What does everyone think of the new dunk contest rules and set up?

From USA Today:

The NBA announced the participants for the 2014 Slam Dunk Contest on Thursday, and with it a new set of rules for the February 16 competition. In an attempt to shake up a contest that has grown stagnant in the last few years, the league has completely reinvented it

Anyone catch the celebrity game or the Rising Stars challenge last night? Hardaway Jr & Waiters having a battle was brilliant to watch:

Actually really enjoyed the celeb game too. Michael B Jordan's got some serious game!

Can't wait for the dunk contest, three point shoutout and the skills challenge tonight!

So what did everyone think of All Star Weekend? Some quick thoughts from me:

- I loved the game itself. Thought it was one of the best All Star games in a long time. Kyrie Irving was outstanding, as was LeBron with that crazy windmill jam. I desperately wanted to see either Durant or Griffin beat Chamberlain's scoring record too. Can't believe they came within 4 points.

- I really liked the new format of All Star Saturday. The team aspect really made the skills and 3 point challenge exciting! The dunk contest was good, but over way too quickly. I think that if at least ONE of the West team had won a round, it would have been better since it would have went on longer. I hope they allow this format to develop too. It's got potential.

- Michael B. Jordan's got some serious game!

- Even the pre-game & half time shows were great.

- I'd HIGHLY recommend the one hour LeBron James All Star Interview special that aired on NBA TV last night. I just watched it and it's very, very good!

Seen the highlights of the Friday/Sat stuff. All looked good fun! All Star game, I watched live in full, it was a fantastic fast paced game, hated the intros/half-time show but not my type of music so can appreciate that lots do. Some of the dunks where insane mind,

Anyone listen to the Double Clutch podcast? It's a UK-based NBA show that's available twice a week. Really, really good stuff. It's on iTunes etc and www.doubleclutchpodcast.co.uk

Here's the BT Sport line-up for the week. Some absolute crackers in there:

Really looking forward to the Heat/OKC and Rockets/Warriors double tomorrow. Clippers/OKC on Sunday at 6pm will be great too.

The Knicks fall again last night, this time to Memphis. I'm starting to lose hope now that they'll grab the 8th seed.

Can't believe you liked the new Dunk Contest, Art! It was terrible, the freestyle section will almost definitely be removed for next year, it was so bland and pointless. Which was a shame as there was actually a decent roster of dunkers, if they'd just have let them have a normal contest we could have seen something special. Wall's dunk was sweet though.

The Heat got their win back against the Thunder the other night, nothing newsworthy there, I fully expected them to win to level the season series and the fact that Westbrook has just returned. Nothing against Russell, but he's come back at the wrong time for me, KD was in the form of his life while he has been injured. Still, nothing matters till June. I still don't think the Heat will move past the Pacers in the East. The Pacers picking up Evan Turner was a great piece of business on Trade Deadline Day, giving up Danny Granger was a small price to pay. I've got to feel sorry for Granger though, he carried the team throughout the barren years, and then accepts his a role player now, only to be traded when the team look to be on the brink of a championship.

Don't get me wrong, the new format had some issues but I think if they can refine it and keep getting big names, it could be good. It was just over way too quickly.

Anyone catch the Clippers-OKC game on Sunday? What a thriller, OKC now 0-2 since Westbrook's return though.

What's your prediction for the final playoff standings?

I just don't get why Melo wants to stay in NYC. It's very much win now and there's no chance in hell they're making the playoffs. It's just been a straight up embarrassment for them this year. Melo is absolutely made for Chicago, at the very least he should listen to their offer in the off-season.

I could definitely see him in Chicago.

What about Miami? Lebron said recently that he'd love to help Melo in some way and is 'worried about him in New York'.

What did everyone think of LeBron's 61 point game?

Tyson Chandler says he's uncertain over his future with the Knicks. Which team would take him? He's had an awful season.

Anyone see Klay Thompson's game winner against the Pacers last night?

What do we think? Will the Heat catch the 1 seed in the East?

Oh, and the new ESPN NBA Countdown intro is simply brilliant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkLz1aK4coE I'm a big fan of Bill Simmons & Jalen Rose.

For the Heat to sign Melo he would have take the minimum salary or get rid of Bosh and Wade and ask Lebron to not ask for top dollar. It's almost impossible. You'd be more likely looking at scenario where Lebron leaves Miami to go to NY.

Lebron's 61 point game was huge. They may very well catch the Pacers, but I still maintain the Pacers will end the Heat's run in Eastern Conference Finals.

Me and a mate of mine are off to Miami for a fortnight over Easter. We have got tickets for Heat-76ers, I'm a causal basketball fan at best, but looking forward to the experience. Anyone got any advice, dos and don'ts, hints or tips for going to a NBA game?

Also seeing Miami Marlins the day before so say question for that really?

Just turn up for the start of the game. Miami fans are notorious for not taking their seats until late the second half of games, lol.

Umm, just follow what's happening in the league and with the team so you get more involved. Read up on the rules of the game, if you are unfamiliar and just have fun. Live NBA is awesome, you'll have a blast! It probably won't be the most competitive game since the 76ers are awful this season, but you should get to see LeBron James doing his thing in spectacular fashion.
