Any news on whether Virgin are carrying ElevenSports and packaging in with BT as one of their bundles?. I'm not really into streaming video so an alternative option to watch on normal TV so to speak would be more appealing. Not surprised the PPVs will be actual pay per view even if it's just Conor's fights. Would be better if the UFC on BT coverage ends when Eleven begins because after December 3 there's quite a few shows and a PPV coming up. I'd imagine BT are losing Cage Warriors too since it's part of UFC Fight Pass.

Neither Virgin or Sky are carrying it.

Is it just me or is that worded to exclude PPVs?

Yeah it's very carefully worded. It basically means that everything will be on Eleven - even some PPVs, but they can choose to sell some (probably the huge fights) to other companies (ie, Sky and Virgin on Box Office) instead of showing it themselves.

Christmas day looks like it's gonna be a lot of fun, Philly/Boston & Lakers/Warriors the highlights for me.

Yup! I'll of course need to watch my Knicks get destroyed just after I've had my Christmas dinner too. 😂

Jazz @ Blazers is an odd choice for Christmas Day. It'll be a great game most likely, but I was fully expecting Raptors @ Spurs.

  4. Since it's the off season and there's not much news to talk about right now...what is everyone's favourite basketball movies?

I watched White Men Can't Jump at the weekend again. I've seen it countless times, but I still absolutely love it. That whole 20 minute opening scene is just amazing. The setting, music, trash talk...I love everything about it.

Ok cheers Art, so can we sign up on August 9th then ?

Probably before, I’d imagine. The service launches on the 9th. Who knows...they’re playing it all very quietly at the moment.

Any idea on pricing plans for Eleven Sports in the UK, I just. went on there website and couldn't find where to sign up.

You can’t sign up yet. Pricing hasn’t been released but rumours and leaked screenshots from their site showed £8 per month.

Cheers for that, will give it a look. The NBA finals are playoffs arent included from what I've read if they are nationally televised and it's just audio streams.

That only applies to the US. In the UK, absolutely everything is on League Pass. There's no restrictions. It's how I watch the league every season.

IMG, their production partner, announced there’d be 2 linear channels a few weeks ago, which Eleven rowed back on.

They’ll have channels. The U.K. market isn’t there yet for an all streaming service.

I think UFC and NBA are great adds for them, moreso than foreign football, because there’s no credible British alternative. The U.K. is quite a myopic market that simply doesn’t watch non-native content in great numbers. Without EPL/EFL, theyre never going to be a mainstream prop but they’ve set themselves up nicely as a solid niche channel.

The only concern for them is, the pool of people who don’t value football more than niche sports is quite low. So you might have UFC fans who want to stay with Sky Sports and BT: the question is then, how many will be willing to add the extra subscription to their bundle?

They could do carrier deals with Sky, perhaps, where they’re folded in with Sky’s package and sky reimburse them directly: but for that to happen Sky would need to be concerned about customers churning to Eleven. Don’t see it.

So, breaking out from the niche space is going to be super, super hard. It’ll be interesting to see how they maintain quality. Time and time again, you see sports channels launch and watch their production quality suffer as they struggle to raise funds. It’s another reason NBA and UFC are solid adds, even if they potentially won’t be huge acquisition drivers - they’re beautifully produced feeds at no extra cost.

It'll be interesting to see how the NBA works a deal with them, if they do agree to one. I already have NBA's own League Pass, which is amazing. Every game live and on-demand in HD. Plus condensed versions of each game the next day. Plus access to the 24/7 NBA TV channel and it's on pretty much every device. I don't see why you'd give Eleven Sports money for NBA when there's a better option already there. Unless of course, you want it for more than just one sport.

Wait, no channel? That's a bit shit. I sound like an old cunt and I don't care. I don't want to be fucking around with streams and apps at 3 o'clock in the morning.

Aye. They've said that they 'are open' to negotiating regarding a TV channel on Sky, Virgin etc but it's all about streaming. They've basically said they'll have their app on pretty much every device, like Netflix.

That's disappointing. I don't have League Pass so was watching games on BT. Eleven Sports are favorites to land the new NBA TV rights, unless Sky Sports get involved. I believe the NBA made $6 Billion last year so they are having a resurgence in popularity. Ideally when you have the UK games you want as many people as possible to see it. I can't see BBC, ITV, Channel 4 & 5 bidding for the rights but they need a presence on UK TV to keep growing the fanbase again. I think Channel 4 had a highlights show in the 90s so a similar one today would be good too. As for League Pass are any games region locked or is that just applicable for the US?

Nothing is region locked or blacked out in the UK on League Pass. Plus you get the 24/7 NBA TV channel.

It will be interesting to see how it works if Eleven do get it. It’s an online streaming service rather than a channel, so I don’t see why you’d opt for that over League Pass if you’re only interested in the NBA.
