  1. Despite the name, Sport England's mission statement is set to cover sports & physical activity. I obviously don't know their reasoning for blocking wrestling from joining the MAC, but with the MAC already providing guidance & assistance it feels like it'd be a good thing for the industry to be allowed to formalise that relationship.

  2. As someone whose job is now running a YouTube channel (for a gamedev studio) a lot of the editing format comes from holding attention with a minimal setup. A lot of the time we're working with a single camera, and need to hold attention on a single person talking for upwards of 8 minutes (formerly 10 minutes, the threshold for midroll ads just changed). That means utilising jump cuts, flashbacks, inserts, and zooms to make something that is inherently flat feel dynamic and keep a generally younger audience engaged.

WWE emulating that style, if that's what they're trying to do, is misunderstanding the reasoning for doing it. They have something that's visually appealing, that inherently holds your attention.Ā Camera cuts there should be used to heighten emotion with close-ups on faces, or to switch to angles that make a move feel more impactful (something I loved about Lucha Underground's edits)

Is Enzo an exception to the latter? Not that I'm clamouring to see him again, mind...

My understanding there was that his punishment wasn't for the criminal investigation, but for lying about not being under a criminal investigation to corporate when he knew he was

  4. Yeah, CPS come down hard on anyone who may end up ID'ing the complainant - including on social media.

From the sounds of it, someone in the media has fucked up and they now can't name the MP without potentially outing the complainant.

  5. It's also a different time in the business. They've got an absolute boatload of guys under contract, unless you're a headliner, you're expendable. There's no way that doesn't breed this 'publicly joyous, happy to be here' attitude as a way to keep yourself in the good books.

If Ricochet rocks the boat there's no reason to believe he wouldn'tĀ find himself out on his arse right quick.

  6. Cena's so good at those. When I had to make a video for Make A Wish (I work on a kids game and they wanted some messages of support during the pandemic) I just sat and watched an hour of his appearances back to back to get an idea of where to even start. Impossible not to get choked up watching.

  7. One thing that makes me uncomfortable, when we talk about 'erasing' old media is that we live under capitalism - putting a disclaimer in front of it when you're selling DVDs or putting it up on your streaming service doesn't erase the fact that you're profiting from it.

  8. I've been lucky enough to have ring announced Drew McIntyre, Chris Hero, Drew Gulak &Ā Davey Richards in my time.

I wasĀ in charge of teaching the basics at FutureShock the day Jack Gallagher started training (and consequently enjoy claiming "I taught that lad to bump" every time he's on TV).

I brought Fight Club: Pro to the NEC (Until recently I was in charge of stage & evening content for the Insomnia Gaming Festival, and made the initial approach to Fight Club about coming in and running the NEC. It was bloody awesome, and one of my favourite memories from that job).

Thereā€™s also been the developmentĀ of ā€œREEEEEEEEā€ (imagine the cry of a distressed pig)Ā being used when describing ā€˜dem wansā€™, basically describing the reaction of that type of folk that flip out if you disagree with their opinion, which is completely rightĀ and if you dare disagree with it,Ā youā€™reĀ a nonce.

I canā€™t remember whose been using on here, and Iā€™m not having a go at them either as again, most posters on here are rational,Ā but itā€™s just something Iā€™ve noticed.

To chime in, "REEEE" is commonly used on reddit and some sections of Twitter as a depiction of someone being incapable of handling their emotional reaction to hearing or seeing something they don't likeĀ and is also referred toĀ as 'autistic screeching'. I'd expect better of the majority of posters on this forum.

  10. That's a horrendous situation, sorry to hear that Neil.

Our own situation just got worse (though nowhere near that level, thankfully). My wife switched jobs in February, and so doesn't qualify for the government wage covering scheme, and they've let her go because of that - and being an American here on a spouse visa she can't go on Universal Credit either. In the short term we'll skate by, but in the long-term I'm scared this could end up with us not being able to afford her staying here etc.

  11. I switched careers last month, moving from working in events to now working as a video producer for an American games company and bloody hell what perfect timing that was to getting out.

Every event we'd been working on for the next six months has been cancelled, and I can't see a way that doesn't lead to redundancies as the company had been on the tightest of margins to begin with

  12. Is anyone calling for him to come in and have a huge run on top though? Most of the suggestions have been for him to come in and fuck around with The Dark Order who are firmly a midcard act. He's got a strong creative mind, regardless of if you like his ideas or not he commits to them in a way a few of the AEW midcard could do with learning from and the familiar face would give a boost to a seemingly floundering Dark Order at the same time.

Loved the attack by GYV, honestly didnā€™t expect it and I really hope theyā€™re staying rather than slumming it on NXT UK with the no hopers.

They did a bunch of farewell stuff in a few UK promotions, seems like they're moving out to Florida at least for a while if not permanently

  14. I've always liked ZSJ's NJPW promo stuff, mostly because it's always come across fairly believably as a 'knackered athlete post-exertion'. He sounds like I'd expect someone to sound just trying to talk about things off the top of their head after an exhausting wrestling match.

Not everything lands, but NJPW do them so often that only one in every four or five has to do well enough that it works for them. If he was stood in the ring delivering a five minute promo it'd feel flat in a way this doesn't.

  15. Coming from a live event manager point of view, if someone employed by me did something like that unplanned I'd be fucking livid with them. With what I've seen of PROGRESS they normally have a bunch of local crew in white PROGRESS shirts knocking about, so if something like that was planned and they didn't want the wrestlers talking directly to the crowd, then surely you key them into it to move/protect crowd members before the thing happens.

If a crowd member ended up getting injured because of Eaver winging OJMO into the crowd (or in my case, someone doing an unplanned stage dive into the crowd) that could cause a lot of shit in terms of negative attention and either cost a shitload of money or cause your PLI premiums to shoot up. None of which you realistically want to happen.

  16. I'm essentially doing this right now, after attempting to reduce my hours due to feeling stagnated by my workload I instead agreed with my manager that I would work from home on Friday and use it as a skills day. So instead of doing my regularly scheduled job I'm instead free to pursue my interests so long as they're generally related to improving at my job. It's not identical, but it's what I'd use that day for anyway as I'm feeling more confident as a result and like I'm growing, and if anything my productivity has gone up with the added focus and feeling better about the work I'm doing

  17. After a conversation about who had seen boobs, my cousin told me he had taped a show where one of the women had got their tits out, and I was 12 so I headed over to his to watch. When we got there we went through a few tapes before not finding it, so he showed me the Summerslam TLC match and form that moment I thought Jeff Hardy was the coolest person in the world ever
