  1. I could live with Hayes managing them, although Lita was obviously the best fit. Gangrel and Terri offered nothing, but then I never thought that Terri was worth much after the Goldust split anyway. The PMS and she-devil stuff was the shits.

    Shane Douglas turned up as a jobber on the same ep, he wasnt Troy Martin but someone else. Great vignette of Sika and The Wizard in the jungle. Wizards one of my all time favourites. The voice on it, like a scarred up Brian Blessed with better vocabulary.

    Mike Kelly?

    This weeks Mae Young Classic themed Hidden Gems:

    * Victoria v Mercedes Martinez - WWE Heat 12/6/2006

    * Madusa & Meiko Satamura v Akita Hokuto & Kaoru - WCW Worldwide 9/2/97

    The ladies tag match lasts about four minutes and really shows off how far Bobby Heenan was pushed down at that point, pretty much relegated to the Bruno spot of doing the instant replay and not being able to name the moves.

  4. Meltzer is at it again with his total lack of pop culture awareness while eulogising someone in the wrestling business, this time promoter Ed Cohen.

    Referring to his return to work after his at least fourth bout with cancer (he'd had it three times at least between ages 17 and 37): "I remember when he came back... it was, um... it was like... he was like... I think he used the analogy, it's like Captain Kirk coming back to run the Enterprise, or something. I'm pretty sure that's what he told me. I just remember that... it was a Star Trek reference, anyway, and being in the chair, that would be Captain Kirk, right?"

    Nah, Luke Skywalker, Dave, what do you think?

  5. Yeah, seems pretty obvious to me, as funny as it is in the match. Certainly no worse than people like Adrian Adonis going to hit Roddy Piper with hedge clippers and him moving and them bouncing out of the corner and back into his face. Think Diesel did the same thing in his last match with Shawn Michaels in '96.

  6. Dave believes we live in a place with people with nicknames like "the frugal Canadian".

    I want to say it's Kevin Nash that complained that some people in wrestling and some fans and people on the periphery of wrestling cannot see things through anything other than the wrestling filter, and I think Dave is the perfect example of that. It isn't in this clip, but he nails him so good:

    I've got a WCW book somewhere that I got given as a kid that's basically just that Blackman page with everyone from the '92 or '93 period. Off the top of my head the only thing I remember is that Arn Anderson said his favourite food was steak and potatoes, The Freebirds listed shagging among their interests and that sometimes i'd read it and imagine having Johnny B Badd or Big Josh over for tea and being able to knock it out of the park because of this handy guide

    Didn't it make a habit of calling people "Mister (fill in the blank)", so you had something saying Bobby Eaton was "Mister Beautiful", Michael Hayes was "Mister Sexy", and so on?

    From WWF Magazine presumably. God I love Steve Blackman.

    With that era I can imagine they actually sat down and asked him as opposed to the ones they used to write that were basically the wrestler in character, for example the Million Dollar Man's favourite colour would be green and his favourite hobby would be counting money.

  9. I always thought that Doc Dean and Robbie Brookside, as the Liverpool Lads, were basically the British version of the Rockers without any costumes when it came to how good they were in the ring as teen idol good guys. Both nice guys when I had the chance to meet them at a local theatre where they were wrestling.
