  1. Just recently got into broadening out my podcasts after smashing through true crime ones (In the Dark being the best).

Hoping for UKFFs help! As a background, only interested in 96-99 WWF and 97-end of ECW. Not really watched anything since apart from random stuff that gets recommended on here, not got the Network either. Also, I haven't really watched any of those years since so only have a 'headline' memory!

    After going through this thread, I started with Something to Wrestle With and have done;

Montreal Screwjob - found it fascinating when Prichard was in gorilla and Taker stood outside McMahons office after the main event as a bodyguard as such until it kicked off.
Brawl For All - forgot about all the injuries that affected the bracket, Bruce saying this was by far Russo's worst idea.
Radicalz jump - can't remember much from this one tbh, forgot Eddie broke his arm, Bruce had high hopes for Saturn which didn't turn out.
WWF/ECW 96-97 - crazy how Triple H and Undertaker offered to go to ECW when they were talent trading
Pillman - didn't know the majority of this, fascinated how he played WCW into letting him go, WWF sign him, send him to ECW etc.
Sunny - reading her book extracts wasn't necessary (detail about Shawn)!
97 Rumble/WM 15- I don't remember specific events and they tend to go into crazy detail like attendance etc, will stick to to the pods about people as opposed to PPVs
lovetoknow - As mentioned on here, Bruce plays very safe on majority of answers
Russo in WWF - one of my faves so far, loved the detail on backstage meetings and how it all works
Rock 97/98 - enjoyed it as goes through the time I was most into wrestling so massively nostalgic. Will watch Slam 97 and Series 98 matches soon.
Just finishing New Age Outlaws now - similar to above but nothing much revealed.

    In the queue:
Bret 96/97, Raw when WWF finally took over ratings, RVD, Sable, Foley wins the title, Austin's 97, Austin 98/99, Roast of Prichard, Taz.

Any others from STWW I need to check out from those years?

From memory, stuff I found interesting (you lot will already know all this)
Sid taking over Vader's main event programme with Shawn in 96/97. Russo claiming he planted the idea of they way they screwed Bret in Montreal with Vince. Them actually having hope that Bart Gunn could do something against Butterbean. Radicalz saying they wanted something for Benoit at least if there's no interest in the other three.

Rambling on now but I do like to find out the 'backstage' stuff more than anything, and alternate plans for how things turned out, and from reading the thread the below have been recommended, which should I go for next?

    Squared Circle Gazette
    Austin's Podcast(s)
    Talk is Jericho
    Wrestle me
    Letters from kayfabe
    Attitude era
    Keepin' It 100
    Killing the Town
    The Brand
    83 weeks
    Grilling JR

Also saw that Conrad and Gertner announced something for ECW but I can't find it - did it never come about?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm the total opposite. Thought Grimes' promo with it's 'top of the top of the bottom Cameron Grimes bottom bottom top of the bottomCameronGrimestop top bottom Cameron Grimes' was almost Michael McGillicutty levels of bad, and that Myles came off completely nondescript, unmemorable and, to be honest, a bit worthless (I know the 'real' objective of the Breakout Tournament was to get a load of new faces on TV but when the winner of it gets decisively beaten in his 'prize' match then it just means that even the best one out of that 8's nowhere near the level of the actual stars.) I was hoping after their segment earlier in the episode that Keith Lee might come in afterwards and beat down Myles for wasting the title shot that Lee's never had, but nah, Adam Cole wins, the end. Not a great episode, although Bianca Belair looked ace.

Yeh the Lee beatdown is a good shout.

Also, some awful moments with Mauro and McGuiness just shouting over each other. Unbearable.

For me that spot is not so much stupid, but reckless & dangerous. As you say, Mike Syndall is completely unprotected having his head being driven into the mat with the momentum of Spyral's whole body weight behind it. The fact that Syndall was 'trapped' into taking the move makes it worse as no wrestler with an IQ above 70 is going to be willing to be at the receiving end of that move, and that the "only" injuries he suffered from were a broken thumb, getting knocked out and a concussion was a little fortunate - that move could have legit broken Syndall's neck or cause head injuries akin to a car crash and killed him. As for Spyral himself it's lucky for him that he was able to get all the momentum in that move to effectively carry the weight of two people as had he not been able to, he'd have been in trouble himself. Anyway, the bitch called Karma (no relation to Awsome Kong) eventually met him.

Also for the mention of the Irish Whip, the only time I've seen the move as having legitimacy as a believable manoeuvre in the ring was when Bret Hart would take it, being flung front first into the turnbuckles, no landing it turning around before hitting the corner. The way Hart took it would make it look that it would knock the wind out of you. It's also a bit more believable in areas surrounding the ring where competitors are often whipped front-first into the steel steps, occasionally the barricade (and often going over them with the momentum), a third person holding an inanimate object like a belt or the ring bell etc. Otherwise, yeah that gif of Santino mocking the Irish Whip into the ropes does say a bit.

Didn’t realise Spyral was quadriplegic from a 630 leg drop gone wrong in practise and died

The Moonsault Styles Clash is bad because Mike Sydal didn't want to take it but Spyral did it anyway. It knocked him out, gave him a serious concussion, broke his thumb and put him on the shelf for a while.

Another guy in the match, Devon Moore, was selling on the outside and all he could hear was Mike repeatedly saying "No no no, don't do it!".

Spyral was put in a wheelchair a few years later after landing badly on a 630 and then died soon after.

Man, the board is depressing today.

Awful spot, absolutely horrendous and much worse given the background/insight

Luke Harper vs Dominik Dijakovic from that Worlds Collide show was a fun little heavyweight match. Great to see Harper back and getting over as a babyface. It'll break my heart if they stick him back with Bray Wyatt.

He requested his release today 🤷🏻‍♂️

  6. Loved the tag and Riddle/Dream matches!

Riddle needs to continue to slowly but surely be a smug wanker and he’ll be a top heel. Like when he stepped in the ring and stroked his six pack for example.

First I’ve seen of Walter, looks the part and can’t see him being in NXT UK for long. Read that he’s on a temp contract tho as doesn’t want the travel? Shame if so.

Unsure on Dunne and his next step, has to be NXT full time before the main show though.

Big fan of Cole and wanted him to win the belt, hopefully he wins the rematch when Gargano moves up full time.

Not a clue on Kushida either, any good?

  7. Just watched last 4 eps back to back. Was shocked at Ciampa announcement and made sense for Cole or Riddle to win the 5 man as the others have already left and Dream has a belt. Loved Cole screaming at the ref whilst making the count.

Forgotten Sons arent great, guessing when they lose Gunner will freak and ditch em.

    Lookkng forward to Lee/Divok rematch!

Trent needs to trim up, looks terrible, what happened to their finisher where he just kind of collapsed?

looking forward to Cole winning the belt 👍

  8. I’m another who only watches NXT now but keep an eye on headlines/results on the main shows. Used to pay a lot more attention back in the day so had heard of Roode/Roderick and a few others but not a clue who Lee, Cole, Fish, O’Reilly, Divokovic, Gargano, Ciampa, Ricochet, Black etc were.

Also what is the Ibushi/Ospreay camera angle thing referred to a few pages back?

Agreed. The Leftovers ending was absolutely sublime and the best TV I've watched in years. It makes me dream of a world where Lost was made on HBO with 12 episode seasons. After going off Damon Lindelof after the terrible final season of Lost and Prometheus I now can't wait to see what he does next.

Agreed, loved the leftovers and it's crazy tangents. Final scene with Nora and Kevin is up there with the best of them.

Need a new show now! Any recommendations?

  11. Just watched that interview with the ECW crew. Really, really enjoyed it. You could listen to their stories for hours. Taz was quite awkward throughout but it didn't take anything away from it. Well worth watching.

Just watched it, some cool stories.

What happened with Dreamer and Heyman? Dreamer said not as close as he'd like for one reason or another. Bubba didn't look at Dreamer throughout Dreamers speech at the end either.

Could listen to em all talk about it for hours
