  1. I've been thinking about going into town to pick that up today, but I've decided I'm not that bothered. I love the first one but I never got into the level creation side of things and I imagine the platforming side of the sequel is just going to be more of the same. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I'd rather save my

  2. I don't remember the acting in Coronation Street being as bad as any of this... When did that happen? Everyone seems to have turned into sub-stage school child actors. The script seemed like it was written by kids as well, really cringeworthy stuff. I laughed lots at the tram driver's face though, and the second half of the tram flipping up into the air was quite exciting.

I'll watch the live episode later this week in the hope that something might go wrong or someone says fuck (failing that, it's always funny to see people not quite get their cue on time and you get a couple of seconds of them standing still looking gormless waiting to say their lines), and then I'll go back to not watching Coronation Street again.

  3. I always like to watch some horror films in October, what with Halloween coming at the end of the month and all that. Today I gave the new Nightmare On Elm Street a go, and it's the first film in a long long time that I had to switch off halfway through because it was just so utterly shit. Everything about this film sucked massive balls, from the script (some of the dialogue makes The Room look well-written) to the actors to the "special" effects (or defects). I did wonder if it might have improved in the second half, but I didn't really fancy spending another 45 minutes on it so off it went. I do love the original series of films and I went into this with a completely open mind, thinking it would be interesting to see how they reintroduced Freddy to the kids of today who wouldn't really pay any attention to the original films seeing as they're, like, so old (OMGLOL etc). But no, it was just bollocks. Really bad bollocks.

Speaking of which, I've just got hold of Hellraiser 1-8 (EIGHT!!) which should keep me going for a few nights. I've only seen the first one before and I enjoyed it a lot, but it'll be fun to see how the quality goes down and down as the sequels go on and on (and on)...

  4. The thing that annoys me about Powerslam at the moment is the 4 (or sometimes 6) page PPV reports which, by the time the magazine comes out, feel like they're at least two months old. Although that's probably more to do with how many PPVs there are these days, but still. It's 4-6 pages that they could use for an interview or two, or a nice article or something. Anything as long as it isn't that awful McMahon Quarterly Report which seems to always be 100% made up.

Oh, and the constant referrals to a "John Cena Cartoon Comeback" (always capitalised) or his "NPSTF (No Pressure STF)" (actual quote - I'm not just adding in what the letters stand for - it's always written that way) really wind me up. We get that Fin Martin isn't a fan. Neither are a lot of people, but it really makes him come across like a complete dick.

  5. Over the last week and a half I've watched all three seasons of Breaking Bad from the very beginning. I wasn't expecting to get through it so fast, it was just so gripping that as soon as one episode ended I would immediately press play on the next one, going through three or four in one sitting. Such a great show, it's just annoying that after having so much of it to watch I've now reached the end and the fourth season isn't on until next year!

  6. After deciding I've got all I'm going to get out of Red Dead Redemption, I traded it in this afternoon along with a few other bits and pieces (including the really rubbish Naughty Bear, which I'm sort of ashamed I even bought in the first place) and ended up with a lovely big CEX credit note. It has been spent already - this weekend will be filled with Alan Wake, Metro 2033, Splinter Cell Conviction, Infamous, GTA Liberty City Stories (I never made it to the end of either of the PSP GTA games, so it'll be nice to catch up), and Darksiders and Just Cause 2 which just came through from Lovefilm. Not leaving the house is my favourite thing ever :)

  7. I packed it away this morning, I'm done with it for the time being. I might have a go at Bowser's Inside Story on the DS, I've had it for ages but never got round to playing it. I'm re-visiting Borderlands at the moment though, it's been a while. Still great fun, just lots of satisfyingly mindless blasting and swearing.

  8. Do you know, I never once noticed any time when I pressed A and Mario didn't jump. Are you sure you didn't have like a glass or something on the table between you and the sensor bar, distorting the signal from the remote? It's nowhere near as unresponsive as you claim!

I didn't play through SMG1 as Luigi to get a second set of stars, and I'm not going to do it with this one either. Not a chance. It was good fun and everything, but enough's enough. Although yesterday I got two things from Lovefilm and one doesn't work (disc read error) and the other was a South Park DVD which isn't even on my rental list, so I seem to be out of things to play until I get these sent back and they send me something else. Maybe I'll have to *shudder* leave the house...

Edit: Oh yeah, and I must agree that the bird levels are fucking awful. They're just not fun to play. The Monkey Ball style ones are still shit as well. Hmm.

  9. I've just beaten Bowser, with 91 stars at the end. Some I haven't got because I just haven't gone back for them yet, I need to find comet coins to open a few more up, and there's a couple that I haven't got because they were so infuriatingly tricky that I quit before ending up throwing the remote at the TV. I haven't done any of those cleaning jobs either, where you have to smash boxes using fireballs, because I really really hated those in SMG1. And I haven't found any of the elusive green stars yet.

So Bowser's dead but there's still plenty to do. It's a cracking game, but I'm not sure if it's as varied as the first one. It seemed quite a bit shorter, too. A very solid 8 out of 10, but on the high side of 8 (like an 8.8 or 8.9) if that was possible.

  10. What are you on about? It's the same game but with different levels!

Having spent this afternoon with SMG2 (thanks, Game!), I found no faults whatsoever with the controls. The camera did spin round a bit too far one time, but I corrected it with the buttons (the ones that within the first 10 minutes of the game it tells you to press if you ever need to change the angle). It isn't the best game ever, but it's a solid 8 creeping up to a 9.

  11. Without going back through this thread to find the answer (partly because I'm lazy and partly because the IPS error is out in full force at the moment), has anyone seen The Human Centipede? I watched it with a mate the other day and we both loved it despite it not being as gory as we expected. It's actually quite a slow film, but it's full of horrible situations which are presided over by one of the most maniacal doctors I've ever seen in film. Seriously, the lead villain in this movie is one of the best baddies in years. So little happens in the film that I can't say much more about it without giving anything away, but it's well worth a watch if you fancy seeing people in an utterly miserable situation that there seems to be no way out of.

  12. I think you're in for another disappointment because I got that out the library a little while back and it wasn't a very good comic book :/

Bah. I'll read any old shit if it's in comic form though. It can't be any worse than WWE Heroes.

  13. My trip to the sorting office this morning resulted in The Darkness Compendium (1000 pages of comic that the underrated game is based on) and a Sensational Sherri Classic Superstars action figure. Not Mario Galaxy 2 :(

It just as TripleA said makes my blood boil when a game gets a perfect score when its FAR FAR from perfect. As for Mario id love that game if the camera were sort but as mentioned they tried there best or I could use the Classic Controller over the nun chuck and remote and just have teh right stick act as the pointer.

Can't you control the camera the same way you could in Galaxy 1? It sounds like your main issue is that you just suck at using the remote. There's no way a Mario game would ever be released which is as unresponsive as you claim. It just wouldn't happen.

For Big Rob - you can't go wrong with Ratchet & Clank on the PS3 if you're looking for a platformer. There's no actual Theme Park game, but Thrillville: Off The Rails tries its best. I didn't think it was very good though...

While I'm here, a new Mortal Kombat trailer has surfaced online. Apparently it was made to try to sell the Mortal Kombat franchise to Warner Bros, in an attempt to get the series commissioned for a "reboot". I hate that phrase.

  14. I can't find the Wii thread so this can go here instead.

I've been playing No More Heroes 2 on the Wii today, and it's a bit disappointing. I was a massive fan of the first one, but this is just more of the same only with worse graphics (it's all quite dark and most stuff looks really faded, which I'm almost sure is by design but it looks terrible stretched onto a 40 inch HD TV). They've taken out a couple of things that made the first one fun - some of the katana-related graphics are gone, so instead of seeing it fly up in the air and fall back down to impale someone when you go for a kill it just appears from out of nowhere sticking out of their dead body. While the driving parts were quite clunky in the first game, rather than fix it they've just completely removed driving in the sequel which seems like a bit of a cop-out. Instead, you choose your destination from a menu and just appear there. The jobs from the first game have been replaced by 8-bit style single screen minigames, and out of the two I've played so far I don't especially want to do either of them ever again - one was a "suck up the bugs using your hoover" Bomberman-style thing, and the other was a confusing version of Pipemania.

I've only had about an hour and a half on it so maybe things will pick up soon, but at the moment I'm genuinely half-debating whether I even want to play it for fear of tarnishing my fond memories of NMH1. It all seems half-finished, which is a massive massive shame because it should've been a total winner going by how good the first one was.

On a happier note, I had an email last night from Game to say my Mario pre-order had shipped (they said last week it would be done early "due to the high volume of pre-orders") and there was a card through the door this afternoon asking me to collect something from the sorting office, so it looks like I know how tomorrow is going to be spent!
