  1. I watched Drag Me To Hell the other night. Fucking awesome. Manages to be really scary at points and also really funny too. Highly recommended to watch with a group of friends if you can.

You are kidding right? At no point is it scary, there's a fucking talking goat, the ending was straight out of the "This is so obvious how it's going to end" files and to top it all off there's no tits. How can you have a horror with no tits?

  2. I 100% agree on principle, especially as I have a lovely shiny 40" TV myself. However, sometimes the cinema trip just has to be done. I'd love to kidy myself and say that my TV and a good sound system recreate the cinema experience but it simply isn't true. Some movies are meant to be blared at volumes you could never legally use in your house and on a screen the size of a building.

Inglorious Basterds has some showpiece aural and visual moments that make it one of those films. I would urge you to bite the bullet and go and see it on the big screen. It's an 18 too, so pick a weird showtime at a particularly pedantic cinema and you'll cut out at least some of the annoying kid factor.

We have 2 cinemas in Northampton. Both are chav infested.

I actually bent the rules not so long ago (one month today to be exact). My son wanted to watch Harry Potter and as me and his mum were flying off on our honeymoon without him 2 days later I felt abliged to take him. I wanted to see it too, but I would have waited. Inglorious Basterds is purely for me, so the rules must be obeyed.

  3. My "I'm never going to the cinema again" rule is killing me because I really want to watch Inglorious Basterds now! DAMMIT!

Hoping for a decent download soon, but I'll prolly have to wait a couple of months. :(

what made you come to such a ruling?

It's expensive. It's uncomfortable. And noisey little fuck cunt wankers ruin the whole fucking film. I'd rather wait and download the film or by the DVD, sit back in the comfort of my own home, lights off, volume up and just enjoy it. Big TV helps too. I have to wait for the films (unless a screener or R5 retail download is available) but at least I can enjoy it.

  4. JFK - I thought I knew most of the backstory regarding the assassination conspiracy. I was wrong. A real eye opener and if the facts are true, I can't see how the truth hasn't surfaced by now. The final gun shot to the face was very graphic and how anyone can say that there wasn't another shooter besides LHO based on that very detailed peice of evidence is beyond me. A very good (albeit long) film, and great performance by Kevin Costner. I give it 4 pancakes out of 5.

The Hangover - Yes there were some funny moments, but not worthy of the 8.3 rating on IMDB. The guy who plays Alan is just ripping off Tom Green imo.

Killshot - Not a bad little film. Some of the acting was questionable (Thomas Jane I'm looking at you), but Mickey Rourke was his usual badass self. One to watch with the lads and a few beers.

  5. You nutter! It's a tedious, pretenious piece of shit with characters and dialogue and story that is so utterly desperate to be clever but is actually so fucking dumb that it makes Mr Bean look like a work of Shakespeare.

The dialogue did my nut in most of the time. "Honest to blog.". Fuck off. The vast majority of it was cringeworthy more than anything else though.

thank god i've found someone who hates that movie as much as i do

    I like it. :(

  6. Er, currently, in no real order, and right off the top of my head:

    Fight Club

    Glengarry Glen Ross

    Grosse Point Blank

    Blade Runner

    Oldboy

    Metropolis

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

    Se7en

    12 Angry Men

    A Clockwork Orange

Three Brad Pitt movies in the top ten!

Honourable mentions to: Akira, Pan's Labyrinth, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, La Haine, American Psycho, The Godfather, City Of God, The Third Man, Miller's Crossing, The Hudsucker Proxy and lots more...

Based on how much praise you throw at Kiss Kiss Bang Bang I thought that would have made your top 10. Interesting list though, I've seen 6 of the 10 and all are very good films.

The reason I ask is because I need some new films to watch and everything I've seen recently has been utter shite. I respect your opinion when it comes to films, so based on your list I now have at least 4 to watch.

  7. A Clockwork Orange: I remembered seeing a bit of this years ago and just thinking it was weird, but I've been enjoying weird films recently so I bought a copy. Great film, still very very weird but in a British way. I love the odd have russian half slang that the main characters use. I really want to get a copy of Brazil now, but they didn't have it in HMV.

Good film... I might give it a watch again soon.

I watched Finding Nemo at the weekend as well as Night at the Museum through the week seeing as theres now a sequel. Agree with the gentle comedy aspect, though I did get distracted with so many faces from so many places.

I've not got Spaced series one to rewatch, the last Indiana Jones film to see if it's really as bad as people say (I never paid for it, so it's all good either way), the Wrestler on DVD to rewatch and Stargate's Ark of Truth which I got from LoveFilm a week ago and haven't had time to see yet.

I shall have an entertaining few days.

    Nemo - Great

    Spaced - Great

    Indie - Good

    The Wrestler - Great

    Stargate - I hate Stargate

Should be a fun few days for you.

  8. The Hunt For Gollum: A short (34 minutes) non-profit fan film. It's really, really good. I wasn't expecting much and I wasn't sure how I would take to the characters not being played by the original actors, but they do a really good job. Very well put together, very well acted and the voice for Gollum itself is convincing enough that you actually think it's Andy Serkis.

The film is set prior to The Fellowship of the Rings, and it basically sets up Gandalf going to the Shire to see Bilbao. If you like LOTR, you'll like this.

  9. Superhero Movie - Not as dreadful as I expected and it actually made me laugh a few times, although I'm in no hurry to watch it again.

From Dusk Till Dawn - Would've loved to have seen this and not known anything about it beforehand. Still one of my favourite films for memorable lines, including this peach:

"Did they look like psychos? Is that what they looked like? They were vampires. Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits them, I don't give a fuck how crazy they are!"

I have to agree with you.

I thought it would be terrible but quite enjoyed it, even though it had that one out of Drake & Josh.

Havng an 11 year old son, I know what Drake & Josh is. Who out of Drake & Josh is in From Dusk Til Dawn?

I'm guessing they mean Superhero Movie

As they say on the streets, "my bad".

  10. Superhero Movie - Not as dreadful as I expected and it actually made me laugh a few times, although I'm in no hurry to watch it again.

  11. Hmm...I liked it but I just prefer Lee Van Cleef as a villian. I didn't however like A Fistful Of Dollars however.

Other favorite westerns of mine are Rio Bravo and the highly underrated The Bravados which has some great villians and the almighty Gregory Peck kicking copious amounts of ass.

I liked For A Fistful Of Dollars, just ahead of its origin movie, Yojinbo (which is also an awesome movie). But whether you like it or not, you can't deny its significance in movie history, at the very least.

High Noon is obviously another classic, and I have to say that I really enjoyed 3:10 To Yuma - it's such a shame there aren't so many Westerns made these days, and this one was very good indeed.

I thoroughly enjoyed 3:10 To Yumo. Thought it was a cracking film.

  12. Why the writing at the begining and eld of the film about his wife? It was pointless and added nothing extra to the film.

Clint's wife was essential to the character because it was she who changed him from being a feared alcoholic murderer into a father and a good man and the whole film is basically Clint trying not to revert back to who he is by remembering his wife.

I accept that and fully understand it, but I think it could have been done better. I've read that originally these bits were supposed to be narrated, that would have worked better. Or better still, integrate it into the story as the film progresses. This would throw an air of mystery around the character to begin with and learn more about him along the way.

The news coming from the whore was that she had been cut up, eyes poked out and tits cut off. Yet when they met her they didn't question any of the parts that were untruthfull.

It's the Wild West and stories no doubt were no doubt exagarrated when told from person to person so people were probably used to facts being incorrect.

That's just lazy story telling. A 10 second mention would have sufficed surely.

Why did Ned lose his bottle?

Again this is the whole point of the film. Ned didn't want to murder, he left his old self behind and got married and only just remembered what it was like to murder a man.

But at no point was that mentioned. I don't expect to be spoon fed a story, but I didn't fully understand the reasons why and I wanted to know. Also, if he didn't want to murder and was happy with his new life then why go in the first place?

Why didn't they just call Gene Hackmans Character Lex Luther, cus that's essentially who he was playing but with a slightly nastier side.

Gene's character and performance in this is genius. On one side he's the bad guy but he only uses violence in the goal of peace and safety. I can't remember the original Superman but I don't really think that's a fair criticism.

The good cop/bad cop thing was pretty good I have to admit. I wasn't really sure who to be rooting for at first and that particular part of the movie was played out well. But I still thought at some point he was going to start throwing Kryptonite at someone.

I'm not by any means trying to convince anyone that this is a shit film, I know it's not a shit film, I just think there were some shit parts that stopped me from enjoying it. I've never been into westerns really, but after watching The Good, The Bad & The Ugly a few weeks back and loving it I just thought that I would love this just as much but was left disappointed. Maybe I was spoilt with TGTB&TU? I won't let this put me off the likes of The Dollars films when I get around to catching them.

  13. Watched Unforgiven last night. It's a bit wishy washy really. Quite forgettable and I'll probably never watch it again. Eastwood was his usual self, and a young Morgan Freeman with a buff body was quite odd to see. A bit meh overall.

I hate you. Unforgiven is one of the greatest films ever made. And if you think Eastwood was his normal self you pretty much missed the point of the entire film.

Maybe I missed the point. But what niggled me was this.

Why the writing at the begining and eld of the film about his wife? It was pointless and added nothing extra to the film.

Sorry for shitting on a favourite of yours, I just found it a bit... well, shit.

  14. Crank: High Voltage: If they gave an oscar for mindless fun, this would win it. Unconventionally brilliant and not one dull moment. Anyone who enjoyed the first one should definitely catch this.

Hell yes, saw it thursday and thought it was great. Many a high five was hit, it was hilarious, fun and action packed and just total ridiculous fun.

I also saw I Love You, Man last night and thought that was great too. Paul Rudd should be more famous, hes hilarious. Would be a great date movie if anyones taking the mrs out this week and its much funnier than Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Really? I love Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Must give this a bash.

I will NOT be watching Crank 2. I enjoyed the first one right up until he jumped out the plane and made a phone call. That went beyond the ridiculous fun part, it was just stupid.

But thats the whole point of films like that. Thats why they're so enjoyable.

I agree to a certain degree. It's just that particular scene killed it for me. Like in Die Hard 4.0 after John finally defeats the jet fighter, turns to his left and just happens to see the car he'd been following previously turn into a hanger. Just a bit stupid.

Watched Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang last night. Some genuine lol moments in that film. The story, the acting, the cinematography, all really good. Val Kilmer & Robert Downey Jr. had great chemistry. Michelle Monoghan is hooooot! Nice tits too. Very enjoyable film and will be watching again.
