    Covid related deaths comparison

    UK deaths
    yesterday: 89
    Day before: 119

    Spain deaths
    Yesterday: 5
    Day before: 2

but yes, let’s blame it on Europe...

Me being lazy, but what breakdown does the figure for the UK correspond to each of the 4 "nations"? I know that over here in NI we haven't had any noted COVID-19 related death in over two weeks.

The NI contact tracing app is also being launched today, you can already download it from the Play and App stores.

  2. It might be the only time I apologise in advance for a "TIL", but...

...today I learned two things about the Crazy Frog version of "Axel F"

    1. Its official video has, as I type this, almost 2.28 BILLION views on YouTube, and...

    2. ...the French feckin loved it! It spent 13 weeks at the top of the singles chart there and was only dethroned by another Crazy Frog release, it's version of "popcorn".

  3. I wonder how a substantial minority of people in the UK whom consider the idea of wearing a face mask in public to be a burden on their "freedoms" would have coped during World War II?

"I'm not fuckin' getting my KFC rationed! It's like Nazi Germany!!"

These last few months have seen those whom previously talked a lot about the "Blitz Spirit" turn quickly into the biggest snowflakes imaginable.

  4. TIL that Sophie B. Hawking's 1992 hit song "Damn! I wish I was your lover" bases its lyrics on a real life situation where she had a lesbian crush on a female friend whom according to Sophie was caught up in a loveless relationship. It starts to make sense once you read the lyrics, but it isn't so blatent that it couldn't also describe a hetero relationship. Cracking tune.

Knowing Vince & Linda's friendship & working relationship with Trump, I have wondered in the past what would happen if things got to a point where WWE Superstars were publicly critisizing him.

Whether that would affect their WWE status or bring about Vince actually saying something on TV about the ongoing situation.

Seems like we could find out sooner rather than later.

Can you imagine if Vince (or Michael Cole on his behalf) says something on Monday Night Raw along the lines of what Ryker tweeted last night. That would surely start a huge backlash against WWE.

It must have killed Vince inside that a WWE Hall of Famer and a personal friend of his whom he had a feud with that culminated in a match at Wrestlemania (between a chosen rep of each) won an election to become POTUS in November 2016 - and he can't mention anything about it on TV or their related media. In fact, it must still be killing him, got to be. The thing is that for the person called Vince McMahon which we have heard plenty of stories about through the decades, even he knows that any segment that could be perceived to be Pro-Trump would spell big, big trouble.

I feel similarly about Christian. I loved him in his Captain Charisma (deserves a bigger push) days but the minute he won the world title in TNA and for the rest of his career he was "meh" for me.

+1 from me to Christian - he was someone I wanted to love as a singles wrestler but I could just not do it. As one half of the tag team that reeked of awesomeness he was at his strongest IMO.

Possible controversial one from me - Bill Goldberg. I've just never bought into him.

  7. Some more TIL Geography...

    * The Norwegian town of Kirkenes, close to the borders with Russia & Finland, lies further east than Istanbul.

    * The westernmost point of Japan is on the island of Yonaguni in Okinawa Prefecture - it lies further west than any part of either North or South Korea and is only 107km or 66.5 miles from Taiwan.

    * The westernmost point of North America (and by extension, the USA as made up of its 50 states, excluding territories) is on Attu Island in Alaska, which is part of the Near Islands in the Bering Strait chain of islands. It lies further west than the whole of the North Island of New Zealand (so including the cities of Auckland & Wellington) as well as Fiji & both Samoa's. Attu Island was once the home of a small naval station that closed in 2010 and has since been uninhabited.

  8. The one move that has made me wince the most was when at a CZW event, Spyral BKNY performed a top turnbuckle moonsault styles-clash type manovure on Mike Sydal, knocking Sydal out cold. There is absolutely no way that the person taking it can defend themselves, with a legit KO & other injuries the very least of the outcomes.
I'd also agree with those who mention the likes of the poison hurricanrana, or any manovure that involves the recipient "landing" on their head or neck after flipping backwards - doubly dangerous when done on a ring apron or other hard, not well protected surface.

I can't remember who said it, but one issue with a lot of pro wrestlers today, even some in the WWE, is that they're their own best/worst marks, prepared to do something that is legitimately career ending, or worse, to try and get a cheap pop with the crowd that is say not even a regular match finisher or important to the physiological element of the bout e.g. a move of utter desperation. It might be justified as a feud ending manovure as a big pay off at a major event, but it's not worth it being paid ÂŁ30 in front of a crowd of 100. That mentality really needs to start having a grip being put on it the same way some of the stuff from the Attitude Era was so over the top either in performance (like Mankind in KOTR 98) or general public taste (Mae Young giving birth to a hand) that someone will have to call for it to be toned down perhaps with a final big bang like WrestleMania 17,before it comes to an abrupt halt.

  9. In general? No, up to a certain, blurred point. When it comes to wrestlers, or any other professional entertainers like actors, I have no major interest in what they believe or espouse beyond their work unless it is a necessary, integral part of their profession. Wrestling, in particular, is an industry that is not only seen generally as downmarket and can get away with stuff that would ruin the careers of other sportspeople, actors or writers etc. but also working with gimmicks especially in 21st century indie & big-league promotions can have the real/gimmick line so easily blurred. For example, Daniel Bryan once stated on the original NXT that he was a socialist, but is he really? TBH I'm not concerned. Kofi Kingston's support of the US Republican party (prior to Trump hijacking it) doesn't concern me either. However as already mentioned several times, it's much more morally and intellectually difficult to justify with Chris Benoit, as well as some other wrestlers like Austin, Michael's, Davey Boy Smith, Jim Neidhart, the Dynamite Kid etc. whom at least at one period of their lives just came across as cunts.

I guess this progresses into other areas of media - the most infamous one being Morrisey - I still like to listen to the music of The Smiths but still hate the cunt behind the microphone because Marr, Rourke & Joyce deserve to stand in their own right for that music. It's a lot more difficult to justify that with the Lost prophets, however. Something similar concerning the Gallagher brothers. In their Oasis days, Noel was, other than attending a No. 10 party hosted by Tony Blair, generally apolitical other than clearly not liking the Tories. In the last decade however he's stared moving towards much more right of centre political positions albeit still not keen on the Conservatives. On the other hand, Liam who was very much apolitical in his early years is more vocal in his political outlook esp. concerning Brexit and general current affairs without going overboard I still like bits of their individual music to this day (love "Once" by Liam) but if you told me ten years ago Liam would come across as the more sensible of the two, come 2020, I wouldn't have believed you.

Look what's happened while Dominic Cummings has been dragged through the media. What an odd coincidence.

Going to be some craic seeing the DUP explain their reasons for voting "aye" to much of their farming-based supporters. A lot of them would likely voted leave either because (a) they felt EU based agriculture regulations were burdensome on them, or (b) because the DUP said so - but I seriously doubt many of them voted for cheap hormone-pumped and chlorine washed shite coming into the UK to render them quickly into bankruptcy.

I felt it was more a reassertion of that so that everyone doesn't get carried away and set fire to Bill Gates if it never happens.

I wonder how many of those who believe that Bill Gates wants to carry out a massive worldwide population cull through using vaccines as a proxy, (still) use Windows either at home or at work?

I'm torn on what the best reponse to this is? To completely ignore it & be seen to be 'above' such behaviour? To go balls out & sue knowing you've got them bang to rights (but risk more people viewing the video, ignoring the truth & it doing damage) or threaten them with legal action unless they apologise & donate to charity (ala Corbyn & that Ben Bradley rat)?

He needs to respond. Tell each of them that they own him a public apology as well as a substantial donation to a children's charity of his choice. Refuse to do so then he'll start the ball rolling for court action. I seriously doubt these three female Tories, even one knowingly as dense as Nadine Dorries, all randomly thought it was a good idea to retweet a defamatory doctored video concerning one of the top QC's in the country without some sort of coordination. Starmer needs to nip this right in the bud real quick to show not only that he won't be a push over but also to show the bullies among the government and the PCP that the LOTO will willingly stand up to them and if they try to hit below the belt, he'll gladly hit them back with one shot between the eyes. There's not much most modern Tories hate more that to see their bank balance take a big hit.

  13. TIL: In most countries that change their clocks twice a year, once forward & once back known as "Summer time" or "Daylight Savings Time", the official "standard" time is normally that in the winter months with the Summer Time period (almost always one hour ahead of official time) being a period of temporary deviation from the standard time. However, it's the reverse in the Republic of Ireland - by statute, the standard time of the state is regarded as one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time throughout the year, with the temporary deviation being GMT in the winter months. So IST is "Irish Standard Time" and not Irish Summer Time, with GMT used for the time in the winter period - but for all practical official purposes the time at any given moment presently is identical to that of the UK.

Also, the Northern Irish Assembly is the only devolved legislature within the UK that has the power to change the time zone of its jurisdiction should it wish to do so. For Scotland and Wales it is regarded as a Reserve Matter, so only Westminster can legislate for time zone changes in those two countries.

  15. A Mexican 'Lucha Libre' Wrestler Is Sewing Masks To Fight Coronavirus

Hijo del Soberano says about a week or two into Mexico's lockdown, which began officially March 30, he started getting desperate. They couldn't pay bills or buy food. His wife suggested they put their sewing machines to use. Why not make surgical-style masks to guard against the virus?

    Hijo del Soberano balked.

"'No, no,' I said, 'I make [full-face] costume masks,'" he says.

But with bills coming due and food running low, he relented.

"Early one morning, I heard this noise coming from the sewing room," says his wife, Marissa Espinoza RodrĂguez. "By the time I got up, he had sewn several different types."

Hijo del Soberano says the switch wasn't too hard. "I just altered my skills a bit and made the mask from the nose to the chin," he says.

He kept all the details and flair of his full-face designs, and still pays homage to Mexico's most famous luchadores: There's a silver mask like El Santo's, a blue-and-white covering similar to Blue Demon's — and of course, his own green-and-gold design.

Each mask sells for 150 pesos ($6.26), and he accepts orders on his Facebook page. Sales are off the charts, Hijo del Soberano says, and he's sewing more than 200 masks a week now.

"We're not hurting for money anymore," he says. "We just need more hands to make more masks."

The way the 90 day releases work I think they can still be called back at any time anyway. If that is the case, happy to be corrected though, I'd not be surprised to see several back if the US winds back lockdown. And with Trump pushing for the Ryder Cup to happen I'd not be surprised if sport or derivatives of were to get a full clean bill of health.

I recall back in 2005 Rhyno was given his future endeavours notice, but within the 90 day period he appeared in the original ECW "One Night Stand" PPV, with the crowd chanting "You got fired!" during his match.

  17. Aww, that sucks to hear. In an industry filled with loads of massive egos, dickheads, backstabbers, liars and just downright cunts, the Fink both came across as a genuine nice guy whom was aware of how popular he was with the fans but didn't let it get to his head, and that hardly anyone has ever spoken a bad word about him in public. The mark of a gent.

I wonder if she has a WiFi router in her home - because if she does then I hope she's "RESEARCH IT" and learned that it is almost certainly using the same frequency range/band (2.4 Gigahertz) as microwave ovens do. Same goes for Bluetooth.
