  1. How are TNA television ratings and PPV buyrates comparing with ECW's back in the day?

meanwhile I know that TNA is averaging about 30,000-35,000 buys a ppv, with a peak of about 40,000, but not that that equals in buyrates. I do recall hearing that the best ECW ppv sold something like 100,000 buys, so that's considerably highet than TNA have managed so far.I don't think there's that much in it between the tv ratings, but ECW's were generally marginally higher.
1.0 was generally around 400,000 in those days. So TNA would be 0.1 or just under. This buyrate scheme isn't as accurate, that's why these days PPV's get their actual buy numbers quoted. Roughtly ECW looks to have around 85-90K every PPV. But conversely, they seem to only have around 4 PPV's a year.
  2. Larry is right. I think he may have used a powerslam before the piledriver, but I'm not sure it was a finisher in the sense we now know. He definitely hurt his arm after leaving to join WBF than start the bionic forearm. I think that was a really shitty finisher. Torture Rack was cool tho!I've just been watching a September Nitro '95 and in it someone is propelled over the top rope. At this point Easy E mentions that the referee saw it, but he must have assumed it was accidental because 'no action has been taken'. We know about WCW's over the top rope rule, but when did this actually finish? Or was Easy E just mentioning someone being 'cautioned' for throwing them over(although he made a relatively large deal about it). Any help?

  3. Two questions here firstly was Hulk Hogan ever involved with TNA? And secondly did Undertaker sing his own entrance music? The "You're Gonna Pay" one.

I know Jarrett and Hogan did an angle in Japan that was meant to lead to a match at a TNA based on an incident at WCW Bash at the Beach 2000 but Hogan ended up pulling out of the whole thing
Yes, during their weekly PPV phase they were going to have a 'massive' 3-hour PPV, called Bound For Glory was Hogan V Jarrett for the title. They showed Jarrett smashing Hogan over the head with a guitar after a New Japan match. Jimmy Hart also cut promos on the weekly PPV's, about how Hogan was coming and they talked about it quite abit. However he never actually wrestled a match for them.
  4. Had anybody before Jericho in 2001 won both a light/cruiserweight title and a heavyweight title in their careers?

Tatsumi Fujinami I think held a lightweight and heavyweight title in New Japan.I can't think of any in American wrestling.
Are you just counting 'world' heavyweight titles? If not, then there's many in WCW - Eddie, Malenko et al that held Cruiserweight & U.S. title reigns. Benoit was WWF Light-Heavyweight champion in Mexico then WCW World Champion in 2000. Raven as WCW's Light-heavyweight champion in 1992 as Scotty Flamengo then ECW 'World' Champ by 96/97.
  5. TNA PPV's used to have Jeremy Borash announce the competitors for the World Title match inring(after enterances) like in boxing.  I missed several PPV's, then saw Bound For Glory and Genesis which had a 6-man tag, and a 'quicky' title match with no proper entrances.  Do TNA still do this? It was a great build up.  I noticed Penzer was announcing on Against All Odds last night, he was good, although if they skipped this practice for the main event I'll be pissed(I was too tired to watch).  Cheers!

The AAO main event was announced that way, by Borash. I know they've been looking for another ring announcer to allow Borash to take Shane Douglas' backstage interviewer, which he did for most of the ppv, with Penzer doing the announcing. However, Penzer was nowhere to be seen around ringside throughout the whole event, as far as I could tell. He certainly never set foot in the ring, and, when Konnan was handed a mic in-ring, it was by one of the ring girls. What with Borash doing the main event, my question is this - was Penzer actually in attendance at the ppv, or were his announcements pre-tapes?
Thanks for the update. Funny you should mention about Penzer not being there - I thought when introducing Daniels he was a little early, he was barely through the 'curtain' and he'd finished announcing him. I also thought they'd mention it/show him during the event at some point.

  7. 7. How do TNA make a profit without live gate (admission to their shows is free)

PPV buyrates. They don't pay Spike for their TV timeslot. They also have no tour schedule, so no touring costs. They only actually have three shows every month, 2 impact tapings(covering 2 shows each) and the PPV. So it's basically their PPV buyrates, merchandise sales & international market's money is how they 'make' money(of course this is offset by paying the wrestlers). You might have heard about TNA making money or breaking even, but often they are paid for merchandise(their toy range, DVD sets) in one lump sum which will skew the figures. International TV is a win-win situation. An Indian station pays them a certain amount to show each episode of Impact. When you consider that Impact is produced for the US market, any money(no matter how small) from International TV is 'extra' profit.

    9. Why did Scott Hall leave TNA in February 2005?

I believe he missed a flight because of more alcohol problems.
  8. Why was Jim Ross absent from December 1998 until April 1999?

He was suffering from Bells Palsy.
Were the audience actually informed of Ross' condition from the beginning?
When heel JR was around with fake Diesel & Razor I'm sure he had Bells Palsy then too. Wasn't that the "you think the little kids will be scared by me??" angle happened, and he setup a alternative commentary table/position?
  9. 4) when did it become the rule that the royal rumble winner went on to face to title holder at mania?

Wasn't it Hulk Hogan who was the first, in 1991? I fairly sure it was 1991. He won the Rumble then faced Sgt Slaughter for the Title.
That wasn't a rule, and there was no 'title shot at Wrestlamania up for grabs' stipulation. It's just a coincedence Hogan won that and received a title shot.
  10. Yes, I think so.  I'm pretty sure it was in Mexico (for AAA) while he was an associate of Los Gringos Locos.  He may well have lost it to Konnan.  I'd guess mid-1994-ish.

Was it not in a cage match loss to Konnan in Los Angeles, for AAA...?
I think their first match was Steel Cage, the 2nd a 3 falls Hair V Hair (regular) match. I remember Jake being asked if losing his hair was a big deal, but he said when he's paid that much, he'll do practically anything. Konnan(big face) was in a retirement match with someone, Jake jumped out the crowd, DDT'd him to lose the match. Then months later the fued kicked in.An on-topc question: I remember reading in the mid-90s how Konnan was a huge star in Mexico, appearing on soap operas etc etc. I never hear of him returning to do any shows. Is he still a big name over there?
  11.   In the mid to late 1990s Vader was out of action due to a supposed attack on a Middle Eastern TV host. Was this a legitimate event or was Vader just playing the hardman on the talk show?

A bit of both. Vader was a guest on Good Morning Kuwait. The host questioned wrestling's legitimacy and Vader responded by swearing (a no-no on Kuwaiti TV) and then belting the host.
In addition, the skit was pre-planned by the producers. They told Vader what to do but forgot to tell the host what was happening.
So I think the host complained to the police, and the WWE had to bail Vader out. Since it was relatively mild publicity-wise(he hardly killed anyone), they showed the video on TV and played up the fact he was fined. Or maybe I was kayfabed.
  12. Thanks for the site links, guys, I believe this may be the match I was looking for:

March 21, 1999: Van Hammer b Bull Payne...La Parka, Damien, Lizmark Jr., and Super Calo b Silver King, El Dandy, Psichosis, and La Cucharacha (Disco Inferno)...Rick Steiner b Fit Finlay...Juventud Guerrera b El Vampiro...Bill Goldberg b Hak...Vincent b Horace Hogan...World Tag Team Champions, Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit, b Raven and Perry Saturn...Scott Steiner b Chris Jericho...World Heavyweight Champion, Ric Flair, b World Cruiserweight Champion, Rey Mysterio Jr

I forgot that Disco was in that match. Plus on the two sites Van_Dammer & Peggy recommended, there's no mention of it being a hardcore match, so perhaps I'm getting my wires crossed.I do vaguely remember that Nitro though, it was the "Spring Break" edition, didn't Mysterio push Flair in the pool surrounding the ring after their match?...
Yes he did indeed! I recently watched a '6-man Mexican Hardcore Match' featuring, La Parka, El Dandy and others. I believe it was in March 99, soon after the logo/set change. That's the 'infamous' match were the commentators laugh throughout, and just basically slag the entire concept of a '6-man Mexican Hardcore Match!'. The match is fun, and La Parka who is about to be on the receiving end of a plancha, nails them with an incredibly sweet chairshot(even better than the Benoit getting nailed by Jericho/Edge - I forget!)
  13. Does anyone know the details of Raven's 'Seven' storyline that was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread?

Mr.Seven does a good description of the angle, although it has more parts to which he has posted, it's actually quite difficult to remember it all. I think the last 'sin' was Envy, but I'm sure there was a little twist at the end too. I remember thinking at the time ' that sounds great!'. It's definitely worth looking out. Also, Vince okayed the idea to originally start on Heat and move to Raw, but after it had began Vince was chatting to Raven, saying they are going to start that angle soon - pissing Raven off(Vince obviously doesn't watch Heat!)
  14. Are all the ROH Straight Shootin' black and white? I don't mind - but it shows them in colour on the back...

No, they are (the ones I've seen, Foley, Corino etc) all in colour, they are ntsc discs though, uk players are pal, try messing about with the options as most players play in auto so they will play as ntsc.
Thanks for your help. It's Foleys thats black and white for me and I'm playing it on PS2. Like I said it doesn't bother me, I was just wondering.
Thats what i used to play RR2000 on. It was always black and white cos PS2's are not multi regional sadly :(
Buy a new cable. More specifically a DVD+RGB AV Cable. That has a switch for DVD/PS2 games playback on your PS2. I used this because I bought Firepro R and KOC for my PS2, but they were both black and white. This cable fixed it. Also gives you a slightly clearer picture for gaming.
