  1. There's no doubt in my mind that downloading has diminished the cultural worth of music. It's turned it into a throwaway commodity. I remember hearing Terry Christian going on about how an album used to be something really major, you'd only buy a few a year. Whereas going to See Manchester Utd play was something he did every Saturday, it really wasn't a big deal, not even the most notable thing you'd do in a weekend. Nowadays the situation is completely reversed. I think he said when he was a kid, an album was about

  2. agree that political leanings shouldn't really preclude someone from a job, but would you really want a BNP member teaching black or Asian kids, or a Muslim girl wearing a burqa?

Can't see what difference it'd make. I'm sure there's plenty of teachers that are BNP voters already. If anything, a teacher that openly identifies as a BNP member is less likely to show prejudice in their job than one who keeps their views to themselves.

  3. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/mar/07/j...fessed-identity

Jon Venables, one of the killers of the Liverpool toddler James Bulger, had descended into a "persistent state of self-disclosure" in which he felt compelled to tell others his real identity in the months before his return to prison, the Observer has been told.

The 27-year-old's mental state had become so fragile that he would regularly reveal his identity to strangers

  4. My dad was a copper with a "beat" where most people knew his name, but he left the job nearly 14 years ago. I have a feeling it changed shortly before that, I remember him moaning about it and saying that it would destroy the link between the community and the police. And guess what? It has.

  5. I was looking at the Wiki entry for the show and it says that Shamrock pulled out because he wasn't interested in fighting anyone other than Gracie in the final. Is that true ?

Yes, and he had a serious falling out with his adopted father (Bob Shamrock) over it.

  6. Albano had a history of going crazy with knives and blading it seems, I saw this on the History of WWE a while ago, it wasn't a televised event unfortunately:

    WWF @ Boston, MA - Boston Garden - December 8, 1984 (16,000; sell out)

Velvet McIntyre & Desiree Peterson defeated Penny Mitchell & Peggy Peterson

    Bobby Heenan defeated Salvatore Bellomo

    Buddy Rose defeated SD Jones

Brutus Beefcake defeated Jose Luis Rivera

Big John Studd pinned Swede Hansen

David Sammartino defeated Ken Patera via disqualification; during the bout, Sammartino and Patera tried to wrestle an Xacto knife from Capt. Lou Albano when Albano "lost it" and began cutting his forehead; in the melee, Sammartino's arm was heavily cut and he required 45 stitches

Jimmy Snuka & the Tonga Kid defeated Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff when Orndorff was pinned

  7. The Rockers vs Fabulous Rougeaus (from London Arena 1989). One of the top 10 WWF matches of the 80s IMO.

    Part 1

    Part 2

    Part 3

In particular the first part should be required viewing for any aspiring indy wrestler (ie how to work for nearly 9 minutes, barely touching your opponent, keeping the crowd on their feet for the duration. THAT is working. Not dropping people on their heads for 9 minutes for 10% of the reaction.
