  1. I've just had a bit of a WiiSports sesh with my family. We've never huddled around a games console and competitively played each other, the Wii is bringing families together. Good one Nintendo.

  2. Here's one from the soundtrack of the 2005 movie The Proposition. I don't know how to describe this song other than 'lonesome cowboy music', it's little more than a downbeat violin and piano piece but I really like it and would love to get my hands on more music like this, if anyone can hook me up with anything I'd be most grateful.Nick Cave & Warren Ellis - 'The Proposition #1'

From your description I was thinking I'd have a few things right up your alley of 'lonesome cowboy music', but from the sounds of the track it's very lyric bare, whereas the stuff I was thinking of maybe more 'lonesome old drunk music'. Stuff like your Tom Waits and your Nick Cave, if that might tickle your fancy I could sort you out.Anywho, how about some blues...Watt Wilfong - No Money Down Blues - The guy actually sounds like he's crying on this track, one of the most heartwrenching and purest songs I've ever heard.C.W. Stoneking - Handyman - This sounds like the first thing ever recorded to tape, but, alas it's not even American. Praise Australia for this one.
  3. I fucking love that National song. And that whole album. It's definitely a strong album of the year contender for me, as well.Gonna post a couple of tracks tonight. First, in dedication to the world's greatest twins with "psychopathic abilities", the title track from the new album from Tegan and Sara, some slightly less awesome twins from Canada:Tegan and Sara - The ConI could be wrong, but I don't think anyone's posted any Pavement in this thread yet. This is not accetable. For all the plaudits Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain and Wowee Zowee get, for my money Brighten the Corners is their best album. This is one of the many, many great tracks contained therein:Pavement - Embassy Row

I'm still LOVING the music taste Parkamarka. Our iTunes must be in sync with each other. However, my favourite Pavement song is Here. So There.
  4. Rather then some of us calling Benoit a killer and saying stuff like he will never make the hall of fame. Maybe we should be talking about the good times like some of the great matches he had instead?

I think there's already a thread for that, but I was just pointing out the facts. Benoit's had many great matches, maybe more than anybody in history, but, as much as I'd love to push those negative things out of my brain (you know, the killing bit) I won't be able to honour the man in such a way.
  5. how people can judge him on this is unreal - who knows why he did it, what was going through his mind - something pretty bad must have been going through his mind to take his life and that of his wife and kid!

You're right. I mean how can we possibly judge a man who killed his wife and son but did some pretty cool diving headbutts, and this one time he did it off the top of a 30FOOT CAGE! He is so cool.
He always gave the fans his all in that wrong. It is so fucked up that he will never make the hall of fame because he is one of the stars that should be in it. It seems like WWE are trying to erase him from the history of wrestling altogether.
He is now a black mark on the history of wrestling (along with all the others admittedly). Face it. The guy's a killer and regardless of what he did in the ring, he shouldn't have those attributes and accolades associated with him. He's lost the right to be praised in any way, shape or form.

  7. So I've come to the conclusion that The National's "Boxer" just might be the album of the year. It's pretty fucking stunning, and I don't see anything coming along and beating it. With that in mind, I insist you download the following track. It's beautiful and melancholic without once being depressing.'Slow Show'

I like this a lot. I'm downloading a couple more of their tracks to get a firmer sense of them, but are their other songs like this one?
  8. I have been having a good few convos on MSN over Chris Benoit and quite a few fans have lost all respect for him. Yes what he did was way out of line but we can not just forget what he has done for us. Wrestling was his life.I will remember him for every time he went to that ring and gave us the fans all that he had.

I've lost all respect for him.I don't think I'll be able to enjoy another of his matches, I don't thinK I'm being melodramatic either, the guy killed his wife and son. I don't want to root for him when he's playing a babyface or believe in him in any way. I'm glad WWE have disassociated themselves with him straight away. He'll never be in the HOF, never be reverred by commentators and won't have any more DVDs about him. Thank fuck for that.Bye bye Benoit.
  9. It's all still a little bit too weird on the wwe front page. It's got an Undertaker banner with a gravestone that says R.I.P. on it. Right underneath that is all the Chris Benoit stuff. Wrestling's backwards, upside-down and inside out.

  10. If as is looking more than possible it is confirmed that Benoit did kill his wife and son it'll make watching any of his matches difficult for me

Same thoughts here. I just watched a little bit of a Benoit vid and all I thought whenever he came on screen was "that guy killed his son and wife". It didn't feel right to watch him and enjoy it.
  11. Still thinking about the show tonight and how this plays into the WWE. Is it too early to be holding a tribute show? I know Eddie's death was known only the day before Raw, but the details on this are very sketchy, and scary and the thought of running a tribute show today may just be too soon, if that's possible.

To be fair, given that there is a show scheduled that is far too late to outright cancel, a tribute show is the most appropriate thing they can do at this juncture. However, with what has happened, and the fact that such a tragedy has occurred, the 'what will happen on TV tonight' discussion really doesn't seem appropriate right now.
I was thinking more along the lines of what somebody else mentioned, a 'Best of' type show, just allowing people to get their heads around it.But, yes, it is all rather futile in the face of Benoit's death.

  13. I've - 'Natsukage'Gorgeous piano track from Japanese all-star group I've Sound, this is a prominent song on Kyoto Animations Air which is without a doubt the most emotional piece of Television I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing and that association alone is enough to make me well up every time I hear it. There's another wonderful track from this show called 'Farewell Song' which plays during the shows heartbreaking finale, but I daren't even listen to it let alone upload it.

That's some great stuff right there. More of this please.Might have to check out this Air business....
    Yep, more please.
  14. That's weird. I had a friend who was scared of cotton wool. On the day we all had injections at school we just lobbed a few at him and he ran away, acting seriously scared. Bloody hilarious it was. That cotton ball man does look fucking scary though...

  15. I just watched Mutual Appreciation, the second (I believe) film by Andrew Bujalski (who also made Funny Ha-Ha which got a good bit of UK press a few months ago). Both films are great and a cheap-and-grainy throwback to when independent films were actually independent and not subdivisions of the major studios. Both films have casts made up of the friends and family of the director, which include members of the band Bishop Allen in starring roles. Their songs feature in both films, although moreso in (the superior and much funnier) Mutual Appreciation as it's actually about a fledgling musician in New York. I've always been a bit wary of them as they look like twatty scenesters but dammit if Justin Rice wasn't ridiculously likeable in that film.... Anyway, check em out - the band and the films.Bishop Allen - Queen of the Rummage SaleBishop Allen - Busted Heart

After downloading that Queen of the Rummage Sale song I promptly got onto the Bishop Allen album, which I've played a couple of times through and have really enjoyed. Its quaint twee pop, which I like. Thank you parkamarka.
  16. I  this thread. And i seem to  Parksmarks musical tastes also. I needs to get me some of The Ting Tings instantly.

Me too, man. And thanks for the love. Reminds me, I haven't given any shouts to some of the good stuff I've heard on here recently.Definitely digging the following:Jens Lenkman - Black CabStrip Squad - Pervert/ExpertAlkaline Trio - Fire Down BelowI've also always had love for that Sigur Ros song, the video is ace. Camera Obscura is always good too. I'm undecided on that Teenagers song - it sounds kinda like [pompous music critic] M83 covering Weezer's Sweater Song [/pompous music critic], which hey - can't be bad can it? But the lyrics/talking bits really really rub me the wrong way.
 Well, thank you. I'm also a fan of Camera Obscura having only got into them about a month ago, they're just lovely during exam and work season.Has anyone heard the We Are Scientist's version of Hoppipola? It's surprisingly good. I'd upload it but it's on my Zen not my computer and I couldn't find it on Limewire, I'll try and make the effort in another short while. In the meantime, here's some soul. Enjoy. :)Percy Sledge - The dark end of the streetAlso, is anyone into Ludovico Einaudi at the moment? I first heard him on This is England, but I've downloaded a bit of his stuff and it's excellent. Really impressive piano and classical stuff with a contemporary feel.
  17. Deja Vu - flawed and long at 2-hours but enjoyable enough and carried quite easily by Denzel Washington in the lead role.

Deja-Vu was god-awful. How much money did they throw at Denzel for that piece of shit? Drive that car looking into the past Denzel, DRIVE IT!I watched Human Traffic the other day and loved it. Its not my scene at all and its a blatant Trainspotting rip-off, but a lot of things rip off each other, at least this had a couple of decent central characters and was an amusing film.
