  1. HeathersA supberb dark, sickly comedy about high school, popularity and society. The script is the films winner with great lines throughout which just melt into the heart of the film through whatever aesthetic features are on the picture screen. I didn't quite find myself fully committed to the characters or the story (maybe because I watched it in 2 sittings) but its sharpness and darkness pulled through overwhelmingly. The performances on a whole are standard (HOOCH from Scrubs has a line or two!) but Winona Ryder and Christian Slater are perfect casting for this flick, they have a chemistry with each other and it's clear to see a relation to their individual characters too.Sickly black and highly enjoyable.

  2. Hard Candy - hoolllly shit! this was intense. Again his is off an accquired taste, props go out to the two actors involved who are both f'n superb, the line between right and wrong is blurred in this movie. If you're into revenge movies, get this now! Brutal!

I just recently watched this too, and I did feel the intensity but I didn't feel anything else, it was a decent enough concept and told it's story effective enough but there was just not enough within the film itself (I couldn't pin it down whether it was story, structure, direction, execution or whatever) but there was something which left me very empty about the film.
  3. I wouldn't say interviewing is the right word. He's a guest speaker for my Media Writing lecture and it's a Q&A session for a couple of hours and I'm going to be right at the front and shake his hand afterwards. A surprising number of people had no idea who he was.I might try and get him to do a soundbite for our student radio show too.

  4. Saw IIIWorse than Hostel. Possibly. That's quite a feat really. I wouldn't have minded a blow-torch to the eyeballs during this pile of turd. I like it when films don't take themselves too seriously, and especially with the Horror genre it either comes off good or bad. This took itself seriously and came off shit. They should have taken some hints from the hilarious Final Destination 3 and made it ludicrously funny. But this was not scary, no atmosphere, no care was put into the characters or the story. I still had a decent time seeing it with a bunch of mates, 6 cans of beer down me and a 12 o'clock screening, but film wise, shit.

  5. The DepartedCaught this last night at the cinema and it's one of the best films I've seen in that environment for a long while, the whole film was ruled by the performances of Jack Nicholson, Leo Di Caprio and Mark Wahlberg, they made the film and the usually decent Matt Damon looked less than decent amongst those three and Leo's turning into a very good and capable leading man and actor. The whole story was so engrossing from the beginning to end and there was never a dull moment whilst the final 20 minutes or so got a little out of hand but I was very with it and believed in it none-the-less. Scorsese's trademarks are not over this movie in the directorial sense but it's still a Scorsese film in the mood and themes that it posseses. Absolutely loved every second of it.

  6. LayercakeSecond time I'd watched it and it had lost a lot of it's appeal on a repeat viewing. The story became more exposed on a second viewing as having plenty of holes and "what the fucks" in them, the acting was pretty good though, with Michael Gambon being the best don gangster boss they could have gotten, it's all in his voice, and Daniel Craig did a decent job in the lead with an interesting character, but could have and should have made more of it.It's let down by the story, but it had some very beautiful set pieces and made London seem like a cool place to shoot films without a Beefeater in sight. Could have been better, but still enjoyable.

  7. I want to see Little Miss Sunshine as Mr. Seven's film recommendations haven't let me down so far at all (Oldboy being the standout, and I may be able to watch Blade Runner some time this week!) and it's wrangled it's way into the Top 250 on IMDB already, is it deserved? Also, what are people's thought on IMDB and it's Top 250? Is it really reflective of what the best films are?

  8. ClickWhat the fuck is Kate Beckinsale's deal? She was awful in this, just awful. What was the point of her even being with him, they showed no love or relationship at all throughout.

Nail on head.I absolutely cannot stand that bint, she has been consistently abysmal in everything she's ever been in. She is, for the 2000s, what Andie McDowell was in the 90s. Shite.
I watched about 30 minutes of Underworld last night too, why I did that I don't know.Watched Saw again, not as good the second time round and I also watched Hard Candy today. Hard Candy was very empty.
  9. The King of ComedyStill can't quite work this out, it hasn't really got a discernable genre, it doesn't feel like a Martin Scorsese film, it's got some very strange moments in and very strange characters, but I was constantly intrigued. I didn't enjoy it that much, more puzzled and interested in what they were trying to say with this film. There's no explanations for any actions and no backstory on any of the characters and this was all a bit jarring on a first time viewing, but I think I may need to give it another watch in a few weeks/months just to get my bearings for it.

  10. Play it again, SamWoody Allen again delivers, I just love his writing and although he didn't direct this, it's still Woody Allen's film. The story is simple yet real and effective (Woody falls for Diane Keaton who's married to his friend and they have an affair) and the chemistry between Allen and Keaton is electric. I'm so fond of this film even after just one viewing and can see it being a big favourite of mine after a couple more viewings. Real, funny and gives you characters that are interesting and rounded.

  11. Thank You For SmokingFunny, smart AND entertaining?!?!? I know, it doesn't happen often but this film had all of those aspects involved without ever getting preachy or annoying or over-indulgent, I loved Aaron Eckhart as the spokesman for cigarettes and this performance alone turned me around on him and the whole idea of spin and bullshit and lobbying was something which doesn't sound like it would make an interesting film, but the subject was carried off brilliantly by the Director and Writer and Son of Ghostbusters, Jason Reitman. Great stuff.

  12. ClickReally bad. I'm getting incresingly fed up of there being literally no characterisation in movies, why were we meant to be behind Adam Sandler in this movie? He was meant to be a 'good guy' who comes through in the end but all he had was a fantastic job at a young age, a hot wife and a lovely home, yet he constantly chose work over his family. How is that a good guy? That's just a prick who we feel jealous over. There was very little humour in it and Walken and Hasselhoff are the only watchable things in this awful movie. What the fuck is Kate Beckinsale's deal? She was awful in this, just awful. What was the point of her even being with him, they showed no love or relationship at all throughout. The idea's shit too and I was even more pissed off with the ending. Fucking crap.

  13. Coach CarterI thought this one was brilliant, as most Samuel L Jackson films are. It had a 'Dangerous Minds' feel to it, and the story was different to your usual 'underdog team becomes the best' plot.

I watched this the other day again too, and I thought it was so horribly predictable, could Samuel L Jackson not say ANYTHING normal in the whole film? Everything he said was 'inspirational' in some way, fucking annoying twas.

Truman ShowI finally got round to watching this. It was much better than I thought it would be! Nice lil film, and ended at just the right time. Could have been worse if they showed Carrey in the real world etc.

Carrey's best film in my opinion, and I think I prefer him in his comedic roles rather than his ZANY humour stuff (Dumb and Dumber is his best comedy film though)
  14. I think Brosnan will go down as a really excellent Bond, he's easily up there with Connery and it's always difficult after a good Bond to be the next generation Bond.Sean Bean would have been a bloody good Bond, but he was a bloody good villain in Goldeneye so it shall suffice.Daniel Craig doesn't excite me much...I'm not a huge Bond fan, but I likes what I likes.

  15. I watched Anchorman today for the second time.

I really hated it the first time I watched it (in the same way I hated Old School the first time I saw it) but the second time it just gave me plenty of pure, easy and fun laughs. I didn't like Christina Applegate one bit (why is it so difficult to find a good comedic actress?) but the male characters were all hilarious. I loved it this time around and am so enjoying the comedy landscape at the moment thanks to most of the guys involved in a film like this.

  16. Do they still do the top five rankings? Surely that gives reason to each match?

They've stopped the top 5 rankings. That was all boohockey anyway. They had the crappy contender's ring too and the petition thing, and they've tried in the past with the Field of Honor tournament (which I quite enjoyed), maybe they should bring that back.
  17. I am of the opinion that ROH DESPERATELY needs a third title. SO MANY matches in the promotion currently have no point whatsoever, because just looking at the wrestlers we know they're never going to hold the World Title, and the tag division by definition has a limited number of people who can go for it.

I agree. I hate the pointless matches, like the millions of Matt Sydal vs. Christopher Daniels matches and the random boring matches they seem to have in the first 2 or 3 matches on each show. They're pointless and I feel like an idiot for watching them and why am I watching them wrestle each other for no reason.
  18. Aww, bless. He sure knows how to work his target audience.Man, have you seen the new Jimmy Jacobs video? Edgecrusher has got to be pissed at the prospect of the Jacobs/Cabana feud...

It was adorable.I love Jimmy Jacobs and his EMO WARRIOR stuff is a million times better than HUSS. I'm looking forward to the feud and the potential matches between the two if they are kept relatively unimportant.
I'm not thoroughly thrilled with the idea of Jacobs/Cabana, but hey, at least it gets JJ on the show. I was beginning to think they were abandoning him.
Jacobs has been great recently, his matches vs. Whitmer were superb and he's totally underrated in the grand scheme of things in ROH.
It's more that he just doesn't fit in. He's a singles wrestler with no title to believably go for, no really appropriate enemy, and absolutely no tag team prospects. I really can't see what his prospects are, sadly.
True. As is the case with so many of those sort of guys on the ROH roster. Jimmy Rave could have done with a title run on his way, Davey Richards would be perfect for a secondary title too.Should they just reintroduce a secondary title and get rid of the Pure Title rules concept?I'm loving the idea of an Under-23 UK Unified belt, could ROH do with something similar for the BJ Whitmer's and Jimmy Jacobs' of the world?

  20. You're not one of those people who watches a shit movie only to be blown away by a tacked-on twist and then decides the overall movie was awesome are you?I hate those people.

Only on the best ones.I'll suffer through BECAUSE of the twist, but it won't make or break my opinion of the film. For example, every other Shymalan film is shit.
