  1. I couldn't understand a word, I'm sorry. Blame Chest Rockwell for the mixing or something.

EDIT: However Butch, I reckon you could probably earn money off this sort of stuff on elance!

  2. Somebody said on Twitter that despite the last eight years of his professional career (he did OK until he went the full 12 with Julius Francis), he won us our first gold medal in Olympic boxing in 32 years and everything we've achieved since then has come off the back of that. With no Audley, there'd be no lottery funding and I know boxing brings out the worst in all of us but let's cut the hyperbole, he threw plenty of punches in his career.

He had some occasional high water marks, often followed by ridiculous lows that would cause a less delusional man to question his career. KOing Danny Williams and Michael Sprott in rematches and winning Prizefighter was probably as good as it got, showing he was a decent domestic fighter. However, his 12-round stinker against Danny Williams, the KO loss to Sprott in 2007 and his non-performance against David Haye showed just how dismal a fighter he could be on his worst days. It just got to a point in his career where he always seemed to freeze when there was some expectation. He never had a proper jab and thus could never use his long arms to keep his opponents away. If you can divorce Audley the amateur from Audley the pro, maybe we could all have a bit more respect for what he actually achieved in the sport of boxing and achieved for the sport of boxing in this country.

  3. It has to be said that when he's off the sauce, Ronnie Wood is a fine guitarist. It's probably the only song I've ever heard to reference "fracking" and it surprisingly works. The whole thing surprisingly works, which couldn't be said for pretty much everything they tried on A Bigger Bang. After the Paralympics catapulted Public Enemy to their biggest ever UK hit, I was discussing with somebody how I'm both pleased and dismayed that Chuck D is still going and rapping about the same stuff he was when he started out. It sounds like he has no growth in his world but the fact is that all the injustices he's rapped about in the past still exist and the worst part of it is a chunk of the formerly disenfranchised have bought into the system and turn a blind eye to the problems they face. I feel similarly about the Stones. This country's music buying is now so obsessed with "now sound" that no artist gets a chance to mature and start talking about real stuff. Instead, we get vapid, empty platitudes written by professional producers and conveyed through the autotuned mouths of average-looking young women.

  4. Mariners also sent cash with Ichiro to New York. The Seattle press are viewing it as a good deal. He's not what he was, it saves the humiliation of him not getting a new contract and takes away the temptation of re-signing him. It's also a massive salary dump, which is what a team that are 16 games back and looking to next season were bound to do.

  5. Fact is, boxing's a sleazy business that often appeals to the worst in us to make some money. Most boxers have to do and say shit to get attention. Chisora will probably get a career record pay-off for this one and, if he's wise, create a nest egg for him to live off for the rest of his life. If he and Haye have to call each other vile things and look at each other from either side of a fence in press conferences to achieve that aim, good luck to them.

  6. Part of Froch's problem is that the combination of his plain-spokeness, his confidence and his hands-down Detroit-style defence means that people in this country long considered him smug and arrogant, especially given he didn't get the "exhibition" matchmaking of Frank Warren.

  7. Eddie Hearn jumping in the ring aside, it was good to finally see a promoter give a shit about Carl Froch. I don't know what the problem with the Hennesseys was but they were clearly asleep at the wheel after taking their commission for negotiating the Super Six.

  8. As I recall, Fox, it'll be in one of the stands so you'll have a somewhat elevated view but you'll probably be 25m+ away from the ring. Like sitting in the tiers at the UFC I'd imagine.

  9. I view the Ring belts as the least-flawed rather than the best. The ratings are still subjective and somewhat biased towards American fighters. However, you're right, across the weight classes they're the best we have.

I still would love to see somebody come up with a deal with Boxrec to use their data and create a fully computerised, unbiased ranking/championship system. How it could be done, I'm not sure.

  10. Ages and ages ago, I said that the only credible world title at any weight is the IBO World Heavyweight Title. They put it on Lennox Lewis, the undisputed heavyweight champion at the time, and it passed to Rahman and then back to Lewis. Lewis retired and they put it on Klitschko two years later after he beat Chris Byrd, which they felt was a fight between the the top 2 in the division at that time.
