Whedon isn't actually the director, though. Everyone just thinks he is.

IT REINVENTS AND DECONSTRUCTS HORROR AT THE SAME TIME!

(except it doesn't)

This is on Netflix. One of these nights, I'll give in to it.

Overrated it certainly is, but this fan art is sweet:

Great tagline or greatest tagline?

Fuck Bill Murray. He's been useless ever since he went grey and arthouse.
-
It's a mess, but I enjoyed its short length and Mathieu Almaric's hysterical fighting style at the end of the movie.

You probably won't like Quantum of Solace.

It was touched upon in the 'minor news items' thread, but I've always wondered what the story is with WWE-sponsored rehab. Essentially, why do WWE pay for the rehab of so many wrestlers who aren't on their books? I'm sure I've read recently about the likes of Maven, Sunny and many others, some of whom even fell foul of the company, having their rehab paid for by WWE. Plus, it's not like they're cleaning these guys up with a view to bring them back, so why do they shell out? Guilt? Obligation? It's not like they plaster it all over their website for PR.

Absolutely disgusting.

You read the Daily Mail?

Breaking Bad continues to be amazing, despite moving the plot forward at a glacial pace. That's not a criticism, though. I'm struggling to think of another show in recent times aside from The Wire, Deadwood and The Shield where I've enjoyed spending as much time in its skin as this. The writing is maddeningly good and the 47-minute long episodes drift by in no time at all. It's become boring to say how great everyone involved in Breaking Bad is, and predictable that you're going to get perfection each and every time. Even the occasional on the nose moment works, because of how tight things are.

A live show always has a better flow and there's a sense that something unplanned might happen.

Like Bruce Pritchard emerging from a side door into an ongoing promo.

I think he means that it was a little bit ostentatious.

In a James Bond movie.

Die Another Day is the ultimate great bad Bond movie. It's off the fucking wall. Highlights include:
Â
- Bond with Charles Manson beard
- Korean albino with diamonds in his face
- Invisible car
- Bizarre, impromptu near-fight to the death in the fencing club
- Robot suit with power death glove
- The gorgeous Rosamund Pike
- The worst CGI you'll ever see in a big budget movie when Bond "para-surfs" his way out of trouble
- Possibly the worst dialogue in any Bond flick
- Michael Madsen almost literally sleepwalking his way through the most pointless role in the series
Â
It's horrific, but you can't hate on it. It's funny too that Brosnan was shocked that he was dumped after this.
Â
As for Repo Men, it's utter dross, so no great shock that Richie thinks it's some misunderstood gem.
-
Funny you should mention that, as I watched it with a decent set of headphones on as it was quite late, and I can't imagine watching it any other way. The sound mix in the film is exceptional.

The Grey
Â
Strong contender for film of the year. The marketing sold a completely different film, which is fine, considering this is one of the most draining and affecting things to come along for quite some time. Frankly, I didn't think Joe Carnahan had it in him. Sure, Narc was great but he's been squandering that goodwill ever since. Here, his direction is superb. Even the one or two iffy moments don't detract from proceedings. The film, of course, has almost a slasher film structure, as Neeson's group is gradually whittled down, but you feel each and every one of their exits, regardless of how long their character has been onscreen. The acting, all round, is perfect. Dallas Roberts, Dermot Mulroney and Frank Grillo in particular flesh out what could easily have been one-note cliches in the hands of other actors. But, it's all about Liam Neeson. Forget the OTT heroics of Taken and the memes that surrounded this film upon the release of its trailers. It's an absolutely incredible performance, one laced with an extra level of poignancy given the heartbreaking similarties the actor shares with his character.
Â
The ending seems to have provoked a good deal of irritation among viewers. Personally, I thought it was perfect.

Yeah, saw it right before a screening of TDKR a day after the shootings. Unfortunate timing, but if they take the sequence out of the film, it's a pathetic reaction. Cinema shouldn't bow before the actions of a madman.

For "obvious reasons" read "bullshit overreaction".

What time you throwing the doors open, Butch?

Sick burn. Someone check on herbie.

Any other reason to post all those quotes bar causing unnecessary reading for Ricky, Seven? ...though Twitter was pretty much the same.
Â
I enjoyed it, Ricky came across as a top bloke, fair play.
Â
Just thought it was interesting to see what a non-rasslin' forum thought. I personally thought Ricky came across as a nice bloke with a huge heart and I wish his family all the best.

Every single one of those fellas has slung it up the youngest, guaranteed.Â
'Paige' as she's now known is hawt, in a chavvy kind of way.Â
She'll be doing porn in 5 yearsÂ
The daughter can give me a crippler crossface me any timeÂ
He just said to her 'your nipples are hard' whilst getting poked with themÂ
The brother REALLY wants to knob her... though I can't blame him.Â
we know why she's so tough now - it was fighting off all the potential rapingsÂ
Anyone who's paid attention to the local papers around here the last few years knows this family is f**king weird. The daughter is worth slinging one up though.Â
It's the Norfolk version of a famous musical....Â
One Bride for Seven Brothers

Zak has been arrested more times than I've had hot dinners, mainly because he likes to drink a lot and either drive or start real fights. I presume this is coming across in the show tbh.Â
And this, frankly amazing, photograph:

Nothing wrong with that. I've got a soft spot for Keanu. In fact, it kind of made me wish he was playing the role instead of JGL (who I do like).
What have you been watching on (proper scripted) telly?

Given my discontent for all things Deschanel, New Girl was probably never going to work for me. I've caught a handful of episode and it's pleasant enough sitcom-by-numbers but there's nothing here that elevates it in the way you're suggesting. Sure, it's streets ahead of dreck like 2 Broke Girls and Whitney but that's more an indictment of those shows than praise for NG.
Â
Are you going to finish off your songs thread, btw?
