Just a quick one on the epilepsy inducing camera cuts.

I thought it was just a WWE thing, but my youngest daughter has Youtube on all day today while I've been working in the same room. The shit she watches on there is exactly the same. She's had something called ZamZam family(or something similar), and it's unwatchable in my opinion. There is really jarring cuts constantly, and not just to swap angles. They will cut after each sentence but keep the same camera angles. You will just see them judder slightly where they have not lined them back up right. It game me a fucking headache!

It's made me wonder though, is this what the current generation of young fans want and enjoy, and is it just us old farts that are complaining?

All YouTube videos seem to do that.

I assume it's so they don't have to re-shoot, they just cut out all their "errrr" "ummmm" etc.

Obviously, that kind of shit wouldn't fly on a proper TV channel, but as much as these goons all like to pretend they're professional broadcasters, they are just amateurs who have lucked into making money out of a hobby.

  2. It's not just that MSG is pricey to hire, but to broadcast live from Manhattan you have to pay a massive fee as well, which is why they don't mind doing PPVs Raw Smackdown NXT from Brooklyn, but they still do 3 or 4 house shows at MSG a year.

The only reason they did the Raw and Smackdowns from MSG last year is because MSG had NJPW do a show, would have let AAA do a show there if they'd sold enough tickets (and I think NJPW had another scheduled show there for this year).  The owners of MSG for some reason wanted WWE to do televised shows from there again and WWE probably agreed to it in exchange for MSG not letting AEW do a show there or something.

  3. I may have misread what the person was saying.   It might be he meant that the people in the "crowd" can't hear each other, so they can't react to chants and stuff.   But we will be able to hear them.   I'm not sure, I did only skim through the post.  Guess we'll find out tonight.

I was thinking this. I mean fans don't make as much noise as they used to in the arenas anyway but expecting them to shout and chant in their own homes is a bit... weird.

Apparently we won't actually be able to hear the fans at home, just see them.

Any crowd noise we hear on TV will be artificial.

Financially, they're fine at the moment but I don't see them getting the same kind of money for TV next time the deals are renewed.

Isn't that what everyone was saying last time?

  6. I think it might be a while before WWE do any international shows.   Even once they can perform in arenas again in America I think it'll be a while before they're back here or anywhere, other than maybe Canada (and Saudi Arabia probably).   I think the October shows will just be cancelled rather than postponed now.

Has the Crucible Theatre ever been used for a wrestling event? The floor might be too small but it looks like a wonderful place to run a show. I could see NXT UK doing some nice looking tapings there if they keep the lights up a bit.

I might be making this up, but I think Progress were asked about running it on twitter when they were looking at expanding out of London and they said they'd contacted the venue and they weren't interested.  I certainly remember someone saying they'd made enquiries about the venue.   I doubt it's a cheap place to hire.

I'm talking about matches w some sort of magnitude. Even the Punk v Cena, Lesnar v Taker etc matches had more oompf to them in terms of start power. I wouldn't say ridiculous at all. I'm saying that we have gone from relatively big names to a historically bland non draw and a mid carder who recently won a title.

You don't see McIntyre and Orton as big names, but plenty of the young kids watching will do, just like you saw Austin & Rock as big names when you were a kid and the generation before you thought they were nothing compared to Hogan & Warrior.

I know they're not on the same level, but for what they've got Orton vs. McIntyre is a fairly big match.  You could argue Orton and McIntyre are bigger names than Austin & Rock, seeing as the company makes more money now than it did in 1999 (you'd be wrong obviously, but there is an argument to be had there)

  9. Not watched a lot of AEW since they started doing empty arena shows, but I was intrigued to see Jericho vs. Cassidy and also I love Pentagon so was glad to see him back and wanted to see his match and also interested in how The Revival are doing, so watched those 2 matches and AEW's empty arena shows have such a better atmosphere than WWE's.   I think it's a combination of the venue, and there being more people in the "crowd".  Or the ones there are just better at making noise that sounds like they're an actual audience.

Talking about Lars Sullivan in the AEW thread and it made me wonder how the fuck he's still employed?

His main roster call up has been a total disaster. He had a breakdown before his debut, which forced them to scrap his feud with Cena. He got outed both for making horrible comments online AND starring in gay porn videos and he's been out for over a year with an injury.

Considering how many people they've gotten rid of lately it seems insane that they've kept him.

If he never comes back, it will be one of the strangest main roster runs ever.   Let's pretend you're a kid who doesn't watch NXT and doesn't read any news and rumours online.

His debut is promoted for several weeks with unique video packages, then his name is just included with a group of other new wrestlers as coming soon.   All those other wrestlers arrive, but he doesn't and isn't mentioned anymore.  Until about 10 weeks later when he shows up.  He then doesn't actually have any matches for another 2 months, but makes his debut on a PPV, then a rematch on the next Raw and then disappears and hasn't been seen or mentioned in the year since.

Punching your fans to sell your ‘tough guy persona’. I really hope that isn’t true.

If it is, than Jimmy Havoc is the biggest joke on the planet. Ridiculous. Biggest loser ever. Completely lost himself in being a mark for himself.

Wake up, ‘Jimmy Havoc’ does not really exist! You are in that ring to entertain the fans. They travelled hours and paid their hard earned money to see you wrestle. You should feel honored that they like you and want to shake your hand.

Progress Wrestling should be ashamed for not acting on this directly and brushing it off as ‘he’s and independent contracter’. They really dropped the ball here.

Progress knew perfectly well he wasn't protecting his character, they're not that bloody stupid.  They just didn't want to acknowledge that their top star is a violent thug,  But, saying, he may have been protecting his character, like that somehow makes it OK.   Piss poor.  I wish the guy it happened to had gone public with it at the time.

Surely getting buried in the casket is the only way to finish his career?  At SS would be perfect.  Choose someone up and coming to get the rub - Keith Lee for example.

I think him driving off into the night on a motorbike was more fitting.  Even if he doesn't ever wrestle again, I'm sure we'll see him again.   You'd think a proper send off in front of fans, but in character, would be something he'd want.

The silence from Jim Smallman is disappointing, Especially with what Pollyanna said regarding his treatment of the whole situation.

Their response to that Jimmy Havoc thing was pathetic aswell.   Imagine it......you go to a pub literally around the corner from the wrestling venue, immediately after the show and get punched by one of the wrestlers and the promotion's response is "nothing to do with us, it didn't happen on our watch, he was probably in character"
