  1. the geezer who said boxing isnt a sport a few posts up - i would like him to explain a sport to me....

I think it's easier to list the ways in which boxing is a sport than explain how it isn't, they're so innumerable but here's one; there are four main world sanctioning bodies and none of them are trustworthy or have a shred of credibility.

i read a thing in Boxing Monthly yesterday that says something like 'The WBO recognise 17 weight divisions, yet they have 35 world champions' or something similar, how the hell does that work!?!

Boxing has gone interim champion crazy. What started as an exercise to allow champions time to recuperate from injuries is now used when champions are healthy. When somebody signals they may move weights, they crown an interim champion. When somebody signals they may unify titles, they crown an interim champion. It's worse in the WBA where they have Super Champions, regular champions and interim champions.

As I said, no credibility at all.

I think it's easier to list the ways in which boxing is a sport than explain how it isn't, they're so innumerable but here's one; there are four main world sanctioning bodies and none of them are trustworthy or have a shred of credibility. The oldest has two or three world champions at every weight, the most prestigious has had corruption problems, the third is money and power hungry in the extreme and the fourth favours dreadful fighters. All of them favour certain fighters and certain promoters for no logical reason other than corruption.

  3. Did you watch Haye fight Klitschko and come to that conclusion or pick it up from the gutter press?

I watched the fight. I then watched Haye take his boot off to reveal his sore toe, as if it was going to save himself face for the defeat. He looked and sounded like a cry baby sore loser to me. I thought his entire conduct in the build up to the fight was awful too. He should have kept himself a shred of dignity and admitted the better man won, rather than trying to make excuses like a girl.

If you saw the fight, you'd know saying that he had his arse handing to him is completely wrong. He lost because he was outworked and thought he could blast Wlad out of there with one shot. Are girls known for making excuses or are you a misogynist as well as David's brownnose?

Three things really irritate me. Firstly, it's the Klitschkos and Bonte come out of everything smelling of roses, despite being as up to their necks in the stinky shit of heavyweight boxing as everybody else. Bernd Bonte is basically the new Don King. Secondly, while I'm a fan of Haye's from his cruiserweight days, I hate how I have to defend him against myopia. It's tiresome when people ignore logic and the way the fight game works to talk shit. This leads me onto my third point. Why does boxing turn normal people (and David) into shit-talking wankers of the highest order. It's not a sport, it's violent showbusiness. It's undignified and trashy. It's like US reality TV. Enjoy it for what it is.

  4. Cotto is a real sportsman. He pretty much embodies everything that's good about boxing, and again, it's great to see him get the win.

Or he could embody everything that's bad about boxing in a completely different way.

    How so?

Cotto's been hideously protected for most of his career until he could get paid retirement money for every fight. Not saying he's a bad guy or anything but he was 27-0 and a world champion before he fought anybody good. Even then, there's a few fights on the record (Gomez, Jennings, Mayorga and a fucked-up Judah at 147) which are blatantly for the cash. His record is exactly what's wrong with boxing, not what's right.

  5. Cotto is a real sportsman. He pretty much embodies everything that's good about boxing, and again, it's great to see him get the win.

  6. Ironically, for guys who weren't worthy, both Serra and Lutter did better than anybody expected. Had Lutter got his house in order, Anderson Silva could have just been that really good fighter who wasn't as good as he looked.

If they brought back the Comeback and did it in a way where the winner got a number one contender's match rather than a title shot, it wouldn't receive half the shit the original did.

  7. My low points are me generally treating women like shit, which I never considered I did but in hindsight I wasn't the greatest friend of women. It generally stemmed from a lack of self-esteem, desperation and a need for intimacy that I hadn't got in years . I'd get caught up in the vibe with somebody I didn't like who liked me and get their hopes up. Rather than be honest, I'd try and wriggle off the hook in the slimiest possible way. Happened more than once too. I was very close to shagging the ugliest girl I've ever worked with. I basically made it clear I was up for it and she was pretty much infatuated from early on. She lived with her mum and if she'd said "come over tonight", I would have done it. She made me wait until Sunday and I made my excuses when I'd come to my senses. I got my shit together, lost quite a bit of weight and refound my self esteem. Thinking back, I kind of hated women.

  8. When people moan about heavyweight boxing, they have to consider that cruiserweight can be just as bad. Danny Green gets billed and promoted as a world champion loses to a 42-year-old semi-retired light heavyweight. You get guys who use it as a stepping stone to heavyweight and then a whole load of shit.

  9. If Murray can't take Mitchell's power, Katsidis would have him out of there in half the time. Nice to see a return to form for Kevin Mitchell though. He looked what he was billed as 18 months ago, a budding world class lightweight. He can go as far as his lifestyle allows him IMO. And something was up with Cookie midweek when betting was suspended on Ricky Burns winning inside the distance due to suspicious betting patterns in East London.

However, I will say this. He slipped a disc in the fight. If he has a degenerative back injury, it causes a pain cycle where the muscles spasm and put pressure on the discs, which in turn cause the muscles to spasm more. If his slipped disc is anything like mine, and I suffered my first slipped disc with exactly the same movements, what likely caused it was inactivity before the fight. I played Aussie Rules with my bad back at one point and then slipped it overnight sleeping in an air conditioned hotel room and turning over wrong in the night. He could have got through a whole camp and then the last two days of light workouts could have caused pressure on the disc.

  10. I wouldn't bother too much with Mikey's comments. He was big on Haye winning the fight, or at least putting in a good showing, neither of which happened.

He's also got a cheek to talk about "haters", especially since he's spent the past few months talking negatively about Wladimir in this thread, and insists on continuing to do so.

To be honest, I'm not having that. I'm a Haye fan. I think he was a tremendous, exciting, world-class cruiserweight and have been a fan for six years because he fought up the ranks the hard way. However, suggesting I've been talking negatively about Wlad for months is just wrong. Looking back through what I said, I've defended Wlad's record, I've said he has an amazing jab and an amazing 1-2 and that he's a great fighter. On the negative side, I said that everybody's up his arse, that he's pretty dull and that's why the Americans don't care. None of that is especially negative. Everybody does kiss his arse.

Those who talk up the Wlad's class won't answer why if he's so classy, why did he continue to trash-talk after the fight? It's dickish and flies in the face of his supposed persona. Given the allegations that have also been made against Wlad and his promoter, from the way they negotiate to sending Haye in through the crowd, it shouldn't surprise anybody that Wlad did it. He's not classy, he's a boxer.

Haye had a chance to beat Wlad, he chose to use the same shitty tactics everybody else did. Even using those same shitty tactics, he did miles better that everybody else who tried them. Was it the best performance, no, but as I said before, nobody ever looks good against him.

  11. Are you kidding me on? Haye has been running his mouth for months. It doesn't matter that he "sold the fight" - he is not a promo guy. See, this is the problem with wrestling fans. Haye should be embarrassed by the way he's conducted himself. He didn't have the tools to back up his ludicrous bravado and lost quite convincingly on the night. He has also further disgraced himself by blaming the loss on a relatively superficial injury.

I fail to see how Wlad can be considered a bigger cock than Haye in this circumstance.

What I am saying is that Wlad was fairly graceless in victory, talking down his opponent, which flies in the face of the idea that he's classy. He's a boxer, it's the dirtiest and sleaziest of sports and both men made enough from Saturday night to support themselves for a long time.

  12. As far as the heavyweight division goes, I'm more interested in seeing how the Vitali Klitschko vs Tomasz Adamek fight goes than I am in seeing Wladimir beat Haye again.

    If Haye's a blown-up cruiserweight, Adamek is a blown-up light heavyweight.

Wlad spoke like a complete cock. He's not good enough? He fought and beat the guy you wouldn't touch, you prick!

  13. I'm not turning into a "hater", whatever the fuck that means. I've said since the get-go that Haye had virtually zero chance of winning. His behaviour in the build-up to the fight made him look like a tit when he couldn't even come close to delivering. That has been added to by his sad excuses after the fight.

    A hater.

Your view is that you thought Haye would suck and because you felt he sucked, you're so fucking clever. It's typical boxing bullshit and it's beneath the people on this forum but everybody resorts to it because it's boxing and boxing apparently makes you that way.

  14. Don't be ridiculous. Beating Valuev made him a world-class heavyweight.

The only thing ridiculous is that statement. Valuev is a fucking joke.

Wladimir beat Haye with ease. At no point was he ever troubled. In fact, he got a tougher fight from Samuel Peter.

If anyone gets the chance, catch the US broadcast of the fight. They spend 90% of their time laughing at Haye.

Why is it when people talk about boxing, they turn into utter haters? I watched the Sam Peter fight, Peter was soundly beaten.

Seriously, can we have sensible discussion here, rather than the sort of emotive boxing fan bullshit we can get anywhere else?
