  1. Cody to "retire" the TNT Title either on Dynamite or Rampage this week and then announce a new title on the opening episode of TBS before he wrestles the first match on TBS, like he did TNT. Obviously not the TBS Title as they've already got that but something else, something maybe honouring Dusty.

And the Dan Lambert feud writes itself really. Alls he needs to do is run down Dusty and let Cody fight in honour of his old fella. The crowd will lap that up. As much as they don't give a toss for Cody being Cody, they will still cheer him when he's telling Dan Lambert how good his dad was. And even this is the greatest ever storyline in pro-wrestling when it culminates with Dan Lambert's dad pinning his son on Father's Day. He's had a go at Tony Khan, a son with a successful father. He's had a go at Jericho, a son with a successful father. And now Cody, the son of a successful father. And this is where his dad turns up for a Father's Day special to tell Dan what a disappointing son he is and then lay him out for a 1-2-3.

(please note, this is not to be taken seriously so don't act like it is)

  2. I think as it's the first Owen Cup, they'll want a big name winning it to show respect to both Owen and his family and also make a point of saying this tournament/cup is worth winning in the future.

Couple of years down the line, they can start looking at the future of the company winning it but for the first two or three years it'll need to be the more established stars to add prestige and respect to the cup.

  3. I don't think they've much wrong with Hangman since he became champ.

He had his homecoming, he challenged Bryan every week only for Bryan to refuse and he came out looking after his mates in Dark Order when Bryan took it too far. His character is that of an insecure bloke, so he's not going to be coming out every week cutting Rock-like promos. I don't even know if Adam Page the man, let alone the wrestler, is comfortable speaking publicly. But he did get the best line in any exchange between him and Bryan, stating he beat Kenny within 30 minutes. And he's hardly the first wrestler to bomb on commentary. Look at the grief Jericho got on Rampage for being the complete opposite of Page.

And I'm a firm believer that the champion shouldn't be wrestling every week anyway. He's already the champ, he doesn't need to prove his worth. Bryan needs to prove he's worthy of facing Page, not the other way round. And it came across to me that Page wanted to fight Bryan whereas Bryan wanted to fight anybody but Page, hence why he kept pissing off whenever Page got in the ring and that's why their eventual match started with Bryan doing all the rope breaks to further frustrate Page from getting his hands on him.

I could only imagine Scorpio being thrown in and getting beat out of those, but isn't he meant to be going for the TNT title?

Don't the rankings get reset at the turn of the year or have I got that arse above tit? If they do I suppose they could justifiably give it to anyone who wins on the opening episodes of Dynamite or Rampage in 2022.

Cody v. Sammy is happening on next week's Rampage, which will air on Christmas Day. TNT in the US have a marathon tradition of showing 'A Christmas Story' from Christmas Eve into Christmas Day. Rampage has been switched to Saturday 9pm EST.

As for who might challenge at Battle of the Belts, not a clue but with it only being a one hour show I don't think it needs to be the biggest star. It seems like Hangman v. Danielson might be simmer in the background into Revolution.

Is Cody/Sammy deffo happening on Crimbo? I seen it rumoured but hadn't heard it confirmed. Even if it is, I'm that skeptical of Cody now that I still wouldn't be surprised by Cody/Sammy again opening TBS. Or at least Cody v someone.

Agree with you on Battle of the Belts though. If it is going to be an hour long show then it doesn't need to be the biggest name challenging Hangman but I would say he needs a decisive victory whoever it is he faces.

  5. The match itself was tremendous, wether you felt the outcome of it was obvious or not. The issue they've got now is what's next?

If Battle of the Belts is, as rumoured, only going to be on for an hour - I can't see the rematch being there. I'm not expecting another hour long between them but I'm also not expecting them to fit in Page/Danielson II as well as a tag title, TNT Title, women's title and possibly TBS Title (which will have been won the Wednesday before BOTB) match all within an hour.

So either it's the first match on TBS (though I wouldn't be surprised if we get Cody/Sammy to mirror the first match on TNT) or they hold it off for Revolution for the rematch, which is still 11 weeks away. Obviously they could throw it on any episode of Dynamite really but other than the TBS debut they don't have any "big" Dynamite episodes coming up.

And if it's not Danielson challenging Page for the title at Battle of the Belts, who is?

  6. AEW aren't really in need of any more big-name/money signings so it might be a case of AEW not wanting Owens that made his mind up for him.

They've got a deep enough roster now and because of well they rotate people on and off screen, it always seems fresh. And with Miro, Mox and Kenny all to return, their main event scene is going to be very crowded without adding Owens into that. Especially if over the next six-to-twelve months they see the "Four Pillars" starting to challenge for the World Title.

It seems now if they're bringing people in, it's to bolster the midcard with a bit of name value like Lethal or Nese. And I don't think Owens' wage demands or expectations would be that of a midcarder so from AEW's point of view, probably not a worthwhile signing at this point.

I think with the original plan of Mox we probably would of have seen Hangman + 10/Silver v. Mox & Kingston.

The problem with Danielson is he doesn't really have anyone to team with.

Page doesn't have to face Danielson before their title match though.

He could still team with any member(s) of the Dark Order in a tag team match.

Though I'm not that fussed Hangman hasn't wrestled. He's being presented as the one wanting to fight Danielson, while Bryan wants to fight anyone but Page.

  8. I'm surprised MJF and Tully haven't had a much closer partnership with Tully when you look at how well the other three of the "Four Pillars" have done with their veteran mentor. Jungle Boy has improved a lot since Christian aligned with him, Sammy has undoubtedly benefited from being alongside Jericho compared to those opening few shows and Darby has become arguably their most over wrestler helped in part to his partnership with Sting.

Obviously all three are immensely talented as well, which helps. And they're all improving the more exposure and experience they're getting, But having an experienced hand beside them has helped as well. And maybe having Tully in MJF's corner would help him turn his promos from the desperate cheap heat tactics he's got now to something a bit more meaningful. Unless Spears is meant to be playing the role of experienced hand helping MJF, hence the reason for their continued partnership more so than FTR or Tully.

  9. I find one of the major problems with his latest feuds is there is no real reason to them and that's partly because of his "not challenging for the World Title" stipulation. They can't add a number one contenders match in there to spice things up, they don't have him mixing it up with the World champion because of it and because there's no World Title involvement, AEW/Cody try and make his feuds feel bigger than they are with all the bells and whistles that go with his feuds/matches.

I'm not saying every feud needs to involve the World Title (or any championship for that matter - see Punk/Kingston) but there does need to be some reward for people. And because Cody can't be involved in the World Title picture, his opponents seemingly can't be either which leads to every feud becoming the same. A new heel comes to AEW, calls out the face of AEW - Cody Rhodes, wins a match, loses the rematch, loses the third match and it's repeated for the next bloke to walk into AEW. All the while there's nothing on the line or at stake, which doesn't help matters either.

A feud between Adam Cole and himself over the Elite's next leader, could result in a double turn. Cole is over as fuck and gets huge reactions to his antics and Cody needs a different direction.

  10. Four man commentary teams.

Three is difficult enough but can work well, especially when each person knows what they're supposed to be doing and have good chemistry with one another. But a four man team just always seems like they're either talking over one another or at least one of them is a spare part at a wedding.

  11. Tony Khan owns the fucking thing. How much more of a decent position do you want?

In terms of on-screen, they pushed and pushed to much resentment Asian women and Brandi Rhodes. They have given many tag teams of colour a break in the business, most of whom are too raw to take the mantle but will be future stars. Fucking hell, they gave Dante Martin a match against Kenny Omega in which he pushed him all the way. They've got the Latinos covered with Lucha Brothers, Pride and Powerful, Andrade and Sammy. All of whom are prominently featured on their shows, They've got Mark Henry, Taz, Excalibur all doing commentary roles.

OK so the world title picture isn't Scorpio Sky v Sonny Kiss, so fucking what? The people they have at their disposal who are ready to main event to the level that Omega/Moxley/Jericho have done since AEW's inception are white. If, and when, somebody is ready - they'll get their chance regardless of colour.

He had to retire for a while though due to concussion based issues. That may not make him the best face/spokesman when you consider things like the Benoit situation or other campaigners regarding CTE. Personality wise he'd be grand but you either have to say a) he got those injuries wrestling and had to retire or b) those concerns were ignored enough that he's now back wrestling.

Isn't that exactly why he'd improve WWE's image if they used him as a spokesperson (as well as a wrestler) though?

Somebody who is genuinely likeable explaining that he wasn't allowed to wrestle until he was medically cleared. Even if he said he wanted to but Vince told him not until the quack says yes, would make Vince and the WWE as a whole look better because they're putting the health of one of the nicest people in the business before their own gain by having one of the most popular wrestlers in history back in the ring before he's ready. It shows WWE in a good light, especially if presented right on screen.

And I thought he was back wrestling now because he had been cleared to do so. I haven't watched WWE since before e retired but I was under the impression that he had been cleared and therefore was able to return to the ring.

I love him but I don't see it. He's a great guy but I don't see that he's gonna hit much more popularity than he already has by going onto more daytime shows or anything.

It's not so much about him becoming more popular but rather being a good face/spokesman for your company. It presents a better image for WWE by having somebody that likeable on telly/radio than some people they could and have used.
