^ I love that FF song - the whole album/EP is boss, but that's my faveat the risk of offending all the SHOEGAZING and MATHROCK whatever in this thread, my song of the day is...dead prez - Police StateI dunno how to upload it, but it's easy enough to get off limewire.tend to hate rap that gets political and takes itself too seriously (fuck offfffff Nas), but it works here.

saw two cop films recently...> > > Miami Vicethis got critical acclaim for not going for stereotype pastel shirts and cheesy 80s synthpop - but that's why I didn't like it. I guess it's a pretty smart police flick or whatever... but I *wanted* A Flock Of Seagulls playing as Jamie Foxx went past in a pink Armani jacket. It just bored me, and seemed a waste of the title.> > > The DepartedHow did this win an Oscar? Seriously. There's a lot good here - some of the scenes pull things together really well (sorry for the movie critic speak), like the one where Queenan dies. But so much is just shite. What's with all the fancy camerwork? It wasn't til after the film that I realised the Ray Winstone character wasn't the same guy who played Morrie in Goodfellas, so I couldn't really take him seriously. We're never really introduced to the main characters - I still don't know Matt Damon's name in the film - and can anyone really see Damon as some sort of cool, breezey charmer? The twists were so bang-on it was unreal.again, there's a lot to like - I like how everyone is Irish-American (despite some dodgy accents ) and not knowing who's good and who's bad, but overall, a good story really poorly executeddon't really like to be so negative, but two disappointments for me

"Are you working on film studies coursework at the moment?" indeed, a lot of reviews from that guy read like a first year film student. And a none-too-bright one at that.Shyamalan is a glorified hack.anyway, I watched Pan's Labyrinth again this week. It really is lovely.I finally managed to see DogDay Afternoon, too. Really enjoyed it. blah blah blah counter-culture blah doesn't hold itself back blah blah thought-provoking yadda yadda multi-layered blah blah

re: UnbreakableM. Night Shyamalan and subtlety... that some sort of joke?

been through this thread and d/l'd a few tracks that caught my eye, or the write-up sounded good; thoughts...> > > Tom Waits - Step Right Upyeah, Tom Waits rules.> > > Malcolm Middleton - We're All Going To Diedidn't like this. Felt like it couldn't decide between upbeat happy tune and dark brooding dirge> > > Paper Wings by Rise AgainstSeemed like the mighty Husker Du put through an emo filter. Awful.> > > The Raveonettes - Ode to L.A.I'm liking this a lot. I love Lynch too, so figures.> > > Dropkick Murphys - Foreveryou're Irish, right? And you actually like the Dropkick Murphy... wtf? They annoy me, and I've only got Irish grandparents. Wasn't fond of Flogging Molly, either.> > > Jeremy Enigk: World Waits AND > > > The Fire Theft's Summertimegood for what they are (not meant as patronising as it comes across), but not really my thing> > > The Ataris - San Dimas High School Football Rules... and speaking of not my thing, I never thought I'd like this. In fact, the main reason I d/ld it was the vaguely cool title, but I loved it. Great post.> > > Lambchop - Paperback BibleI need this album> > > "Ballad of worms" by Cage not easy listening at all, and I'm still struggling to come to terms with the fact google seach revealed that he's whitethat's it for now, d/l'ing the new NIN atm, and I've got some more from the thread to give a listen. More thoughts when I do.oh, and ta to all people posting this stuff.

co-signed on the praise for Hellboy, and del Toro is indeed amazing, but there's something quite depressing about how predictable it was that the, um, cinemati were *always* going to go on about how his film was better than the Dark Knight. Cosmo Landesman is such a cunt.
