  1. Obviously, the main one is the Sabretooth saga - they're brothers, so why didn't Logan experience flashbacks when fighting him in the first X-Men movie, or why didn't Sabretooth say something to him? If you can let this sort of thing go and just enjoy the movie as a standalone, it's worth sitting back to watch.

    More obvious to me was,

<-- click on 'spoiler' to show/hide the spoiler

if this is a prequel how come none of the future X-kids he saves recognise him when he shows up at Xavier's institute in the first X-Men film?

    [close spoiler]

    ");document.close();

And don't get me wrong I did try to enjoy it, it's just... well... I didn't. Even as just a silly action movie.

  2. I just found it stupid.

    - Logan & Victor win wars by punching people.

    - "They've got my sister!" "Where is she?" "In this prison we're standing right next to..."

    - The "werewolf" stuff.

    - People get shot, slashed, stabbed (a lot), impaled, blown up and operated on and there's not one single drop of blood. Fuck the PG-13 rating.

And then it turns into Mortal Kombat (compelete with Baraka), followed by a seriously lame ending.

Bollocks of the highest order, says I.

  3. Last night I saw X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Short review: its sucks. Save your money.

Longer review: It's two hours of Huge Action posing and looking vascular. The screenplay is largely without wit and, I can't believe I'm saying this, suffers when Ryan Reynolds disappears from the screen. Stuff just happens, characters react in really stupid ways to things, some of the effects look atrocious (especially at the end, when there's a series of the worst effects you'll see this side of Doctor Who) and it leaves some big plotholes, leading into X-Men.

    A pile of arse.

In better news, I'm seeing Star Trek again on Thursday, this time in Gigant-o-vision at the IMAX. Bring it on!

  4. I'm thinking of watching Franklyn tonight.

Anybody seen it think it's worth me wasting my time or?

I know it didnt get great reviews but i kinda enjoyed it. I obviuosly dont want to say too much and spoil it. But i think its worth a watch.

    And from the opposite corner...

It's a pretentious student short film that somehow has been dragged out to feature length. It's a great idea, frustratingly and ponderously executed and if you don't want to repeatedly smash Eva Green's face into the wall by about the half-hour mark, then mister, you're a better man than I.

  5. Anyone who picks anything other than Under Siege is a fool.

On topic: Go and see Star Trek, when the masses are allowed in. I saw a preview screening in Australia a couple of weeks ago and it rules. I had to sign a thingy saying I wouldn't tell people what happens in it, but I can say it finally makes Star Trek cool and even if you're not a Trek fan, as I'm not really, it's a great, fun movie..

You know, I really hate you. You went to Australia to see behind the scenes of Superman Returns and now your telling us you've been back out in Australia and have seen the new Star Trek movie.

    Your a bastard! :)

Erm, yes... that'd be me. :D

My colleague Andy and I were sent to do the official online edits ("domestic" (plenty of interviewee soundbites) and "international" (as little talking as possible for "no habla ingles" countries)) of the world premiere at the Syndey Opera House by Paramount as they liked the work we did on the UK prem of Watchmen. Andy was also the interviewer for the "official generics" at the junket. When a media outlet isn't invited/can't make it to the interview junket, they can ask for the generics tapes to cut a piece for their TV show/website. Andy was given so long (an unheard-of-in-the-UK 15 minutes (most UK junkets, you're lucky if you get 5 minutes)) with the talent (who are all really nice) that he was able to do the generics and then effectively interview them again for our own exclusive piece.

Anyway, we didn't ask why they wanted to send two Brits to the other side of the planet, but went with it and had an awesome week.

The "domestic" edit of the world prem is here, our "domestic" coverage of the UK premiere is here and when I find out where the "international" versions got placed, I'll pop a link in here.

Also, if you become a fan of Moviebeat on Facebook, you'll be able to see photos from the prem and the trip, a couple of Facebook-exclusive "extra minutes" from the UK and Australia premieres and a video of our trip to the Sydney Aquarium. :D

    Gratuitous plug over.

  7. I absolutely hated last night's "special". Badly written ("Quick bit of dialogue about something that's going to happen" - said thing immediately happens), badly acted (step forward, Miss Ryan), cheap "blokes-in-suits" monsters and the CG bus from hell that, after a scene in which one of the coppers reads the number plate aloud, had the wrong fucking number plate on it!

I watch each episode, hoping this will be the one that turns it around and makes it a show worth watching again and every time I fall somewhere between disappointed and downright enraged.

And does Tennant have it in his contract that he has to kiss all the bloody women in this show?

  8. I get to meet plenty through my work. Off the top of my head...

    Nice guys/gals:-

    - Bruce Campbell is awesome. Spent a few hours in his company and he is dry humoured, open to just about anything, but a total pro too.

    - Eric Bana - I'm currently in Sydney, having just worked on the Star Trek world premiere and my colleague & I have been bumping into him all week. Really nice guy.

    - Ditto Karl Urban.

    - Bryan Singer

    - Jet Li was unable to stop smiling.

    - Chuck Palahniuk is tremendous fun. Funny, friendly and not at all what you'd expect, given his body of work.

    - Zachary Quinto (Sylar/Spock) - Smart, witty, cool.

    - Bill Nighy is your cool uncle. Held the door for me when I was laden down with heavy equipment.

    - Dara O'Briain

    - Amy Adams

    Dickheads:-

    - Kristin Scott-Thomas is a proper stuck-up cow.

    - Steve Coogan is an insecure egomaniac and a nasty little twat to boot.

    - Ewan McGregor is slimy and has the least sincere smile I've ever seen.

  9. We need a "BBC Babes" off-shoot, for such lovelies as:-

    wendy_hurrell203_203x152.jpg

Wendy Hurrell who I saw on TV for the first time this morning.

    lauratobin_003.jpg

News 24's sexy little Weather Pixie Laura Tobin

    And, for some unspecifiable reason...

    collecting%20award%20with%20Lucy%20Seigle.jpg

The One Show's eco-milf Lucy Seigle (centre), who, even though she appears on a programme with Christine Bleakley (), I still find curiously attractive.

  10. It's crazy to think about the current state of the US wrestling scene with those figures, the current supposed number 2 promotion can barely reach what the former number 3 promotion from the old hierarchy did, and that's with Panda pumping money constantly into it. Jeez.

Yeah, but ECW started running PPVs as the biggest wrestling boom in history was getting rolling. TNA didn't even exist until that boom was well over, and has only existed during the ongoing decline of the industry as a whole.

And is booked by ADD-affected chimps with precisely zero understanding of how wrestling should work.

  11. Oh and Battlestar Galactica has caught my attention recently and although I haven't been watching the episodes in any linear fashion, the odd episode I've caught here and there have been great.

Start with the miniseries and watch the whole lot. It's The West Wing with space battles. The characters are all flawed in properly human ways and have the kind of intertwining relationships that you can't really latch onto by just watching an episode here or there. It's well worth the time and investment.

  12. My thoughts on Heroes season 3:-

    AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGH!!!

Yep, that pretty much covers it.

Season 1 was, barring the dreadful first and last episodes, magnificent TV. Season 2 went off the rails and, obviously, ended prematurely. Season 3 was just utter piss.

How, in such a relatively short space of time can you take one of the best shows on TV and make it one of the worst? The writing is appalling, the logic violations boggle my mind and, much like JLM, I just want to smash Peter "Little Nicky" Petrelli's stupid fucking face in.

    Anyway, who's following Battlestar?

  13. Before I go for my dinner, Sophia Myles from a bunch of not very good TV shows and Doctor Who:

Picture or no picture, I've met her and she's:-

    A) hot in the flesh

    B) awesomely funny & down-to-earth

Tennant was a lucky man. The only turn-off is the insistence that her name is pronounced "So-fire". Eck...
