So what was the deal with Slater showing up on Raw a couple of weeks ago? Was he released but they brought him back for one night just to lose to Drew?

He was still within the 90 days of his no compete clause/notice period/gardening leave that has now expired. Same way that Angle showed up a couple of times he got released.

  2. I haven’t seen this week’s show yet, but the vibe I got from the previous week is that having beaten jolly, ‘normal’ Bray at MITB, he now has to beat Wyatt Family Bray, before presumably facing the Fiend at Summerslam in a journey linking together all their ‘history’ or something.

It all seems semi-canon anyway at the minute so I wouldn’t worry too much about it!

It could be. Even if it isn't specifically, it's definitely tongue in cheek. Even they aren't that lacking in self-awareness.

I thought that after Charly fluffed that closing line to Raw after that face to face interview thing, they just decided to run with it. She said it so awkwardly that it can’t have been what she was meant to say.

  4. Only really started watching the full shows for the first time in years during the lockdown as there’s nothing else on to watch, but are there always so many squash matches on Raw, or is it just because of the current ‘situation’?

Smacky D doesn’t seem to have as many, but this was the first week since Mania that hasn’t been full of them. Before yesterday every match on Raw went either 90 seconds or 30 minutes.

It was filmed over the past 3 years so not sure how it can be a cash in of something just released

It was also previewed after Wrestlemania a Month ago before The Last Dance had even been released as well

Don't think WWE have been filming the Undertaker for the past 3 years just waiting for a sports documentary to drop so they can cash in on some hype and have there own documentary

Yeah, but they film everything these days for Network stuff, they’d definitely have had something in mind. Plus, The Last Dance has been in development for yonks, it didn’t just come out of nowhere.

Maybe I’m overthinking it, but the story of a legend’s supposedly ‘final run’ that didn’t turn out to be the case but was still considered the end of an era, the interview format of Taker in his armchair at home and the timing of the release seems a bit much to just be coincidence.

I love the first three Toy Story films but 4 was a bit of a let down. I think they opened the universe up too much and put in too many new characters at the expense of familiar ones for what's supposed to be the closing chapter.

They’ve always introduced new characters each Toy Story film though, Jessie and Bullseye in 2, Pricklepants and that dinosaur in 3 etc. For me the much bigger issue that I really didn’t enjoy about 4 was:

The bitch of an antagonist not only didn’t get her comeuppance but got exactly what she wanted without really learning a lesson. She didn’t become ‘good’, everyone else just seemed to become more tolerant and take pity on her. While I appreciate it shows what a stand up guy Woody is, it just wasn’t the ending I wanted.

No way WWE would let Drake Maverick work without some kind of contract if only for liability reasons.

He’ll be under contract for the next 83 days or whatever won’t he? With them getting paid for 90 days post-release, it’s more of a three month notice period on gardening leave than an instant contract termination I’d have thought.

Pop it in here rather than the NBA thread, as maybe some people won't be aware of it but the first two episodes of The Last Dance (Netflix) really are superb, and set things up nicely for the rest of the series.

There is a load of episodes left, but the pacing of the first two have been spot on (how about that Netflix?), and I'd say anyone with a passing interest in basketball/sport would enjoy this.

I also just hope that Scottie Pippen is happy forever, as I love him.

Probably to do with this being an ESPN and NBA production rather than Netflix, as I think their main association with this is they’ve brought the international rights for it outside the States rather than having much to do it being put together. Like Better Call Saul I guess.

That will explain the scheduling as well, as it is going along with how ESPN are showing it over there.

  9. Yeah BT’s app is a bit crap like that. For presumably technical reasons, anything that is shown live with their ‘enhanced player’, with things like fast forwarding etc. is only available on their mobile/tablet apps and computers, and isn’t castable or viewable on a big screen (bar the workaround Colin mentioned). So as well as all their WWE it’s the same for any of their live football and rugby as well.

Its only the edited highlights shows of various lengths rather than the original broadcasts that make it in to the normal on demand section, thus viewable on all devices.

The Blake looking like shit thing is particularly egregious considering the fact that he was in decent shape during his run with Murphy.

He's a one that I always thought would be an NXT lifer to be fair. He was one of the ones, like Shawn Spears who was  talked about as being a favourite with the boys in the PC years ago but he never parsed that into a decent character or hook.

I don’t think there was anybody that had been in NXT for longer than him was there?

Aliyah is probably the only one that runs him close. She was on that Breaking Ground series which feels forever ago and seems to still pop up every so often despite never doing anything particularly memorable in all that time. At least Blake had a tag title run in there and has been on a few Takeovers.

  11. Who’s the ginger chap who has popped up breaking up a few scuffles in WWE recent weeks? And have they retired Fit Finlay from this role now? Always seems to be Noble or Adam Pearce these days, although I think I saw Sonjay Dutt the other week.

I don't know how I missed that to be honest. I felt like he was always into Rhonda.

I mean they never outright said it, but it was always hinted at, especially in that episode where his butler (I think?) died.

Same reason Big Show doesn't when he does his closed punch finisher.

To be fair, I remember them saying that the rules had been changed around the time he started doing that to allow close fists. As far as I’m aware, it’s still ‘legal’ in WWE.

Vaughan was indeed an outstanding captain. But if we had the 'I wouldn't want to be stuck in a lift with you' award for cricketers, he would be up there for me. Watching him do his lad routine on Instagram and stuff is embarrassing and he's miles behind where he ought to be when it comes to understanding mental health issues. His attitude to Trescothick when he was really starting to struggle mentally, ' I need you out there, I'm injured' is one thing back in 2005, but then following that up with accusing Jonathan Trott of 'conning people' when he left a tour due to burnout and what turned out to be depression is another. No excuse for it in this decade.

And if you believe the rumours, that wasn’t the worst thing he did to Trescothick...

I heard from a couple of national cricket journalists a few years back that Vaughan was having an affair with Trescothick’s wife during one of the tours (guess it was the 06-07 Ashes when he was injured), hence why Tres left one of the tours early.

  15. They’d just ignore it and carry on surely, like when someone taps out in a ladder match for example, which they do fairly regularly.

The match can’t be won by somebody who isn’t it, so the submission doesn’t end the match.

NXT is his baby and it's barely produced any real stars that sell tickets or move the needle during it's existence. WWE will not be better off with him in charge.

This is something that always gets me. Fair enough his NXT has created a number of top female stars, but it hasn’t really built any top male stars in WWE who weren’t already big names from TNA, Japan or the Indies.

Who would the biggest products be? Reigns and Rollins might count but they were probably more FCW really. Failing that it’s probably Bray Wyatt or Elias isn’t it? Hardly top guys.

  17. Wayyy late to this, but just watched the Hardys 24 and Styles 365 docs from last year. I know it was mentioned a lot at the time, but given they acknowledge TNA pretty heavily in both, is there any reason why Jeff Jarrett managed to get in the Hall of Fame without them or him mentioning TNA once?

I’d almost understand if it was their old principles of pretending they didn’t exist but it seems odd for 16 years of Jarrett’s life to be ignored but then a few months later, you’ve got TNA being presented as part of WWE canon like its WCW or ECW.

Saunders' mouth is going to get him in trouble sooner or later. This time nothing got harmed but some plates and someone's chicken but he needs to learn when to shut the fuck up. Going around calling people things like 'racist cunt' on a filmed interview with one of the biggest boxing journalists in the world, then not having the intelligence to realise the internet is worldwide, that person will have seen the interview and is also a 6ft7 world heavyweight champion...and you still approach him and his team as if nothing's been said and you're all mates? It says everything about just how thick this fucking twat is.

I'm expecting trouble at the show tonight, to be honest. Obviously Fury's fighting so there'll no doubt be loads of travellers there. Saunders will be there with whoever he knocks about with. On top of that you'll have Wilder's entourage there and they don't seem the type to shy away from bother. It's in Belfast. Finlay already told us they love foightin' there. And it's a Warren show. Which means it'll go on way too long and way too late, giving everyone more time to get more bladdered and aggressive.

Hopefully Fury beats this Vienetta or whatever his name is impressively so everyone's happy and maybe we avoid the carnage. But there's too many fiery tempers and dodgy fuckers involved in this to make me think it's going to come and go peacefully.

If it’s any consolation, apparently there is an 11pm curfew tonight so it should be a fairly early finish with BT only having the three fights scheduled from 7.45 and no floaters

But yeah, it’s a Tyson Fury fight so there will be trouble - and usually at ringside rather than in the cheap seats!
