Laredo Kid wrestled The KISS Demon on pay-per-view. What a year this is.

No brother, Laredo Kid had to get in there with Johnny Swinger daddy! He taught those young boys everything.

Johnny Swinger being the biggest babyface not called Josh Alexander in the crowd's eyes just shown how great a gimmick it is. I'm kind of gutted he didn't win Call My Shot, so I never heard "loosen up on that ankle lock Shamrock daddy" or getting suplexed with "calm down, Gotch"

  2. I don't know if styles is so easy to put in boxes. Or at least to our eyes.

For example, people say "lucha" and there's an easily discernable difference between say IWRG and CMLL.

One of my biggest bugbears is when people say "80s southern style". It's absolute shite. Memphis wasn't like Mid South which wasn't like Crockett, which wasn't like Alabama which wasn't like Central States which wasn't like Dallas.

But all of them would occasionally have things which would go against type.

I think probably the only stuff which had a dyed in the wool permanent style was the worked shoot stuff lie UWF,  UWFI, RINGS and Pancrase?

  3.

How did I miss this happening? Bonus points for using the Harley Race World Champion theme as well.

Marvellous. I fucking love me some Trevor Murdoch.

    Current best things in wrestling.

    1) Bron Breakker

    2) Josh Alexander

    3) The Hurt Business (finally back)

    4) Trevor Murdoch NWA champion

    5) El Pollo vs Comando Negro from IWRG in 2010. Although it should always be number one in everyone's hearts.

Couldn’t disagree more. Vince grew up in a wrestling family, basically groomed into running the company and had big ambitions. Tony Khan is a life long fan. He’s living out his childhood dream, basically having a real life Wrestling Warfare. The only way he gets out is if they lose their TV deal, or they get bought out.

Did he give a shit about football? Can he even find Fulham on a map? Also, we’re talking Fulham here not Chelsea, they are overachieving by Yo-Yoing between the top two tiers in Football.

Vince didn't really so much grow up in a wrestling family. He lived in the south and didn't meet his old man until he was 12 (probably why he loves those redneck gimmicks so much). At the same time Vince was a life long fan, it's been discussed on here recently his hard on for people like Bobo Brazil and he's well known for his love of all the old timers. Famously he loved Dr Jerry Graham.

Was he groomed into running the company? Very possibly, very probably. But to say he's not a wrestling fan would be unfair. However he's got skin like rhino hide.

Khan has already been a moody bugger about the exploding ring match. When people turn on him, and it will happen at some point as its wrestling and I think everyone other than Ricky Steamboat gets set upon at some point, will he have the wherewithal and passion for all his old buddies off places like DVDVR and Scotsmanality running him to shite?

Also Fulham play ine one of the most affluent areas in England, and have been very heavily bankrolled since the days of signing Kit Symons and Chris Coleman in the late 90s. I don't think they've overachieved whatsoever. Let's not confuse them with say a Bournemouth or Brighton.

Bixenspan's name seems to pop up in every other post on here these days, and I still haven't a clue who he is or why anyone should care what he's on about.

Can be a good historical touchstone, likes to cause problems, shit of a person, looks like a burnt tramp.

  6. I can see Khan getting bored before Vince, to be honest. He's getting an easy ride at the moment and he's newish and exciting (not so much as Bronn). But when backlash comes, and it will, and times get shit, and they will, its easier to cast off a busman's holiday (or so it feels at the moment for him) than something you've had to gamble everything thing on and lose sleep for 40odd years over.  I mean he's doing nothing the rest of us wouldn't do if we were a bunch of rich playboys. But how much work is in him?

Just look at the state Fulham is in.

  7. Nothing in this thread will ever compare to that day in about 2006 when I rolled out of bed to see John Suchet in a toupee presenting Going For Gold on Channel 5.

I had hopes for it. But there was no  foreign players for me to be lazily xenophobic at (which was half the fun of Going for Gold. Bottle of Lucozade in hand shouting "Go on Sark, beat the Dutch nob! " while I'm pretending to be ill off school waiting for Helen Rollason doing Sport on Friday on BBC2), Suchet in a toupee, it was an hour show of which literally (not really, but it was often) 45 minutes was a quizmania phone in thing back before everyone in Televsion got twatted for it, and it had a tinny midi version of the chorus playing for the hour of the show in the back ground.

Going in, I thought it'd be great. And after that day now I assume everything will be shit. From a Sunday dinner to a lazy wank.
