  2. Could anyone give me a (brief) outline on Japenese wrestling? I mean in terms of, does NJPW run weekly shows? Same goes for NOAH? Do they run PPV's? and how often?

Major league pro wrestling in Japan follows the tour format, which means a string of (say) a dozen shows spread around the country across the space of about three weeks. Certain shows (in bigger buildings) are taped for TV and air on the promotion's weekly TV spot with whatever network. The workers then get a couple of weeks off before the next tour. This helps give them time to rehab injuries and means that the wrestlers get a chance to go home and spend time with families and the like. More often than not, tours will build towards a "Tour Climax" at a big arena which usually features title matches and grudge match culminations.NJPW do run live PPVs at various points throughout the year, but they're not annual "named" events like WWE PPVs are.Other smaller promotions do "spot" shows, but the major promotions all follow the tour system.
  3. I hope Shelton Benjamin makes it two straight years as 'rookie of the year'.

It looks like they've changed that award to "Newcomer of the year" after last year's debacle. :D Of course, Ken Kennedy's going to cakewalk the Newcomer of the Year award...
  4. I am now told I only have Raws, I've decided not to bother with anything before Taboo Tuesday because the PPV seemed crap, haven't been impressed with the Raw after Taboo Tuesday yet..Another question, when did Styles sign with WWE? And is it long term or short term?

It's supposed to be short term, but I think he has actually signed now, his first show was Taboo Tuesday filling in for Coach.
What it actually is is a 52 week "trial", where basically he's on a week by week basis and can be let go at any time. After the 52 weeks, and provided everyone is happy, they'll sign a proper long term deal. It's unclear whether the trial is at the request of WWE or Styles - after all, Joey has a full time advertising job.
  5. Question for the Japanese Wrestling boffs. In the top companys like New Japan, All Japan and NOAH i have enever seen a Steel Cage Match billed........ Or any kind of gimmick matches like Ladder Matches and such.......... Have there been any? Any reasons for the lack of them?My guess for the lack of them is the whole wrestling being seen as a legitimate sport in Japan.

New Japan ran a "Cage Death" match either last year or the year before. I want to say Chono vs. Fujita, but I could be way off.I'm pretty sure they've also played host to an Atsushi Onita lunatic main event in years past as well. Something involving barbed wire, explosions and possibly also a Cage.
New Japan have had two cage matchesNJPW "OSAKA DREAM NIGHT", 8/28/03 (PPV/WPW/NJ+IWTV Internet) (Buy)Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium6,000 Fans - No Vacancy9. Cage Death Match - U-30 Openweight Title: Hiroshi Tanahashi © beat Kazunari Murakami (12:40) by KO (8th defense). In both cases, the cage was more like a Hell In The Cell cage than a traditional cage - meaning that the competitors were able to walk around between the ring and cage. The Tanahashi vs Murakami one was an Empty Arena cage match. With regards to other big gimmick matches in New JapanChono vs Onita (No Rope Explosive Barbed Wire Death Match) April 99Great Muta vs Great Nita (No Rope Explosive Barbed Wire Barricade Explosive Land Mine Death Match) August 99Chono vs Tenryu (Chain Death Match) September 04Chono & Frye vs Tenzan & Nagata (Lumberjack Death Match) October 04Chono vs Tenzan (Lumberjack & Chain Death Match) October 04
  6. What's Jillian Hall's back story? I thought she was one of this years Divasearch girls, but then I saw her wrestle Stacy on Velocity this morning and she actually came across as a decent wrestler. That makes me doubt she's a Divasearch girl and is a wrestler who WWE signed up like they did with Alexis Laree. Has she wrestled elsewhere before coming to WWE?

She was brought into OVW via Jim Cornette, looking like this...Jillian_Hall.jpgAll curly hair, plain face, flat chest, slightly chubby and generally everything that WWE wouldn't want in a Diva. She obviously trained in OVW under Danny Davis and she was a big favourite of Cornette. She had a cheerleading background, so was fairly flexible, and Cornette tried to get her over by referring to her as "terminally cute" all the time.Anyway, poor Jillian toiled away in OVW for a while, never really getting anywhere - mostly because OVW's womens division consisted of even less wrestlers than the WWE division... and she decided that she needed to work on her look. So, she lost a lot of weight, changed her face, got some huge boobs, straightened her hair... and actually became rather hot. WWE signed her to a developmental deal.Within the last year, Jillian had positioned herself as the "dominant female" of OVW, calling herself the "Blond Bombshell" and using Melissa Coates (i.e. Snitsky's new girlfriend) as her bodyguard. Over the summer, she became involved with Chad & Tank Toland (now known as The Dicks on Smackdown). The Tolands were calling themselves the "Blond Bombers", so Jillian's "Bombshell" nickname worked well and she became their manager. So yeah, she's fully trained as a wrestler under Danny Davis and has got a fair bit of potential. She's worked really hard to get to WWE, which is why the whole "mole" thing is such a bad joke.
  7. Is 'worker' just a term that means 'wrestler'?

They're interchangeable most of the time, but Wrestling Observer's year end awards have the award for "Best Wrestler" and then a separate award for "Best Worker".I suppose the difference is that the "wrestler" term takes into account all facets of what makes a wrestler - including promo ability, box office appeal, etc... whereas the "worker" award strips away all the guff and is presented to the best in-ring performer.

Also, I've heard several definitions of 'ring psychology' and have a good idea of what it means, but is the terms actual definition?

That sentence doesn't appear to make grammatical sense... but I'll endeavour onwards. :/ The best definition I've ever heard for psychology is that where moves are the "what", psychology is the "why"
