  1. I thought Inception was shit. Spoilers.... Paris folding over was cool, but why not include more of the mind-bending stuff in the earlier parts where the girl was training? That character was annoying as fuck - a proper busybody, and just waltzed out of class into half running the group. The actual mechanics of how she constructs a dream was totally omitted as well, but that's nit-picking I guess. Overkill on the endless layers of subconscious as well - it wasn't hard to follow, it just got tedious after a while. I dunno, I've given people shit for over-analyzing films and being too negative, but I just know that by the end I wasn't rooting for them to get it done, I just wanted them to hurry up and finish. Big let down, considering I really liked the Batman films and Memento.

  2. miss this thread

    'Let it Loose'

Exile on Main St. is usually considered best album by the Stones. I agree, but sometimes I'm surprised that there seems to be a near-consensus about it. Then I hear that song, and yeahhhhhh, it alone makes it their best album.

er, I'll post more than one, as I am not working tomorrow

Pet Sounds in the Key of Dee. BOOM.

  3. everyone is wasting there time with hardcore_harry - he's been backtracking away from the fact he's a dirty BNP-supporter for the past year or so. But he still snidely agrees with loads of what they say, and brings them up at any opportunity, but is not, in fact, a vile nazi twat in any way. Obviously.

  4. no massive Scorcese fan but calling Taxi Driver (mohawk, Harvey mothafuckapimpa Keitel, one big dream sequence, child prostitutes inspiring would-be assassins et al) "overrated shite" is typical Seven contrarian, film studies nonsense, with Soilent Green as the earnest, chubby little Robin in his wake. Lame.

  5. SharkWrestling - what bullshit.

patdfb - there's a difference between openly bullying a kid and not giving them the attention and support they need.

it's a bit of a slippery slope I know, but I disagree that teachers are moderated *that* much. They might be assessed a lot, but it's not as though every piece of homework is double-marked. Don't really wanna get into a debate about BNP / policies, and I am fully aware many BNP members might be more than capable of separating their private and professional lives, but like I say, it's not something I feel too comfortable about. Hmm, bit of a grey area, real head-scratcher.....

  6. my gf got me an amazing (and unusually thoughtful) gift - first ed. of Last Exit to Brooklyn. Not usually into that type of thing, but still amazing and v unexpected.

I don't want to touch it because it's in great nick - but I might find my other copy and read that in celebration.

oh, and I'm reading Heidegger's Being and Time for uni. Challenging, interesting and rewarding, but like wading through treacle. Fucking Germans!

  7. ahaha, I'm just clicking chapters and scrolling at random. Daleks and the Loch Ness monster have made appearances so far.

    best procrastination ever

EDIT - Van Helsing, Atlantis, Frankenstein, adamantium (which might be real but I'm pretty sure it's just a Spiderman or whatever thing)...

EDIT - Dracula (don't think he's the same as the character 'Vampira' but someone who's read it properly might correct me), Predators, King Kong

“I’ve always wanted to test myself against the best!” said the man. “So I could prove that I was the best!”

    ......... something's....... nor right there.

  8. I love how superheroes talk

"Mr. X! Ace Kid! Star Man and Lightning Kid!", she shouted. "What the bloody hell are they doing here?"

    -----

Axe Kid ran towards him, somersaulted, and booted him in the face.

    -----

"What the bloody hell is happening?", shouted Jet. "Two months since the Black Squadron were last seen in Switzerland! Not a bloody dicky-bird from them!"

    -------

"Enough to created a whole army of neo-mutants.", said Star Man. "Or one whopping great big one!"

"Yeah.", said Solo. "And that old factory in the east end was left yonks ago!"

....... I probably shouldn't have found this when I've got an exam tomorrow

    :(

  9. District 9 starts great but pretty much as soon as *spoilers* he escapes the lab, it's a piece of shit. It's a shame, because I was really hooked by the first forty minutes or so.

Inglourious Basterds was a lot of fun. I was expecting - and would have, I think, preferred - more focus on the Basterds and their skylarks around Nazi France. Still good times.

Breathless. I watched this a few years ago, and loved it. I went back to it this week, hoping I hadn't just been caught up in watching one of my first 'proper' foreign films. I still loved it.

    :)

Paradise Lost I and II. Already discussed this is the docs thread. I hearts Confederates.

No Country For Old Men. Inspired by the lame reaction to someone saying it wasn't so great. I enjoyed it. Javier Bardem was fantastic as an ugly bad guy. There needs to be more uncool dickheads in films. It's not the five snowflakes fapfest everyone here had such a fucking hardon about though. It's a good film, but Tommy Lee Jones' character is pretty much redundant, and his story is so clearly shoehorned in to fit the title (and, I assume, the book). There wasn't enough time to develop it, so it just came off awakward and glued on to me.

Jacob's Ladder. Again from mentions on here. Excellent.

I have the Devil's Backbone, the Damned United and...... something else I can't remember....... to watch this week.
