  1. Flags of our Fathers. I've seen Letters from Iwo Jima, which is the Japanese side of the war, this is filmed from the US side. It's less about the US-Japanese war and more about the individuals who were propelled to stardom, and how the deal with it. I'd rate this as very good, whilst Letters from Iwo Jima is excellent. It's alot less patriotic than you may think/other films are. Nice touch of having an American Indian in the lead as well.

  2. I think the first 1 was a 100th show sometime in Summer 97, it featured Luger beating Hogan for the title, and it was the last Nitro before Hog Wild

Think you may be right. I had it in my memory of Spring Break '97 being 3-hours, maybe not. I've got all the '98 Nitro's, I'm sure they officially jumped to 3 hours sometime in January of that year but they had a few other "one-offs" before that.
  3. Just finished watching Wrestlemania VII Hogan/Slaughter which featured Hogan using some heelish tactics and giving ol' sarge a good pounding. Also remembed Hogan illegally using powder to blind Slaughter in the Summerslam '91 main event. Was Hogan losing popularity or did they just do this to give the Gulf War fued some 'bite'?

  4. I remember watching that on DSF :( And they followed it up with dual atomic drops. Christ, I hate that move.I searched for the DSF channel online the other day, just out of curiousity to see if they had any wrestling still on. I remember watching that channel from 1993 onwards and over the years they showed, WCW PPV's, Clashes, Nitro's, WCW Saturday Night and others.Today they just get SmackDown. The wrestling world is indeed a poorer place today.
My memory may be foggy, however at the end of my Sky Analogue(and with it DSF)'s lifespan, I remember them advertising a different channel which would show lots of different federations. They advertised it on regular DSF, I distinctly remember it even featuring ECW and Smokey Mountain, along with WWF and WCW. I'm unsure if this was an entirely different channel, an action sports channel or what(since TWC is supposed to be the first). Ring any bells for anyone else? I wonder if it's still going...
  5. Just a quickie. How long has Hulk Hogan played the political game? I've obviously heard all about his WCW antics, and his refusal to do jobs since his 2002 comeback, but does anyone know of any politicking in his original WWF run? Was he worse during this time? Or did he play by the book? Anybody heard any stories?

Difference is when your making money, no-one really cares. Jake has a story that he was fueding with Hogan on house-shows, but ended up getting bigger pops than Hogan so they had to forget it. A similar story featuring Bam Bam leaving WWF because Hogan thought he was getting too popular. The majority of guys in his run up to '92 don't slag off or complain about Hogan too much, he was a licence to print money and back in those days you can only really have one major face - also the house show money would eventually filter down to them. It's a struggle to think of any genuine main-eventers who don't involve themselves in politics to some degree.
  6. I have a question about the big two's house shows in the 80's and 90's. I remember looking at the results pages in PWI and seeing the same match results over and over and looking back I would like to know if each house show had a different finish or if they just ran the same match from town to town?Cheers

Probably the same match, but in a different town.
It's almost always the same match. There would be no point in wrestling anything different - the only ones who can see it would be seeing it for the first time anyway.
  7. WWF Monday Night Raw from September 23rd 1996.1) Why turn a play-by-play man heel? ( Color commentator: yes, but PBP man? )2) Aside from bringing in two heels, he had no further link to them after that promo.3) This was one of the first (if not THE first) time Vince was named as the owner on screenI didn't get it at all.

It might be. I know Nash as Diesel appeared to present Vince as the owner before that. although not in as many words. In answer to your other questions - there was nothing of interest on show and they were absolutely cacking themselves at what WCW might do?Edit: the link is
To be fair - JR is better on the mic than most of the talent at the time!
  8. A question about HBK's Sweet Chin Music. When did the crowd start counting the number of times his foot hits the mat in preparation for the move and why?

I assume since he's been a face perhaps? 1995. Probably wrong.
Thumping/Clapping maybe. I don't think they ever counted until his comeback or even after that. I'm struggling to think of them ever counting, although I don't watch WWE anymore.
  9. I think their promo from Starrcade 1994 and match from SuperBrawl V are pretty good (the finish to the match is a shame though). The UnCensored 1995 strap-match is most definitely not pretty good. And I've only seen clips of the cage match from Bash At The Beach 1995 but Vader was pretty much dead in the water by that point anyway (though of course, after having been killed WCW still put him over Ric Flair [and Arn Anderson] in a handicapped match no less).

    Cheers!
  10. Does anyone know where i can find footage of Jake Roberts debut in WCW where he came through the crowd and attacked sting giving him several ddts on a chair? I think it happened at a house show but they showed footage on worldwide, i just wandered if it was available anywhere.

It's on his Pick your Poison DVD.
  11. Got a WCW question - ive always been a WWF/E fan so never really watched WCW that often but i do remember watching one show where the ring was surrounded by a swimming pool and it was completely outdoors. Can't seem to find out any information about when it was, or what event it was but i'd love to see it again so if anyone can give me more information about it i can try to track it down! thanks

I believe it was one of those "Spring Break" Monday Nitro's.Thats the only thing I know about it. Sorry brah.
Baz is right, it's the Spring Break Nitro's. I was just watching the '98 version with Big Poppa Pump ending up in the water. I believe there was versions in '97, '98, and '99(with Flair V Rey in the main event). I'll post later and let you know if '98 is worth tracking down. It does look cool tho. If you require listings, you can use www.ddtdigest.com and look up the March shows. The 98's one is on the 16th March. Now my question - Can anyone explain how the FMW explosions were done? They look impressive - was it not dangerous to these explosions right on the wrestlers?
  12. When did chucking your opponent over the top rope stop being a disqualifiable offence in WCW?Are there any promotions that still enforce this rule?

I think the rule changed after the NWA split apart from WCW. 1993 or 1994 brah.
That's what I thought, but I'm sure they were still doing it at least as late as 1996.
They were kinda. On some '96 matches on commentary they mention the rule.
  13. 2 out of 3 falls...Did the WWF ever make a straight rule on 2 out of 3 falls matches? Because I've been watching the Best of SNME, the Bulldogs beat Heart Foundations(champs) with a pinfall then a DQ, they said the both falls need to be pinfall/submission for titles. Then later on Brainbusters beat Demotion with 1 pinfall to Demolition and one DQ and pinfall to Brainbusters. Did they ever agree on a format for this or was it just as it suited the storylines/matches?

  14. Is the NWA the oldest wrestling alliance in the world? I ask this because I'm sure there is another one that is slightly older, I just can't remember what.

I think NWA officially started in 1948. CMLL in Mexico goes back to the early 1930s.That reminds me - how do CMLL place the importance of the longer-running NWA belts and their own CMLL belts in their federation?
