  1. I think they could do Austin v Goldberg v The Rock v Hulk Hogan v John Cena on a 'B' show and the number would be a disappointment. What with The Rock's Survivor Series number and now the Lesnar one, 'B' shows (and before anybody starts, Survivor Series is very much a 'B' show these days) aren't the place to be throwing away big matches.

What a mental deal Lesnar has though.

They rushed him in to beat him for an extra 35k buys. I'm sure he doesn't give a shit but with that contract they should very much care.

B shows seem to have a ceiling right now and i can't see any of them breaking through.

Should they lower the price like the initial In your house shows were?

  2. Gatso reappeared as Denzell something.

He'll be easy to spot - newbie Arsenal supporter in the PL thread.

If it's the same one i'm sure Denzell was supposed to be a Spurs fan and i remember thinking at the time that the stuff he was coming out with was something a Spurs fan would never say.

  3. "They love Kevin Nash and old school WCW and seem to think their far cooler than the average wrestling message boarder goer because there lads who like a bit of banter."

"They all have it in their sigs and usually gang up on anyone who disagrees with one of them over TNA or old school WCW which is i think what happened to get the name being banned as they kept ruining threads by turning them into bitching threads against an individual. Sometimes the individual deserved it, sometimes they didn't but i guess it happened one to many times."

Pretty fine epitaph. Although you have used "their" or "there" in place of "they're," failed to capitalize an "I" where necessary - twice - and used "to" instead of "too" in your final sentence.

Decent effort, but you aren't going to get the extra 5% for SP&G.

Apart from butchering the English language was i being harsh?

We need more use of the phrase "message boarder goer". Amazing.

Probably could use a better description not quite sure why it's amazing though. Odd.

  4. I've never suggested one size fits all approach anyway. Nothing is a given, but it's all about chance. I've never said you can't achieve if you come from a poor background, just that your chances are a lot lower.

What is really frustrating for me is that people who have come from a poor background and have broken away from it seem to forget that and instead of trying to help people from that background just say 'well if I can do it, anyone can', when blatantly that is not the case.

What's really frustrating for me is when people come out with bollocks like that last paragraph.

  5. This is one of the problems with socialism for me, speaking broadly - it can't distinguish between individuals, and so has to lump them together for the purposes of distributing "fairness". Because spurs 4 life doesn't fit into Whiskey's model of the poorly educated, it's irrelevant to his thesis. The fact that people from identical backgrounds are capable of achieving such different results is aggravating to those who'd like to do broad social re-engineering, as it kind of pisses on simplistic views like "oh, it's a lack of good education that causes poverty, therefore better education=less poverty".

That's not to say that the thesis doesn't have merit - there's undoubtedly a link between education and poverty, but it's not a simple analogue.

    Totally agree with this.

  6. Lucky you, and I'm sure you've worked hard for that, but unfortunately that's not going to be the reality for a lot of them, especially during tough economic times where the employment market is more competitive than ever.

I was more making the point that qualifications aren't the be all and end all.

As i've said to you many a time. I feel there is a difference between a youngster living in London and someone living elsewhere. I was lucky that even though i was a useless school kid i lived in London during my twenties so whilst i did struggle at times i always did find work in the end and i found a place that let me progress.

I'm aware that those sort of opportunities might not exist outside London but within it they most definatly do.

  7. You've probably got one GCSE to your name and have a grasp of basic spelling and grammar. I wonder what some of their CV's look like.

Whiskey you seem like a nice fella so please stop this. You can argue until your blue in the face but when you reply to Rick like you just did it sounds like your defending them and this thread has too much bickering in it.

Let's concentrate on solutions now yeah? I'm glad you liked my idea of community service i'm just gutted the goverment haven't gone down that route. I also think there is a difference in solutions when speaking about London where i maintain there are plenty of opportunities and say Liverpool which is a much much smaller place.

  8. Don't know how true it is but according to my brother most teens under 18 are just being given a slap on the wrist.

Now they would be perfect for community service. They might even nab themselves a way in with a builder or something along those lines.

  9. That would have been a better idea. If these people feel alienated from society then perhaps rebuilding the damage they helped cause would instill some community spirit in them. I wonder how they'd feel if they spent a month, say, tending to a garden only to have some gobshite come along the night before their last day and completely destroy it.

Indeed, can't believe it hasn't been done, no point sending a lot of them to prison as we don't have the space and it won't do any good.

Question for people looking into the future. How do we improve education in places like Tottenham when often in secondary schools you could have a class of 30 kids often in Tottenham there are loads of different nationalities within that class and most of them barely speak English as a second language! It must be tough to provide a good education for those kids.

  10. See, this is where people like us can agree and could come to a compromise. You suggest more funding for police, which I would agree with, however I'd also add a lot more funding for deprived areas to provide those who do need them with sufficient services.

Also, as far as your police point of taking on from different areas, I agree. And also, I think there's a LOT more to be done in the police in terms of race relations as I think that institutional racism still runs rife throughout the police, especially the Met. A youth worker from Tottenham was quoted in the Guardian as saying that he's heard police call 18 year olds "niggers and bitches" - and sadly, that wouldn't surprise me. I'm not saying thats the majority, but even a minority like that should not be tolerated.

I will always advocate more funding for poor areas, always but first and foremost i want to make them safe to live in which before the riots were even dreamed of Tottenham wasn't.

I think getting more police from different communities should improve race relations between the police and the public.

  11. As the King of Swing pointed out though, they don't seem to have a problem finding money when it suits them. How many millions have we wasted bombing Libya for the last several months? And for what result - our foreign secretary doing the diplomatic equivalent of standing with his fingers in his ears going 'not listening, nananananna' to Gaddafi and Cameron getting to play at being a statesman for a few weeks.

I bet that money could have paid a few policemen's salaries.

Indeed the argument that they have to make the cuts on here is absurd. People should feel safe in their community and as i said before right now (well before the riots) walking around Tottenham one of the roughest areas in the country you would hardly ever see a bobby on the beat. Stop and search is there for a reason but it also causes problems, having more police walking the streets should hopefully push the crime under ground where crime (which will always exist) should be. I don't profess to know where they find the money from but it's quite obvious that they do need to find it.

I'd also like to see the police look at themselves and try and make themselves a more attractive career option for people. If we can get more policeman who come from places like Tottenham i think relations would improve.

  12. What is the alternative to the cuts? Spending money we haven't got for another 5 years, and making the cuts then?

Find the money. It's needed don't you think?

  13. When all of this broke out, i never saw it as a politics game. It wasn't long before certain things started being thrown around though, mainly the ammount of insane racial comments posted quite openly accross the net.

Once that started, it became an open book for people to explain their points which obviously led to political discussion. What i hate and despise, is that this will casue so much political bullshit spin in the upcoming weeks from all sides of the political See Saw, politicians using it for party gain and favour. I think Cameron has been pretty cak during this and IMO has proved he does not have what it takes to run a country (just my opinion), but i dont need other party members trying to convince me that they could have done it better, using this horrible situation to their gain.

Which will clearly happen. It always does.

I feel really uncomfortable with what i feel is an underlying feeling that the looting/rioting is a black thing. Seen many different colours doing it. This isn't a race thing.

  14. I won't lie i'm still fuming and heartbroken at what they have done to Tottenham but i don't see this as a right against left issue.

My thought's haven't changed much. The inner cities need a far bigger police presence. Walking around Tottenham on a day to day basis you rarely see a bobby on the beat and that's something that needs to change. Make it harder to commit petty crimes, make it as hard as possible, hopefully this will put off young potential gang members when they see these gangs struggling to make money.

I also think the punishments and prison system need to be re-thought. Their simply not enough of a deterrant at the moment. I'm not sure of the answer to that one but it's something that needs to be thought out.

Alongside that of course these areas need money and lots of it pumped in. Places like the Broadwater farm estate in Tottenham need to be knocked down, social housing needs to be spread out so were all mixing.

Oh and the reason i'm posting this, if the Tories go ahead and cut the police budget, i'll never ever vote for them. And i'm someone who is firmly in the middle waiting to be convinced.

  15.

This video really annoys me. I know there are issues with the police force but it must takes such guts to stand there in that and then for them to take that abuse and for the crowd to cheer?

    Pisses me off.

  16. Whiskey do you not think half the problem you have faced in this thread is you waded in straight away with the politics whilst Tottenham was still burning?

That's not a dig by the way just a theory.

  17. The reason why I challenge Mickey is because he is part of an organisation that promotes prejudice against religious groups.

I question the use of the term 'scum' because I see it banded around regularly to describe unemployed people, 'chavs' etc. I just think that by using it in the context of the riots threatens to tar a large group of people with the same brush even if they have had no part in the riots. Although it is the rioters/looters that are the current hate figures of the public it is normally people who are uneducated/unemployed etc.

And your right too but as i know from my friend who is in the EDL it's not quite as clear cut as them all being racist thugs.

My friend honestly believes his there for the greater good and his a part of it despite pretty much all of our mutual friends being asian.

I despise organisations like the EDL and if you join it then you deserve every stereotype you get. I was making the point that we all judge people.

  18. I also probably shouldn't say this but fuck it my old man will never read this.

He could have got a job by now if he really really wanted but still being picky. He got his HGV class II and can't get work due to having no experience in that field but he now only seems to want driving job's.

I've found plenty of good jobs for him to apply for which i know he lies about doing so or does it 5 days later when it's too late.

I'm saying this to make the point that there is work out there if your determined. Of course the difference is he isn't looting and doesn't think the world owes him something.
