal. He also had a tenure in the short-lived Wrestling Society X promotion and was featured on Total Nonstop Action Wrestling's early pay-per-view (PPV) events.

According to these rules his debut was at Victory Road for TNA in 2004.

Ziggler was also in Spirit Squad.

    I'm going for:

    Ted DiBiase Jnr

    Kofi Kingston

  14. Captivity

First movie that LoveFilm decided to send me off my rather large 'I might want to see it one day' list.

This pretty much got a slating from people, the lead character inspired NO sympathy from me at all, I mean apart from being in a horrible situation I didn't think she was a decent member of the community to start with so hey, also the whole opening bit was a bit strange too, meeting who?

The 'psycological' terror had some nasty parts (nice shake) but it really didn't push it too far when it could have. Twist was blatant from the moment 'it' appeared.

At the end all I could think was "what on earth happened to Tenacious D...." but hey, honestly it wasn't as awful as I was expecting it to be.

    Forgottten Kingdom

I really enjoyed this. It left me with a huge smile on my face, If I had to describe it in 3 words they would be "Disney Kung-Fu Movie" don't expect anything clever, just watch as a movie thats there to entertain and I think it does it's job admirably.

The fight scenes are pretty good as well, apart from the Westener who's hilariously shit, but then he's supposed to be I suppose. Good stuff.

  15. Looking very good there MAT.

I really want a baby i just need to find a girl who wants one aswell.

Who would want a kid with someone who takes drugs?

    Mark Croft

    At least name a female.

    Courtney Love

  16. And all that for some random Ice Hockey guy who doesn't give a shit? Epic.

No, all of that for her baby Dyllan who I'm sure is worth the effort.

Anyway, not sure cesarians are the best things, obviously having Sam naturally would've been risky with his size but now Lara isn't allowed to pick up/carry anything for the next six weeks so it's pretty rough.

  17. A few of you on here would've met Lara.

So just to announce her Baby Sam arrived this morning just a shade under 10lbs.

    Poor girl, hope shes ok.

Had a brief chat over text with her, she's in pain (ended up having a cesarian) but also overjoyed.

Want my manflu to be gone by Christmas day so I can give them their pressies!
