  1. Like him or loathe him, he's got people talking.

Dynamite has been exceptional for a good while now without him but there's very rarely as much chat on any one episode of Dynamite as there has been about this one of Collision.

  2. 23 minutes ago, The King Of Swing said:

MJF's promos are getting worse by the week. Just tiresome bollocks that feel an hour long.

    Ooooh he said Vince McMahon.

Fuck off and put the belt back on Omega or Mox.

I think we've got at least another six months of MJF as champ to make all this "bidding war of 2024" thing have some suspense to it. Will the AEW champ actually leave for WWE with the World Title?

  3. Another great opener for the International Title. And the end of this amazing run is getting nearer. It started with Cassidy not having the same effect with the Orange Punch due to his hand killing him but now they've got to his right hand being in agony no matter what, to the point he couldn't grip Swerve with it towards the closing stages of their match. I liked the fact that he "cheated" to win, it shows how much the championship means to him. Same as him being indirectly responsible for Trent and Chuck's eliminations at Double or Nothing. It's not a heel turn by any stretch but it's evidence that Cassidy will do anything to remain champ.

And I'm still going for Yuta to be the one to finally dethrone Cassidy. They could even have Best Friends refuse to help because of Cassidy's actions leading up to eventual loss. Pulling the top rope down at Double or Nothing so Chuck got elimiated. Allowed Trent to take the boot so he got elimiated and not actually thanking him for it later on. The pulling of the tights this week on Swerve. Maybe a couple of other heelish victories over the next few weeks and some goings on at Forbidden Door finally stops Best Friends being friends with Cassidy, so when the BCC attack him before his match with Yuta Best Friends just allow it. Cassidy can still valiantly make his way to the ring even though his body is practically a write off and then Yuta can be a cunt about his victory.

Interestingly they haven't tried to keep the other pillars at the top of the card post Double or Nothing. Darby is back with Sting saving Orange Cassidy, Jack Perry is back with Hook and Sammy hasn't been on screen but with his wife up the duff it's understandable. Even if it was agreed that they're not ready for the main event yet, it does seem like a real drop back down the card.

BCC v Chaos was a fun brutal match. In the same was as Orange Cassidy's matches, it's what we've come to expect from BCC matches now. I think this as a four man match at Forbidden Door with Danielson and Cassidy added to their respective sides could have worked well - especially for the storyline I'm booking for Yuta & Cassidy. But they didn't go down that route.

Another trios match next week against Hangman and the Bucks, guaranteed belter.

MJF & Cole exchanging words in the ring will be one of those that splits people down the middle. Some will love it others will hate it. Unfortunately I'm in the hated side of the fence. Not even because it was bad but because it was what we've seen before. It seems like every feud MJF has, his opponent says the same thing as much as he does. But we all know MJF's retorts now, the personal stuff (Britt Baker) the oooh stuff (Vince McMahon) and the dated stuff (I've got more money than you). And we now get a match between the pair of them next week to decide if Cole is worthy of a title match, so we could end up with two matches between them!

Hardys & Page is still going. There's long-term storytelling and there's flogging a dead horse. But I think we can expect somewhere along the line another contract on the line match so don't worry folks, this story is going on for a good time yet.

JungleHook v Vance & Dralistico would probably have been better had Jungle Boy not fucked off from Hook a few months ago. Didn't he say something about not wanting to be in a tag team as well? The cut to Vance looked nasty. I always get the feeling as well that Taz doesn't really like being on commentary for Hook's matches. I don't know why, it's just something I sense.

Collision announcement! Yippee CM Punk! Talk about flogging the dead horse. If anything, that has made me less interested in watching Collision now. And I think the only reason I'll watch the debut show is to see if Brawl Out is addressed in any shape or form. But by the second episode I can see me being turned off.

Don essisentially said this week what he's been saying for the last few that everything Kenny has achieved is because of Don Callis. I'm not really interested in seeing Takeshita squash people. Put him and Callis in something more meaninful for a couple of weeks while Kenny is away. An Owen Hart qualifying match or something. But just beating some no mark doesn't further anything.

We're back to flogging dead horses with the Christian Cage/Wardlow feud. Him and Luchasaurus taking out Brock Anderson is one of those moments where you think just let it go. Wardlow won at Double or Nothing, let's just move both he and Christian onto the next storyline. Or is Christian's entire AEW gimmick "I hate anyone with a famous dad"?

I'm all for getting Anna Jay on telly so no complaints there but I do have a complaint regarding the TBS Title and that is Statlander is just doing the same run Jade did but without the fanfare. There's no development to the title. I do like the open challenge theme in a lot of cases but I think now they need to put some effort into a genuine feud for the TBS Title.

Fatal-4-way to determine the women's number one contender. At least it gives the match some reason to happen. Bit odd to throw Nyla Rose into the match when she's just lost a TBS Title match, her reward is to go for the division's top title.

And then the main event. Was a decent enough match that they'd built up to throughout the show. Nothing special but nothing drastically bad either. Get Starks & Hobbs back together so they can kill the Gunns and Bullet Club. And it's only writing that, that I've put gun and bullet together.

Easy enough watch but nothing happened that if you missed you'll regret.

  4. The buy-in was a precursor of what was to come before any in-ring action actually started. It had the mishaps of Renee calling Paul Wight "Show" a couple of times and it had the high moments of Stokeley calling himself a giant and all the others corpsing.

The actual match was a bit of a shambles, as has been stated with Jeff Hardy looking worse than Matt. The Gunns and Hook deserve much better than this.

Once the PPV got going, it seemed like every match was having the same problems of mishaps and moments of brilliance. The battle royal for instance, doesn't begin until somebody actually gets in the ring but JR telling us all on commentary that it makes no sense whatsoever to stay on the outside. Hang on Jim, it makes fucking perfect sense in that case. What doesn't make sense is why anybody would get into the ring. Let the others destroy themelseves while you stand and pick up the pieces. Interesting that Cassidy was indirectly responsible for the elimination for both members of Best Friends. Low bridging for Chuck to go over the top and Trent taking the bullet for OC. I don't think a heel turn as such is where they'll go with Cassidy but him going to deeper lengths to retain his title, especially as his body gives up on him, would be another layer to his character. Showing he'll do anything to keep the championship, including turning on his friends.

Jericho/Cole probably had the best build for the PPV and the worst match.

FTR v Jarrett & Lethal was maybe a tad too long but overall an enjoyable match, especially the ending. JR screaming at Sonjay Dutt (or at least that was what Excalibur claimed) was unintentionally funny. Can't remember if this was the match where JR corrected Taz on something and Taz responded with "just get me a shovel next time". Not sure I'm looking forward to FTR v Bullet Club though, which given they helped Starks chase away White & Robinson, suggests they're going to go that way. Or bringing in a third member for Bullet Club for a trios match.

I enjoyed the Wardlow/Christian match more than most it seems. His tribute to the Hardy's was a nice touch against one of their long-time rivals. And his swanton off the top of the ladder will be shown for years. I don't think is anyone clamouring for a Wardlow/Hardy match though. He does need something big next though to try and get him back to where he once was. 10 second squashes on Dynamite aren't going to do it anymore. Him against Jarrett could be fun and Jarrett would do everything in his power to get Wardlow over.

Hayter and Storm was a cock up from start to finish. Poor Jamie. Hopefully she can heal up and be done with this load of bollocks.

Trios match had the potential to be a belter but fell on it's arse. The rules thing makes no sense at all. Any three blokes can make a team and challenge. Wasn't that the case anyway? The opposition can make their own rule but don't make a rule that guarantees a victory for them. And the fucking lighting bollocks need binning off.

Jade v Taya/Statlander should have been a huge moment but instead it felt like "oh so Jade isn't champion anymore. ok". Statlander is going to have do some great work to actually make people care about her and the title. Jade has already beaten most of the division and those she hasn't are clogging up the women's title scene anyway. So there's no thrill in seeing Statlander beat a Red Velvet, Taya, Nyla Rose or any of the others because Jade has already squashed all of them. It could end up like the TNT Title where it originally became an important secondary title then ends up where nobody really gives a toss about it.

Can't say I was a fan of the World Title match mainly because it was one of those over choreographed things, where they all do the same thing to try and make it look like they're all one level. MJF punches Darby, so Darby then staggers to hit Sammy, who then staggers to hit Perry, who then staggers to hit MJF. Why? Just fucking lamp the cunt who hit you. Then let's all take turns doing canadian destoryers. Then let's take turns at doing suicide dives. Then let's take turns at doing our mentors moves. The only part that I enjoyed was where they all had a submission move on another. It's something AEW does all too often as well, the Lucha Bros and Young Bucks had similar things where they'd do the same moves. MJF winning was always a given as well, which probably didn't help matters.

Main event though was boss. I like the commentary team not knowing what was going on, it added to the chaos rather than them calling spots that they were already aware would be happening. Made it feel more frantic. The higher ups are obviously very keen on Yuta and giving him the pinfall here was proof of that. He being the one to dethrone Orange Cassidy is something I could see them doing, especially with their history. Hiding behind the BCC who beat the shit out of Cassidy for Yuta to get the win. The Takeshita reveal wasn't all that surprising but still a good choice. Him against Omega is going to be outstanding. I'd like to see Danielson take a step in the direction Taz did when he was managing Team Taz or even Regal with the BCC where they'd only do commentary when their boys were wrestling, I think that'd allow him to stay on screen without wrecking his body up any more until the time comes where he has to be in the ring. Not sure where Mox can go after this feud though, as we all want Hangman to move on to becoming the man who stops MJF's reign as champ.

Wasn't their best PPV by any means but it was bookeneded by two great multi-man matches. And there was enough in between for most fans to find something they'll enjoy.

    Why?

Because it's illogical to dilute either new show, especially a brand new one if there's no need to. Why have Omega, Hangman, Danielson and whoever else on only one show when he can have them on both?

At least if somebody else is running another show then there's some sort of storyline to have that could make sense.

  6. So with the statement saying the brand split is happening, Khan will surely need to have somebody running (at least in kayfabe) one of the shows. And maybe that's the best way to get Punk back on telly but not risking his body falling apart.

    GM Punk to run Collision.

  7. As bad as the four pillar storyline is going, it falls into the category of there being too much to kill between the PPVs in AEW.

If Double or Nothing was a four weeks after Revolution then we'd probably get the simple Fatal-4-Way in a very basic, simplistic way. But because it's coming ten or eleven weeks later we end up with another storyline that just gets a little messy and overbooked for the sake of it.

Also away from the actual in-ring promo tripe, the fact that the commentators were trying to put over the ranking system after all this time made it more laughable. And Schiavone saying that all three men had won their last two matches really made it feel daft. Whoopty do, they've won two matches in a row and that somehow gives them the right to challenge for the World Title.

  8. Jamie Hayter v Saraya (Battle of Britain for the Women's Title)

Omega v Ospreay III (after they meet at Forbidden Door).

Ogogo v Cassidy (Knockout Punch v Orange Punch Match for the International Title).

Davey Boy Smith Jr to win the British Bulldog Memorial Casino Battle Royal with the winner earning a shot at the AEW World Title.

PAC v Hobbs (Cup of English Tea and a PACket of Hobbsnobs Match for the TNT Title - use your own imagination to what that match is)

Kip Sabian & Penelope Ford v Adam Cole & Britt Baker (Intergender Reality TV Show Tag Team Titles)

William Regal & Wade Barrett v Don Callis & Taz (Cross Promotion Double Decker Duo Brawl)

Three Lions (Ian Brodie, Frank Skinner & David Baddiel) v House of Black (Trios Titles)

Tony Khan v Mohamed Al-Fayed in the final of the Cohen For Gold Tournament (Winner seizes control of Fulham)

Matt & Nick Jackson v Del & Rodney Trotter

FTR to appear on Saturday Night Takeaway to challenge Ant & Dec in some sillyness. MJF to appear on Call the Mid, Mid, Mid, Midwife

  9. They need to find a new way for Khan to make his "huge announcements" that don't involve giving him a live microphone.

He made a pigs ear of the All-Atlantic championship becoming the International championship and then again on Wednesday he was just repearing the same sentence for the Wembley show.

  10. AEW are just starting to get back on track after Punk's outburst, the last thing they need right now is to bring him back into the fold.

He's had his big return and his run as champion, time for AEW to fuck him off for good. Leave him to WWE for a surprise Rumble entrant next year, which he can win and have his WrestleMania main event. Then he can moan about something else.

  11. Maybe Danielson comes back and he's the one who makes Kenny see what Callis is really doing rather than coming back to help the BCC, leading to him teaming up with the Elite against BCC & Takeshita and leaving poor old Hangman out in the cold again.

  12. I haven't watched WWE for a number of years now and haven't seen any of Cody's return there but is one of the reasons he's getting that level of treatment because he's an old WWE lad anyway? Whereas Omega would come in somebody who made his name and fortune elsewhere and rather than embrace that, WWE (or moreover Vince) would try and tarnish his name. Similar to what they did with the likes of DDP, Booker T and Steiner when they got WCW and as people often said Vince done even with those who came up through NXT. It may have changed over the last five or six years that I've stopped watching, so apologies if this isn't the case anymore.

I think Jade would be foolish to move right now. Although she's not main eventing or even appearing on Dynamite every week, she is treated as a star. While I'm guessing WWE would want her in NXT for a few years to hone her craft in the ring before giving her the main roster treatment, so by the time she turned up on Raw or SmackDown she'd have lost a lot of the attraction in seeing her in WWE.

  13. The crowd want to cheer MJF but AEW (or maybe himself) want him to remain a heel. And that's the biggest problem. The only way he can get fans to boo him is to go for the cheap heat because if continues to deliver his "shoot" promos then he'll just get cheered.

  14. On 12/30/2022 at 5:35 AM, LaGoosh said:

Darby vs Joe announced for next week in Darby's hometown...good lord. If they top the last one this might be an all time classic.

Was it announced if this was for the TNT Title? I know Darby was pissing about with the belt after Joe's match with Wardlow but I can't remember if they said the belt was on the line or not.

It doesn't feel like the right time for Joe to drop the belt just yet but AEW do love giving people big wins in their hometowns.

  15. Couple of things that I haven't seen mentioned yet that I picked up watching this week's show.

Firstly I wonder if the crowd jump by Andretti was pre-planned or if it was just a spur of the moment thing. Because it was Jericho he beat, I imagine it's pre-planned with Jericho using it to as a dig at Punk.

And the other thing, when House of Black destroyed the Factory, the table spot with Lee Johnson looked fucking nasty. Looked like he did land right on his neck. The commentary team mentioned it briefly then quickly changed tact which makes me think it was a bit more serious than they'd first thought.

  16. It's a chance for people who are ready to take the next step in their career but unfortunately there isn't that opportunity in AEW because that level is already loaded. So I'd rather look at moving people who could benefit from it rather than people who don't entertain me.

Somebody like Jungle Boy, who is now ready to break out as Jack Perry and move away from the Jurassic Express storyline but can't find a way into the main event just yet and it looks like the TNT Title looks like it's going to be building towards another Wardlow/Joe match. So what does Jack do without becoming stale? He could still feud with Joe over the ROH TV title or even challenge for their world title.

Dustin Rhodes, as somebody who has already announced his retirement for next year and people would like to see go on a world title run this may be an easier opportunity than the top prize in AEW. A decent run over the first couple of months of 2023 leading to him winning the title with the stipulation of every time he defends the ROH championship, he also puts his career on the line. And then when Kenny Omega is AEW champion again around this time next year, he can go belt collecting again and defeat Dustin for the ROH world title adding an extra layer to the eventual feud between Kenny and Cody when the younger Rhodes returns to AEW.

Rumour is that Miro is fit and healthy again but isn't happy with the storylines he's being offered. Well fuck him off to ROH for a while where he can just go on a monster heel run as their champion. We know how good a champion he can be, his TNT Title run was one of the best championship reigns AEW has produced. It could also give ROH a familiar face as champion (as Claudio is) but not quite their typical style of champion.

The Ass Boys are being wasted in The Firm just when it looked like they were starting to be more than just Billy Gunn's kids. The feud with the Acclaimed obviously had it's usual AEW head-scratching moments but it was enjoyable overall. And then they got saddled with The Firm, which isn't benefitting anybody. But there isn't an obvious direction for them to go in AEW, so a change of scenery and different opponents could let them continue to develop into their own character rather than the offspring of Billy Gunn.

A ready made storyline is the return of Adam Cole now that ROH has it's own show again. As the man who has held the ROH world title more than anybody else, it'd make sense that he'd want to be the man who carries the torch in it's latest incarnation. New ROH or not, it's still Adam Cole who runs the place.

John Silver has completely gone off the boil in AEW, as has the Dark Order on the whole, and I think he'd benefit a lot from being a constant focal point of ROH. AEW can't really find a place for him right now and it seems a shame to see somebody as good and popular as him wasted on the sidelines. Now while ROH may not have as many viewers as AEW, I still think Silver would benefit from it - especially if AEW aren't planning on doing anything more with him or Dark Order.

I think you could name any number of the women on AEW's books who'd benefit from swapping over to ROH for a while but top of the list for me is Anna Jay because she has improved a lot from her earliest days with AEW but isn't near the standard yet of dethroning Jade or Jamie. And while she's pissing about with the JAS, she isn't doing anything meaningful. She also really doesn't have much purpose to being there other than being Tay's mate. So let her go to ROH and develop both in and out of the ring a bit more then bring her back.

Flip a coin for either of the Lucha Bros who could both benefit from a split but if push come to shove I'd lean more towards Fenix, who could really wow the ROH crowd. After this best of seven series with the Elite, there's not much left for Death Triangle other than a feud with each other. An implosion could see him off AEW telly and leave Penta and PAC to remain a dastardly heel duo. Something AEW don't have enough of. And like I say, once the best of seven series is over, Death Triangle or the Lucha Bros as a tag team will probably go back to doing very little until their next feud with the Elite/Bucks while Excalibur tells us who the older and younger brothers are. A separation of the Lucha Bros could benefit both wrestlers and both companies.

A bit like Jack Perry, Darby Allin, is in a position of nothingness at the minute. I know he's just had a shot at the TNT title with Joe but doesn't look like he's going anywhere. There'll always find a place for him any card because of his uniqueness and gimmick matches but it doesn't feel like much matters with him anymore. So taking him away from AEW for a while and giving him a push to the top of ROH's card might be just what he needs to get the spark back.

  17. I don't think the BCC was meant to be a collective unit and it was always a pair of individuals who had some sort of connection with Regal, who wanted to repay him teaching them by teaching the next generation - hence the whole Wheeler Yuta saga. I'm not sure what Claudio has added much other than he's a professional wrestler (though him joining the JAS sports entertainers will end up being genius in my opinion - a potential reunion of The Real Americans?).

But after Yuta, they seemed to stop with that initial premise until Garcia came along and then what looked like could be an interesting storyline of Yuta/Claudio against Bryan/Garcia got abruptly stopped with Garcia rejoining Jericho and not much of Danielson favouring Garcia over Yuta.

As for MJF turning on Regal, I thought it made sense from a character point of view. He feels he's above the wrestling world so he'd use anyone and everyone to get what he wants, he did that with Regal. It makes Regal look a bit daft for trusting somebody like MJF but makes sense from MJF's point of view. And while his promo went on a bit, he was saying everything his character would. Again, he feels like he's above everybody else so he won't be wrestling for free on Dynamite. If you wanna see him in the ring, you pay for it. He's obsessed with money so talking about how much he's gonna earn is in line with him. And his whole storyline now is about jumping to WWE in 2024, so claiming that he's gonna be champion until then and use the championship to drive an even bigger paycheque out of both parties. I was hoping he was gonna mention Punk when running down former champions with long title runs.

And they're obviously desperate to keep him heel and this was the best way for them to do that. But he did at least acknowledge that he's been getting cheered of late.
