Thought the show was PPV quality but by the time it got to the main event the crowd were getting worn out. Time limit draw or not I’d have had Omega vs Danielson go on last and finish with the brawl to promote the tag on Dynamite.

I reckon they were worried about running out of time; Jericho mentioned recently on his podcast that on one PPV every match had gone over their allotted time and they had to cut Mark Henry’s debut short as a result

  2. I'd never seen Suzuki before but the crowd loved him so it came across as a big moment.

Statlander frightens the life out of me in that I can see her badly injuring someone before long.

Fenix is unreal. Insane tag match; I thought Bucks might retain for them to drop it to Punk and Danielson in future.

Why was MJF dressed like Emi Sakuro?

What an ending to the PPV. Wow.

  3. For context I don’t watch WWE weekly tv and only the occasional PPV these days but here are my thoughts.

Thought the stadium setting looked great.

After a weekend where we had a superb and genuine wrestling moment; it was a little jarring to hear “brotastic”, “broriffic” and see cartoon birds. I just envisage the commentary teams walking round backstage like droids bumping into each other and repeating “biggest party of the summer”. Crowd loved the finish to the opener.

Poor Piper Niven being involved with that doll bollocks; dreadful match.

When George Lopez said “WWF” do you reckon Vince silently mouthed “twat” at him.
Loved the shout of “this crowd is loving this match” during Priest-Shaemus as the crowd was shown sitting like church nice. That match seemed to go on a long time.
The guest lady echoed Bret Hart with “the Summerslam” and “first time national champion tickled me” unlike the Peacock ad where Premier League is pronounced in an offensive manner.

What’s going on with Sasha then?

Have to contrast Cole’s handling of the big female return with how the AEW announcers handled Punks return. “Could it be? No it can’t be. It is”. They can’t help themselves and won’t let the moment breathe. If they had the Savage-Liz hug from Mania 7 now it would be “surely they won’t hug. Are they going to hug? They might hug. Oh my god they are. They’re hugging. Look at them hug”. It’s the Janet and John approach to commentary.

The merchandise ad with wrestlers cheerily miming to “I’m feeling good in this” would have been superb if they’d got Brock to do it…in a Rey Mysterio onesie.

Applause to Rhea Ripley for pretending to look at a watch during Charlottes entrance.
Speaking of entrances Edges was superb but the match itself was a plodding affair for me.

The Vegas crowd shit on Goldberg; let that be the last time we see him please.

Enjoyed the main event; had me guessing how it would end and thought the AA off the 2nd rope was the finish. Brock looks insane and he’s copied my lockdown beard.

  4. Holy shit that pop for Hangman. Really fun opener, did they retract the stipulation that if Page and the Dark Order lost they wouldn’t get title shots?

Little JR dig at Xavier Woods re the trombone, he seemed a little narky. I think the dives in the opener pissed him off and you can tell he hated the main event.

Great to see Haku; still looks like he could batter an army squadron singlehanded.

That crowd didn’t like Cody did they?

Felt the main was a little much at times but that’s just me.

  5. What a joyous watch this weeks episode was.
Re Punk and Bryan; what would you do with both of them? I’d stick with having Page winning the belt off Kenny and maybe position Punk as Pages first challenger. I can see Punk either pissing people off or getting pissed off and being done within twelve months. Bryan will be excellent I think. He doesn’t seem like he can fall out with anyone and can have great matches with anyone.

Been rewatching WCW Worldwide in 1993, takes me right back. Forgot the odd period where Rick Rude had to wrestle in plain black tights and do none of his usual mannerisms since they were in Disney.

I remember watching Worldwide and missing the entrance screen graphic of a wrestler I’d never seen before who was suplexing a jobber around. In school on the Monday I was singing the praises of “Crispin Wa”

  7. First observation was about the crowd; big contrast to a Rugby League game I attended last week where there was strict social distancing in place, wearing of masks and then antigen tests handed to fans on the way out. Happy to be corrected but didn’t look like similar measures were in place at Daily’s Place. What’s the Covid situation like in Jacksonville at the moment?

As for the show itself; what an ovation for Hangman.

Those “shuffle the deck” awkward silences kept killing the momentum in the Battle Royal, Paul Wight’s ever more frantic cries of “but where’s Hobbs?” made me laugh.

Fuck me, that throw on Darby Allin, thought Sting looked great.

    Pac is Welsh now apparently.

Inner Circle entrance was great; felt the nightclub bit could have been improved by Tully Blanchard busting out the electric slide across the dance floor. Felt the main event dragged in places.

    Entertaining show overall.

  8. What’s the match you were in attendance for that at the time meant very little yet if it happened today it would be a big deal?

I was at the Manchester Raw in 2008 with the main event of Michaels v Jericho and earlier in the evening there was a nothing squash match between Batista and Cody Rhodes which would be rather more newsworthy today.

Any others you’ve been there for?

  9. Sammy and Dax was superb.

Fuck the chair shot to the head. Unacceptable.

Really liked the match although felt it fell apart a bit on Wardlows come back.

Anyone else get bloody fear of heights whenever someone’s on top of the cage? I think back to Taker-Foley and the roof sagging.

    MJF is fantastic.

  10. Seeing daylight and palm trees in the background made me reminisce about playing a driving game in the arcade that I think was called Outrun. You got to pick your own soundtrack which had titles like “cool thunder”. This made me very happy and brought back thoughts of trying to cadge another quid out of my family so I could go on Operation Wolf.

Hogan's win at Mania 9 obviously wasn't done on the fly. The Raw episode that aired the night after was taped 2 weeks prior and at the start Vince was standing infront of the camera talking about Hogan being crowned the new champion. I guess most people in the Manhattan Center found out what was going to happen at Mania 9 in advance too.

Bizarrely Hogan appeared on Going Live with Sarah Greene the Saturday morning the week before Mania and he said he would end the event holding the tag and world titles.

  12. Night two thoughts - did hogan come out and say “ho ho ho” initially? Those boos were outstanding though, well played Tampa.

Should have had Gobbledy Gooker in that box. Live crowd seemed to like all the hocus pocus in the first match. I’m being incredibly generous here but maybe I view The Fiend negatively the same way some people probably thought The Undertaker character was a load of bollocks early in his run with the entrance and “methodical” pacing to his matches.

Heard either Tamina or Nia say “lay it in” I’d be wary saying that to either of them. Match went way too long and had too many spots where someone was clearly stood waiting for someone else. First 50 minutes of the show weren’t good.

Sami’s dancing was me ten pints deep. Owens and Zayn worked hard.

Is Riddles gimmick now that he’s an annoying twat? Those cartoon birds, good Lord. I’m too old for this shit. Credit to Shaemus for pulling out of the top rope White Noise when he slipped; could have really hurt Riddle there. Admittedly he sorted that right out soon after.

    Enjoyed the Nigerian drumming match.

Women’s title match was just too slow for me. Most matches just seem to go on for too long.

Oh the crowd did not want to see The Bellas give that beatdown to Bayley.

Main event time; a main event with true uncertainty of outcome. The network goes today and I won’t miss the jump cuts, I felt bastard seasick. What was the crowds problem with Bryan?

Overall, not a patch on night one for me.

  13. I had a feeling Vince would have been the first person out in front of the crowd. Vince sounded a bit pissed especially when trying to say “tirelessly” and he can’t say WWE for love nor money.

It would have been brilliant if they’d had The Fiend in full Yeti outfit out there with his head bowed for the national anthem.

Would have been handy if Jonathan Agnew had been available on commentary for the rain delay. Rollins promo made me chuckle.

Titus slowly Dad dancing to Real American was incredible.

Lashley put over strong, the distraction just made Drew look like a mug.

Could have done without the ad breaks.

Oh God, that tag turmoil match was dreadful, I reckon the crowd were hoping for another storm.

Cesaro and Rollins made light of the conditions; great match.

When someone as steady footed as AJ slips on the entrance way you know things must be slippery. If there’s more rain tonight there is no chance that Owens is coming off that pirate ship in those conditions, that spot is jinxed. New Day couldn’t have done any more to get Omos over.

Bit scary watching Shane and Strowman on top of the cage.

Top entrance for Bad Bunny. Match was fun too.

Good main event, oh Michael Cole at the key moment.

All in all night one was a fun watch for me.
