  1. I like the sound of a new V series, loved the original in the 80s.

Loved the original series, the 2nd series just went all odd though.

If they do remake it I hope they come up with some decent people to be in it rather than just 90210 it up.

Edit: SoA is pretty good, the Editing is a bit odd but the people in it are pretty excellent. Ron Pearlman is Gold as usual.

  2. Metacritic Reviews

    Variety magazine - 70

Darker, grimmer and more stylistically single-minded than its two relatively giddy predecessors, Terminator Salvation boasts the kind of singular vision that distinguished the James Cameron original, the full-throttle kinetics of "Speed" and an old-fashioned regard for human (and humanoid) heroics.

    Hollywood Reporter - 50

In Arnold's absence, an important ingredient of the "Terminator" iconography -- namely, the fun factor -- is in short supply.

    New York Magazine - 40

With McG's migraine-inducing jerky-cam and monochromatic palette (livened only by splotches of rust), Terminator Salvation puts the numb in numskull.

Mmmm, want to see more than 3 reviews but ouch....

  3. Anyone been watching 'Sons of Anarchy'? Just started on Bravo (episode 2 is this Tuesday on Bravo) and I downloaded the Pilot from iTunes.

Seems like a good idea for a show, I wonder how much flack they are taking over the subject matter, some pretty shocking stuff in the pilot even if it is a bit messy.

    Thorughly enjoyed it.

  4. Saw Star Trek yesterday, and I think it's fucking brilliant. Great acting, great action, great effects, even the plot wasn't too bad either, though a little formulaic. I can safely say this is a movie I will definitely watch again, and try to get on Blu-Ray when it's available.

That said, I am a bit of a hardcore Trekker, so I do prefer the original story universe - mainly because there's so much more of it, and it's had more time to be developed. Plus, I've pretty much grown up with it. Additionally, as awesome as this new movie is, I'm not entirely happy with

Vulcan and Romulus getting destroyed. They're both significant parts of the Star Trek universe. But I will wait and see if Abrams comes up with a second movie to further this storyline.

You have to remember Romulous was 'in the future' so it's not set to happen for a long time. Vulcan was a huge shock though!

Vulcans as an Endangered Species? 2 Spocks in the same universe? Sounds like fun.

Added some discussion to your spoiler. Really don't look if you haven't seen it yet!

  5. Star Trek

Never has the term 'reboot' been so true of a movie. This really does seem to be a complete re-starting of the whole franchise. An example of 'wiping the slate clean'.

Story wise, it's standard trek fare, there's an evil power threatening the universe (and doing some real destruction this time too!) there's some jaw dropping battle scenes, plenty of bravery with sprinklings of stupidity and some jokes in for the ride. But really, I don't feel this movie is about the story, it's more about the characters and re-introducing them.

And all of them do well. Today watching Justin Lee Collins "Bring Back Star Trek" I thought I was looking at Zachary Quinto's Spock when it was actually Leonnard Nemoy... Odd but in most places that's how well it's been cast. Original Series Kirk looks like New movie Kirk. Same could not be said for Uhura but close enough. It's cast really well with the odd exception.

One of those is Simon Pegg, he just didn't quite fit for me as Scotty, he had some funny moments yes but... Well it didn't quite work.

I enjoyed it, while some of it stretches a bit too far it fits quite nicely within the Star Trek universe, but I can see it really annoying fans of the later shows because of the huge 'surprises' in it. I really don't want to give anything away but there are some really good surprises in there too.

Definately a must see if you like your Sci Fi and enjoy Star Trek, it's even good enough for those who've never seen Star Trek. If you're a HUGE Trekker nerd then see it but be ready for a few 'NOOOOO' moments.

  6. Terminator - Sarah Connor Chronicals.

Just started watching season one, I'm pretty much hooked, it's pretty well done and doesn't piss all over the films, there's a few things in there that are annoying, for example one moment Sarah is going mental whenever John leaves the house, next she's not worried when he scoots off to find a medic with no explanation...

Small things aside it's pretty decent and worth a go if you like that world.

  7. Edwin Valero, just saw his fight from Saturday night on De La Hoya's latest card. What a fucking animal! 25 wins, 25 KO's. The commentators were saying there was uncertainty that the guy was for real and Pitalua was his first real test. 2nd round destruction.

Impressive.... Love the thing he does with his mouth, kinda growls while kicking your arse...

  8. Watched Twilight earlier, not expecting much and didnt get much for the first 45 mins, second half of the film was pretty awesome though and the sequel should be even better. I havent read the books but are they worth checking out?

They've cancelled/put on hold the Near Dark remake because "twilight" was 'too close' to the vision they had for it.

So if nothing else this Vampire90210 movie has done something good.

  9. I'm more likely to read and respond to something with a bit of substance that has some thought and strong opinion in it. People seem to read my "massive" reviews, and enough people respond to Seven's to suggest that it's worth taking the time. The Watchmen post-release discussion thread also has several lengthy reviews, some of which have been broken down into paragraphs and discussed by other posters. If a long post is well written, interesting, engaging or sufficiently entertaining or funny then people will read it.

    You write reviews?

Watched Cloverfield last night for the 2nd time. I must say I still think it's fine as a pure action movie that requires you not to think so much, but there's not really enough substance to it to make the movie compelling for a 3rd or 4th view. I even bothered to look up a few bits on the net about the movie and some of the backstory (and the Manga thing) kinda ruin a lot of it so don't bother with that.

I think the monster is built really well before being revealled and then a little dissapointing. It's actions certainly fit the 'stroppy child' image that has been built up for it (so when's mom coming then?) since the movie came out. I hate the cameraman. I really do, most of his one liners are shite and he overacts too much, don't mind the rest of the cast though I think they do a decent job.

Great popcorn movie, but don't watch if you're in the mood for something deep.

  10. Platoon (In *stunning* HD)

I haven't seen this film for about 5 or 6 years or so. Watched it last night on my new shiny Sky+HD and was transfixed. Amazing story, really good characters all the way through, however Sky Upscale stuff to HD they are doing a fantastic job you could see all the pits/marks on the faces of the men.

Couple of things I noticed were some subtle edits to 'tone down' some of the more violent scenes (come on, it was 2am!) and noticed some of the cinematography in the film itself were lacking (don't like the 'cut to blank forest/explosion/cut back to crew reacting to said explosion) saying that the film is an incredible piece of work that still really holds up today, the village part is sickening and really emotional, and Elias is one of the most bad ass characters in movie history.

Throughly recommended. But see if there's a Blu Ray available for your PS3's!

  11. First time i have really had a look through this thread. I should have posted in it ages ago. My baby girl Nico was born on 6th December....13 WEEKS premature. She's 9 weeks old now and doing great. She's not had an easy ride bless her,but were hoping to have her home very soon.

Aw, not good Draven but glad she's come through it! Hopefully the bad spell is behind you.

Lara introduced Sam to her dog Benjy properly for the first time the other day.

Koo unlike Dyllan he wasn't a fan of the bath, but Lara got him a Tummytub (google it) and he really loves it.

  13. At the weekend picked up the following:

Command and Conquer the first Decade

The first Command and Conquer game looks so dated now. And unfortunatley almost unplayable due to my machine being too fast so that when I scroll the screen I'm shot from one side of the map to the other even at lowest scroll speed. :(

Skipped to Red Alert and it's just as fun as I remember. Looking forward to a bit more play of this and it's only

  14. Schindler's List

Don't know why I haven't watched it before.

This film starts straight off with one mad scene after another though at a fairly slow pace, Schindler comes in and is a completly OTT party guy, as he says later "I'm about the presentation" he pretty much greases his way into the German aristocracy while using Jewish money to get his factory off and running, when Amon makes his entrance it goes from the surreal to the horrific and no punches are pulled in showing it. Watching Schindler go from a scheming businessman out for parties and making money to someone who actually gives a damn about the people working for him is quite, well words fail me but just how far do you have to be pushed before you realise something is wrong?

Amon obviously has no limits, the balcony scene for example, Schindler has his but to a point he's just using cheap labor and not really caring about those around him, but he eventually lears the error of his ways, he has Stern sitting on his shoulder as his guide and neither actually being able to 100% know what the other is thinking/doing until the end for fear of saying/doing something that would get them killed so their relationship is an uneasy one.

Observing the behavior of the german troops is horrifying, some of them just don't give a shit and happily blast away while others are happy to scavange dead bodies of rings, teeth or anything to fund the war effort. The Jewish in part just accepting what is happening to them and living in utter misery doing what they can to survive never knowing if they'll see tomorrow, it's pretty heartbreaking.

Hard to watch yet essential viewing for everyone, had me in tears more than once and in stunned silence more than I can count. Compelling movie. At 3 hours long it doesn't really slow down mutch at all, halfway through you get a bit of background as Schindlers wife shows up, at one point he gets thrown in prison, he teaches Amon to be 'forgiving' for a very short timeframe, so much happens that when you get to the end it doesn't feel like a 3 hour movie.

  15. Apart from being McGregors follower, what's he famous for?

    Time - 12 seconds.

    Personal life

Boorman is the son of costume designer Christel Kruse and film director John Boorman.[1] He is married to Olivia with whom he has two daughters, Doone and Kinvara.

    Acting career

Thanks to his father he got an early start in the film business as a child actor, first appearing in Deliverance (1972) and then returning to cinema as a young Mordred in Excalibur (1981), and The Emerald Forest (1985) also directed by his father. More recent films include The Serpent's Kiss (1997) on which he met his best friend Ewan McGregor, and The Bunker (2001). He has recently taken time off from movie work for various motorcycling adventures.

  16. I'm currently reading "Angels of Death - Inside the Bikers crime empire" by William Marsden and Julian Sher

Interesting book looking at the Hells Angels, I recommend it, strangely there was a program covering the 'main case' outlined in the book on TV tonight that I haven't seen and it was really interesting to see that while in the middle of the book (I have read it before but it's a good book)

Also got "By Any Means" By Charlie Boorman, pretty much the 'follow up' to the TV Show "Long way Down" and so far, it's fun but I just get the feeling that Boorman is so full of himself there's no room for anyone else.

Just finished - "A Lions Tale" by Chris Jericho.

    Utterly fantastic and recommended.
