The bit when he goes to collect his money from Jean Philipe is a favourite of mine. The scene of him practising his tough guy shite in the mirror is classic and then when he finally goes around to get his money, he’s the one who gets roughed up and threatened.

Yes! When he's all Travis Bickle in the mirror then confronts Jean Philippe and gets his earring ripped out. Comedy gold.

Furio sorted Jean Philippe in the end though (or so we were led to believe).

  2. I've been rewatching it as well and I'm not far behind you. I've just finished the episode where Tony finds out that Gloria killed herself and he spends the whole episode trying to prove to himself that he's a good guy really. Artie gets scammed over the Almanac drink (the new vodka) and gets himself in a right state.

I've found season 4 a bit subdued compared to previous seasons. I remember season 5 being very good though so I'll be cracking on with that soon.

Plenty have, and they've faced no censure. That's why people are pissed off about what's happened with Lineker.

Fair point. My question remains the same though. If the people you refer to did face censure then what would your reaction be?

  4. Right, without wishing to turn this thread into a left vs. right thing, how would you all be reacting had a well known pundit/commentator stepped down due to expressing right wing/anti-immigration views for example? I bet you'd all be celebrating (though if I'm wrong here then I'd be happy to be corrected).

  5. Had a nice Indian takeaway a couple of nights back.

    Lamb phall.

    Pilou rice.

    Mixed kebab starter.

    Chicken pakoras.

    Keema naan.

And a bottle of Kingfisher to wash it down.

    Very good

  6. I was discussing Diamonds Are Forever with a friend yesterday. He's of the impression that Roger Moore would have been better suited to the film given the camp villains and Connery not playing it straight. I think he definitely has a point. Although, Blofeld does feature (even though Charles Gray is terrible in the role).

In the end I had to ultimately disagree with my friend as for me the Moore era began with Live and Let Die. And what a great film that was!

  7. Wint and Kidd were superb henchmen, though I just couldn't stand Charles Gray as Blofeld. Donald Pleasance he isn't. I found it mildly amusing how the camera shots tried to avoid showing how Sean Connery was getting a bit of a gut. Overall it was entertaining for what it was but about to get a lot better with the Moore era.

  8. I enjoyed Thunderball though I agree with most of your assessment. Largo was a great villain. The underwater stuff I found a bit underwhelming for the most part. Looking forward to your review of You Only Live Twice. One of my favourite Bond films (possibly my favourite Connery film).

Not really. He could be the best man for the job by a country a mile, but the blue rosette on his chest means that most people on here would rather spend a night on the town with Boycie than scribble an "x" next to his name on a voting paper.

I'll have you know that I'm a delight to spend a night on the town with young man.

  10. Love that a source at Number 10 called Michael Gove a 'snake' for saying the PM should resign.

Let's not forget that our PM is a man who wrote two columns regarding Brexit - one for, one against then decided which one served his interests best; a few years later he stood up and gave a toast to Theresa May after she had outlined her proposed Brexit deal at Chequers - he resigned virtually the next day saying it was a terrible proposal once he realised it didn't have the support of the party. Once PM he purged the party of any genuine 'One nation' Conservatives, not only on the basis of them not backing his Brexit deal but of even just wanting it to undergo proper Parliamentary scrutiny. In doing so he sacked MPs who had voted FOR Brexit more times than he actually had! He is a man who conducted an affair and then lied about it when questioned by his then party leader - I can't remember if that was the affair conducted as his wife was battling Cancer or another one. He is owed no loyalty as he has never shown any.

Having said that I do find the situation ridiculous. Tory MPs and Ministers have sat there for the last two plus years listening to the PM lie about everything including Brexit; the Protocol; COVID; the vaccine rollout; Child poverty figures; employment figures; Police numbers; Hospital plans; Nurse recruitment figures; Social care plans; Partygate etc and that's just off the top of my head. Now apparently they suddenly want honesty and integrity in politics, and government to be conducted in a serious upstanding manner. They don't or they'd have never served under a such a man in the first place.

  11. Very sad news. Great actor. Superb in Goodfellas (obviously). Though I also thought he was great in Unlawful Entry, a very underrated film. Good value in Hannibal as well. Recently seen him in Many Saints of Newark

    RIP
