Brian Elliot announced it in the penultimate issue delivered to subscribers today. That really sucks. I kinda assumed it had a viable enough niche to keep it going, especially after Powerslam went under and there was no homegrown competition to speak of (sales of the latter were down to about the 7k mark towards the end of its days, from a 20k peak in 2005 or so).Â
Always enjoyed Lister and Alan4L's stuff in particular; Cornette's column also always taught me things I never knew.Â
For those who say it's all online anyhow, sorry but where are you going to find a 6 page article on the history of Silvervision, that concentration of BritWres coverage and bios, as well as a ton of other interesting stuff tailored directly for the UK wrestling fan? I'm tired of all the click bait and top ten countdowns.Â
End of an era after 15 years.Â

Apparently he was a hero in saving people from a house fire on his street earlier in the year and was devastated that there was one 18 year old girl he couldn't save: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/tragic-scots-wrestler-adrian-lionheart-16551857

What do you think Tom Magee meant by "Whether I'm performing in front of a hundred thousand fans or walking down the street with just a few people, the one constant in that it's still my own experience of life"?Â
I do often wonder why people crave fame and fortune so much. I can't think of any megastars that are super happy. Sure, it beats poverty, but has a tendancy to throw one's life way out of balance to the point where normal every day things just don't do it for you any longer (hence why so many celebrities go off the rails). To use a wrestling analogy, it's how so many fans grew tired of a product they once enjoyed during the hotshotting era of the late 90s.Â

Imagine if they'd had the performance centre back then? He looked good, had some unbelievable agility. He could have been money. I bet the Perfect & DiBiase matches were pretty good as well.
I dunno. He had one of the best trainers in the business and a fair amount of time and matches to try and improve. He was good at other things (powerlifting, martial arts etc), but just didn't take to wrestling / pretend fighting for whatever reason. Like many things in life, it comes naturally to some people whilst others really struggle to get the hang of it.Â

Seems the reason there was full production and commentary for the bout was that it was intended to air in the UK on WoS! :Â

Really enjoyed that. Like X-Pac said, you have to think McGee still couldâve been a big star down the line, despite his shortcomings. The look was there for sure and his athleticism was off the charts as well. For how green he was here, even with Bret polishing a turd, he still had bags of raw potential. Heâd surely have only got better with time and Iâm sure he couldâve had more good matches with Bret, DiBiase, Perfect, Rude, Savage etc over the next few years. He might not have caught on like the Ultimate Warrior because Warrior was a cartoon character come to life, but he had the body of the Warrior but with real freaky athletic ability to go with it. He mustâve been having some right rotten matches on the house shows after this Bret match for Vince to go from âHeâs my next championâ to completely losing interest. Shame because he does seem a nice guy as others said.Â
Oh and I love this;
Was Hart vs McGee 2 in 89 (?) filmed, anyone know? I know this 86 match was the one that everyone talked about but I wouldnât mind seeing the second match sometime if the footage exists.Â
It was at a TV taping (in Lacrosse, WI on 16th May 1989) so it probably was filmed, but no footage is out there. According to Bret himself the match wasn't very good anyway:Â https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/8fo8lz/met_bret_hart_today_talked_about_bret_vs_magee_ii/

Who was the doctor that got puked on by Ultimate Warrior in May 1992?
See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbLH8Npfzxs
I recognize Rene Goulet but not any of the others. Somebody suggested the doctor might be Kevin Dunn, but I'm not so sure.

If you want quick and easy access to all the selected matches without trawling through the Network's different menus to view them, yes. Though personally I only ever cherry pick matches from the other discs anyway if they're ones I haven't seen a million times, if I like the wrestler enough to have bought their DVD then I probably *have* seen the matches a million times so....... if the Network has the doc, I wouldn't bother buying the DVD set. YMMV.
Most of the line up for The Randy Savage Story DVD isn't on the network though (it's a fiver on Amazon so thinking it might be worth picking up):

The Randy Savage Story is the documentary which was the main DVD feature. The Dungeon Collection DVD was a "its the matches" release so it's 2 hours of matches interspersed with the brief links of Bret explaining why he picked them.
As a general rule if the DVD was "disc 1 documentary, 2 and/or 3 matches" set then the feature that plays in Beyond The Ring is the documentary.
Thanks, so it's still worth buying the DVDs then.Â

Do the DVDs on the WWE Network, e.g. Macho Man: The Randy Savage Story, Bret Hart Dungeon Collection etc, include the matches from said DVDs or just the documentaries?

I got it with my Wrestlemania game on the Commodore Amiga in 1991 and I still have the tape. It also had the summerslam 89 intro and the close up scenes of wrestlers getting ready.
That's the one, many thanks!

My first ever WWF video, which I acquired in 1991 as a six or seven year old, was a freebie with a wrestling game for the Atari ST (I think it was called WWF Superstars). The running time was only about 15 mins and it included:
- The standard Silvervision opening and disclaimers of that period ("So if it's body slams, side suplexes, clotheslines, dropkicks and powerslams that your're after..... All WWF wrestling superstars are highly trained professional athletes......")
- The same narrator from the opening disclaimer analysing a Rockers VS jobbers match move by move - I watched it so many times I still have some of the script ingrained in my memory ("Here we see the Rockers use a combination of moves to dazzle their opponents.......")
- The video montage of Hulk Hogan getting squashed repeatedly by Earthquake and the sad cover of 'Real American' playing in the background, followed immediately by a happy montage with the normal Real American theme
That might have actually been it - was clearly just a way of promoting Silvervision's line up (worked on me anyway).Â
In any case, I can't find anything on Google about this VHS, and sadly I doubt I still have it unless it's tucked away in my mum's attic. Does anyone recall owning such a title, and if so what are your memories of it? Or any other random SV releases you remember having that nobody else ever seems to talk about?Â

/How come nobody seemed to notice Kenny Omega was such a good wrestler until just a couple of years ago? His 6 star match ratings seemed to come out of nowhere and he'd been around for over a decade.Â

In the WWF he wasn't trying to hide his Texan drawl whereas in WCW he was billed as being from Cali.
Oh right thanks!

Why did Steve Austin not only look, but also SOUND completely different (almost like another person) when he was in WCW in the early 90s compared to the WWF Attitude Era?

Never knew this had been recorded, only ever seen stills of the match.
Great find.
This and the Bret/Warrior tag match are on the new WWE Unreleased 1986 - 1995 DVD released the other day.Â

Can anyone identify the WWF wrestlers on the right (I can only make out Stone Cold and - I think - Hardcore Holly at the back):Â

How do you cancel NJPW world?
You might as well wait until June 30th as it still charges for the whole of the month regardless of when you cancel/join.Â

Has anyone managed to get NJPW World working on an Amazon fire stick/tablet?

oh, sorry bud. the way you worded it before was like you were skipping straight to December 97, and while obviously the boom would carry on after that point, to have missed out on 97 as a whole would have been criminalÂ
I probably should give 97 a re-watch actually; my memory from 20 years ago's getting a bit hazy. :-)Â

Woah woah woah, you're skipping to December 97 WWF TV as a starting point. 1997 has some of the best TV they've ever had
I watched it at the time. Quit just before the beginning of the boom (around Montreal-ish). :-)Â

When do people reckon is the best point to start watching late 80s/early 90s WCW? I was thinking of starting at November 1988 when Turner bought out Crockett and the company actually started to be called WCW; but I've heard JCP stuff from '86 to '88Â (all weekly shows available on the Network) is really good.Â
It's just kinda annoying me as WWF has got very logical starting points (1984, with Hogan's debut onwards, TNT and the MSG shows); I'm also following other time periods concurrently (1987 onwards now that Prime Time is up /  Attitude Era - Dec '97 onwards / WCW in mid 90s from first Nitro onwards), all of which I feel were good points to start without very much at all to catch up on in terms of ongoing storylines.Â

I wondered the same. The thing is the popularity of the BritWres promotions, still a niche interest, is no indication of the level of casual fan interest in wrestling as a whole, which if TV ratings are anything to go by is probably the lowest it's been in the UK in living memory.
