  1. anyone here a fan of this new trend of emotional hardcore stuff coming out. I know that represents a lot of bands but there seems to be this new movement of 'real emo-hardcore'...proper honest, non trend following shit like Touche Amore, Defeater, La Dispute and so on. They are getting 5* reviews across the board but i just think its all fucking terrible. I hate the vocalists in these bands, instead of actually singing actual melodies or just being flat out aggressive its like they just have an emotional moany rant over the music, at times it almost sounds like people sound when they argue whilst crying. I fucking hate it, i think it comes across so false yet critics and no doubt the hardcore 'scenesters' are jizzing all over it.

I fucking hate the hardcore scene, i love some of the music but i hate the crowd. I went to a h2o gig a few weeks back and there were so many posers there it was unreal. The movement kinda prides itself on freedom of speech and individuality but 90% of the people in there was just another clone, from the dance moves all the way down to his newly purchased flat cap (i blame the gaslight anthem). Cunts, the lot of em.

...and dont get me started on the women in that scene.

There should be nothing emotional about hardcore. Full stop. Tiuche Amore are absolutely awful.

Can't say I've noticed the scene getting posery though, although it's mainly been local undergound hardcore I've been seeing recently.

the scene is full of posery. It's the snobbiest music scene there is.

The Emo, Metal, Hardcore, Rock, Glam, Punk crowds have been snobs since the day it started, it's what the whole scene is about.

  2. The problem here is the buildings were built in the 60s to the withstand the impact of a Boeing airliner colliding into them, 9/11 is the first case of a building being destroyed by a plane hitting it with the steel girders melting instead part of the structure still standing.

    Wait....

So they planned for Airliners that hadn't been conceived when they started construction on the towers.

That's really clever. Also no one had flown a fully laden plane as large as a 767 into a building before. I'm sure if they had there would be more cases of building collapsing due to this...

  3. Why? Was she rancid or was it an ex who you didnt want to speak to or what?

Was an ex. A real messy 'relationship' which consisted of me and her meeting up over a weekend, and then her ignoring me for months until she wanted attention, yes I was a sap.... She wanted a passport off me, I eventually caught her and her boyfriend, an Aussie guy, enjoying each others company in a cafe I was passing in soho. Me being part emo at the time I ended up committing myself to drinking myself into a stupor most evenings, eventually got over her and started enjoying life again, and then she turned up new years eve and we ignored each other all night but somehow ended up going home together and having a messy evening. Honestly didn't remember when I woke up that it had happened and then turned over to see her, all the shit memories came flooding back.

I've not seen her since so I think I may have driven her completely insane.

  4. It so nice to come on here and read so much sense after reading Facebook at the weekend.

There are still so many people who think Loose Change is the gospel and will shout and scream you down when it comes to 9/11, pretty much everything in there has been debunked or even taken out by the creators. Its always good to question things but they go too far. plus that Avery bloke is a prize knob, still it made them a fortune I guess that's all that matters.

I always suggest to anyone who thinks Loose Change is so great to read this: Loose Change Guide

Though the guy is a little overzealous sometimes, he makes good points all over the place generally well backed up.

  5. Ebb.

    Get your ears around this:

Was one of those 'fusion' metal/dance bands, who 'almost' made it in the mid to late 90's, their live shows were absolutely blistering (there's a show on youtube as well) and they were all stand up guys, but their career highlight was an appearance on a Metal Hammer front cover CD.

They had something, it needed developing sadly it wasn't picked up on, they didn't get signed and they faded away.

    Couple more songs of theirs:

That's probably the only 4 tracks you'll hear by them these days. Their demo tapes/CD's are pretty hard to come by. But they are still fondly remembered by a lot of the London scene.

  6. no fucking way!

Life of Agony are one of my favourite bands and Soul Searching Sun is one of my favourite albums (not the purists LOA choice but still). Caputo's always struck me as a little fruity but he's a great f'n vocalist. This has shocked me, what the fuck!?!?

As I stated a few pages back, Pantera and Life of Agony are, by far, my two favourite bands.

I've been following Keith on Twitter for a while, he's been cross dressing for a long time, but recently (early this year) decided to start talking a lot about being Transgender so it wasn't that much of a shock to me, his latest solo album had this little beaut on it which pretty much sums up how he's been feeling for the past few years:

As far as Life of Agony goes, the band's been on hiatus anyway but have played a few shows recently, Keith will be playing at the Borderline in October, I'm trying to get everyone I know to dress up for the show. Girls in 'prohibition' Gangster suits and guys in Gangster Moll dresses.

Oh and I plan on invading the stage and giving Keith a huge hug.

Don't neglect Broken Valley, even though it's a bit patchy there are still some amazing songs on there.

  7. Okay, apologies in advance if this is a boring topic to all of you who have listened to any new metal albums in the last 5 years but...

I dug out my Pantera albums recently and have been listening through them, and I was curious as to what order in which people rank them. Or do you think they're signficantly different that you would find it too hard to rank them?

    For me it goes -

    1) Great Southern Trendkill

    2) Vulgar Display of Power

    3) Cowboys from Hell

    4) Far Beyond Driven

    5) Reinventing the Steel

I've not gone any earlier than Cowboys, nor included 101 Proof as it's not a studio album but feel free to play by your own criteria..

Pantera (and Life of Agony) are my fave bands of all time....

    1 - Far Beyond Driven

There aren't many albums that I can sing in their entirety (even if it does kill my throat) it's just full of so much self reflecting anger and hatred at the outside world. For pure emotion I don't think many bands have matched this album. At least for me anyway.

    2 - VDOP

I do love this, but there are a few songs I'd happily skip on it, 'This Love' and 'Hollow' are probably my faves on this. Most people don't identify with that for some reason. Oh and Love Walk, but it got so overplayed.

    3 - GSTK

There are a couple of stand out songs on this album, 'Floods', the whole 'Suicide Note' and '13 steps' do it for me, but there are too many tracks that feel like fillers.

    4 - Cowboys from Hell

Has possibly the two best Pantera songs ever written on it in 'Cemetery Gates' and 'Domination' but some of the album is left over from the more glammy days, while they are utter comedy and fun to listen too, I don't enjoy them enough to raise this any higher.

    5 - Reinventing the Steel

There are songs I like, but it's all a bit one directional for a Pantera album.

The best thing about Pantera is they had all the power they needed, but could also have some 'crooner' moments that fit right in to their albums/songs. There are other bands that do this, but IMHO none have ever done it as well as Pantera.

Metal has been in a dreadful state for the past 5 years or so.

  8. Link to Story

A Japanese horror film has been refused an 18 certificate by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) because of its graphic torture scenes.

According to BBFC director David Cooke, Grotesque presented "little more than an unrelenting and escalating scenario of humiliation, brutality and sadism".

Its "unacceptable content", he added, meant cuts were "not a viable option".

The BBFC rarely refuses to pass films, having denied only three titles seeking an 18 rating over the last four years.

These include violent sex thriller Murder Set Pieces and Terrorists, Killers And Other Wackos, a film comprising real clips of execution and torture.

    'Minimal narrative'

Two pornographic works seeking the restricted R18 rating have also been rejected in the same period.

The distributors of Grotesque had hoped to receive an 18 certificate for the film, which includes scenes involving amputation and eye-gouging.

"The chief pleasure on offer seems to be in the spectacle of sadism (including sexual sadism) for its own sake," said Mr Cooke.

Its "minimal narrative or character development," he continued, set it apart from such other "torture-themed" works as the Saw and Hostel movie series.

The BBFC drew criticism earlier this year for passing Danish horror Antichrist uncut, despite its graphic scenes of sex, violence and mutilation.

That's Grotesque on my list of things to watch then.... These are the people that gave "Visitor Q" A rating for heavens sake...

  9. By teenage crush do you mean that she was a teenager, or you were?

Because if it's the latter that means you had a rock on for her at best when you were 18 and she was 13.... tut tut, Stevie.

I am highly embarrassed by your postings sir.

Must've been an early 20's crush then. Probably accurate as I was still acting like a teenager then.

  10. Yes she is.

But not conventional or commercial how?

I haven't heard anything about her for a good few years now, as far as I'm aware she was only famous for a short period.

Maybe I've just missed a lot more commercial things about her.

The TV chef just reminded me of her for some reason.

Edit: Just to expand on this a bit, she was a bit of a teenage crush for me, so she's probably old and grey now but I still would...

Edit 2: yes old and grey, she's 30 now I believe....

  11.

The Day the Earth Stood Still

Actually 'fairly' enjoyable, amazing Klatuu took small things incredibly seriously and ignored the bg things, plus doing want to spoil it but the 'thing' that makes the save, kinda pathetic. But look past the gaping plot holes and it's fairly enjoyable. Keanu does a decent job being the emotionless Alien (who'd have thunk it?) but I thought Jayden Smith wasn't quite right for the role. It's okay if you can switch off your brain.

  12. Flags of Our Fathers was also quite good, based on the attack of Iwo Jima, and told through flashback, it is predominanlty about the story who raised the flag over Iwo Jima. Initially the narritive is confusing as it jumps from present to past , even further in the past, present and then past again, but is well worth carrying on. Shot with a limited budget, it has an amazing cast including Neal McDonough, playing a another Captain/Lieutenant. The fight scenes arent utterly pivotal to the story as its more about the fall out/PTSD that the survivors had, but its good none the less. Will get round to watching Letters from Iwo Jima at some point as a companion piece.

You need to see Letters From Iwo Jima - it's very good. As I understand it, it's not just a companion piece; it's the other side of the coin. There are parts of FOOF that occur from different angles in LFIJ, as well as a couple of character perspectives.

    Can I second this.

The movie acts as if it's shot by a sympathetic Japanese director which is amazing considering.

Very well shot and a lot more together than flags of our fathers which was good but as you said it was a bit all over the place.

  13. what need does anyone have for 109 room-house?!

The best game of hide and seek in the world?

It's sad but he's spunked away over $200m apparently. I can't really feel that sorry for him I wish I had the chance to do that.

  14.

I randomly caught a "Star Trek: Enterprise" repeat on bravo the other day. Was from season 3. I've only caught a couple of episodes before but I was dragged into it and I now have the "Must watch until season ends" fever from it.

It's bloody brilliant. I'm amazed it didn't catch me up before, I know it only lasted 4 seasons but on the strength of season 3 I think I'll be going out and getting all the DVD's. Maybe after the new Trek movie I'm a bit more open and non-caring about the plot holes or something.

  15.

    Enjoyed Transformers 2.

Did what it said on the tin, expanded the universe a bit.

A couple of things were annoying and I thought bits of it were slightly rushed but it was a fun movie.

I wasn't that fond of the 'gangster' robots. I don't see a point in them to be honest. Have comedy characters

but not ones that could easily be interpreted as Racist.
