Read the ExposeWrestling feed last night. Fucking hell. Depressing to see names of guys I knew and worked with there, some that floored me. I was saying to @Chris B that I used to regret not making it in wrestling, but now more than ever, I'm fucking relieved about that.

A lot of this stuff has genuinely shocked me. It says the "Wall of Shane" was something everyone knew about, but honestly - this is the first I've heard about it, and I hung around the FWA a fair bit in 2004/5. I knew there was a bit of a toxic culture as regards women, but I always had that down as general laddish behaviour like boys boasting about conquests or "bantz lol" which, whilst obviously not acceptable, I honestly didn't know was the tip of a fucking horrendous iceberg.

I was also shocked because I was under the impression that the more horrible behaviour came from the old-schoolers (not all of them, but I've heard some proper nasty stuff about a few), and that the new generation had a better, more modern attitude, that any cases of sexual harassment/assault would be isolated cases, rather than inherent in the culture, as it's now starting to look.

I hadn’t heard of the Wall either until today reading these threads

@elisarcabrera What do you think about the Alex Shane allegations? Did you ever hear of this behaviour with him and his pal Lynskey?

This specific story/allegation I was not aware of and no one at the time would have informed me. My wife has been in touch with Sarah and the timeline it occurred was after I had left the company.

the truth is the culture was and had always been toxic. I am not surprised this toxicity is now being exposed. It is long overdue. When MeToo happened in the film industry (where I worked for most of my career) my wife and I agreed it would be only a matter of time before Indy wrestling would have to stand up and acknowledge that there is a problem here and things need to change.  It’s a business that has very few women in positions of power to balance the boys club mentality.  It’s sad and upsetting to read so many stories. If you see my twitter thread (link above) I have put my thoughts down.

  3. In light of the last 24 hours of Twitter blow up regarding Starr and allegations from women he has dated in the past, I’d thought I would share a story about the On The Ropes documentary that featured FWA on Channel 4.

After it was broadcast we were told that many of the old timers were upset at us for doing the documentary which they felt was “exposing the business” or “breaking kayfabe”.

It would be later that I found out what specifically in the film they had objected to.

It turned out it was the fact that we had discussed the reality of “ring rats” (horrible term and one I feel very uncomfortable using). Apparently the old timers had watched with their wives and gf’s and some had to have conversations. But hey, don’t want to have those types of conversations then don’t sleep around. It’s not rocket science.

  4. The rebirth of Jon Moxley from Dean Ambrose shows that AEW won’t be a bin for unwanted WWE stars ala WCW. AEW will let the talent themselves redefine who they can be.  I am sure AEW will be interested in anyone who can show the creativity needed to be something unique and different.

Will be interesting to see how 'important' the UK market ends up being. TNA said exactly the same thing, and to be honest for a while they did a really decent job of making us seem way more important than WWE did, but that was mostly Borash's work getting in on the ground and actually giving us something good. Fan meets etc. It's not like the Bucks etc are shy of fan-related things so it should be a no brainer for those guys.

Difference to TNA is AEW will have the ITV TV PR machine behind it.

I've read it about 3 times and I'm still not sure what it entails. are they on air roles, is it kayfabed or are they actual jobs and theyll have actual power to do something?

It’s actual roles not storyline characters. They report direct to Vince. Bischoff will also have to deal with Fox TV execs.

  7. Well for my first live njpw show I really enjoyed it.

mox juice match was a lot of fun. I’ll freely admit it was Mox being added to their roster that finally swung decision to actually subscribe and give NJPWorld a try.

having only seen Osprey in WOS it was like watching a different person. Amazing match.

felt todays show was actually a good jumping in point for a newbie like me.

    If you’re after some matches to check out, have a look at MrLariato’s recommended viewing list. Everything has a working NJWorld link. I’ve spent many an hour just watching random matches and anything that sounds like a good time;

(It hasn't been updated since Dec' 2018 though, but I imagine he'll get to it when he can).

    Thanks

  9. Wondering if some of you can help me...

I have been out of the loop of the UK wrestling scene since my FWA days and only started paying attention again recently.

I am really curious to know who are the wrestling schools these days, who are that schools main trainers/owners and which wrestlers currently on the Uk scene graduated from those schools?

    Cheers.

  10. Looks like in order to watch in your own time on your sky box. You need to hit record after the event starts as you cannot record it in advance. I watched last night, hit record out of curiosity and it’s right there on sky planner with ability to forward, pause, rewind etc

@elisarcabrera This is driving me mad, mate. There's a Geordie doing commentary on the No Surprises 4 show and I have no idea who it is. This is puzzling me, because I found some old WrestleTalk radio shows on cassette recently, and this Geordie (Paul from Newcastle) is on every fucking week and even shows up as a guest after being "discovered" at a talent search. This has to be someone on here. Got to be. You dont call up TalkSport's wrestling show every week with smart mark clichés and not be a vintage UKFFer. Do you recall this person?

Weird. I don’t recall. Odd since commentary would have been recorded in my office in my flat of the time.

but just rewatching the opening of No Surprises 4 I am surprised to see that our production is looking better than recent UK shows I have seen shown on Showcase Fight Network UK.
