How's everyone doing with going out now lockdown has 'eased'?

I must admit I haven't been anywhere at all. Probably more through nerves than anything.

What's the new world looking at? Did you feel comfortable?

I'm going out when I need to, but it turns out that's not a great deal right now. When I do, I'm cautious but by no means terrified of the world. Turns out I'm saving a fair bit of money and unnecessary calories by not going out much so I'm fine with it.

I went to Homebase a few weeks ago and with the outdoor queueing for half an hour and the lack of this common sense the government keep talking about, I'm not in any rush to return to normal. Maybe when I'm working again I'll feel different. I'm certainly not in any rush to go to ASDA or a pub any time soon. I don't feel like I need to and I'm one less person for others to avoid.

So BWC had a massive uphill battle as nothing was in place. There were too many non arm-banded wrestlers, too many promotions who will use who they want, and too many schools not willing to pay money for the privilege of the armbands.

This was the reason why it never had a hope of working. You've got Alex Shane, who was hated by a lot of people trying to tell loads of veterans, and full timers that they needed his black wristband to say they were graded enough to work on shows, and promoters who booked these guys would have to firstly buy in to all that shit, and then have to commit to not using the guys that refuse to adhere to the wristband nonsense.

It tried to be like when they made the move from doormen being the local hardnut to anyone with a certificate, but it never got going because Alex Shane is a nobody and noone in government gives a fuck about wrestling.

  3. I couldn't even guess how many times I've watched Lebowski. I never get tired of it. The soundtrack alone is just perfect.

No Country is a great film but it I found it exhausting and wouldn't rush to watch it again.

O' Brother would be second for me. I love the feel of that era and it was done brilliantly.

  4. I once got on a bus and sat down in front of two old women, and one of them said (in a strong Yorkshire accent which is very out of place to where I live)

"and if you don't know the difference between a Lindy hop, a Jitterbug and Jive.... well what are you doing?"

I'm considering watching all six Sniper films in one day.

EDIT - Oh fuck, apparently they made eight.

I like the one with him and Woody Harrelson playing basketball.

I don't really get what a Spoons protest is supposed to achieve. If it's ostensibly to protest Tim Martin for kicking his workers out of their jobs at a time of pandemic and if it were successful and really hurt his profit margins, wouldn't that simply result in pub closures and many of those same staff people were supposed to be protesting in support of then losing their jobs at a time of pandemic? Seems a bit counter-productive to me.

I'm not going to stop going to pubs. Just his pubs.

If loads of people start working from home surely trains and fuel prices will be affected?

Starbucks must be shitting it for one thing.

Little celebration or admiration for his wrestling legacy by his wife or kids. His daughter basically sees wrestling as the devil.

Martha is a doctor and Oje is a human rights lawyer. Got the feeling they really look down upon their families pro wrestling legacy, even though they are Harts. Whole Hart family fell apart.

In comparison: David Benoit is probably standing in his fathers tights right now as I type this and rewatching and enjoying WrestleMania with a big grin on his face.

What an utterly stupid post this is.

  8. Just had the call from our lad's school to confirm whether we'd be sending him back when they open on June 2nd. They're operating on split classes, half going Monday/Tuesday and half Thursday/Friday with a deep clean on Wednesday. Maximum of ten children per class, isolated desks, new books and stationery for each child, lunch served at his desk, lots of outside time with staggered breaks and playground split into zones to make distancing easier to monitor for staff... And yet I'm still hoping my council will decide to stay closed.

They've left it to us to decide. What they're doing sounds great and very reassuring, and I have every confidence in the staff because it's a really good school, but still not sure if it's worth risking at this stage.

Any other parents going through this right now?

  9. Professors telling me how brilliant, yet unless to me, Microsoft Teams is, and those fucking relentless Nationwide tales of nothing are currently ruining my enjoyment of Come Dine With Me repeats in the morning.

  10. The "Boris" followers are just the worst. Last night I saw loads of comments accusing people of "interpreting his words to suit their narrative" while also doing just that, whilst also insisting that it was "perfectly clear". It's like fucking Jonestown on his Facebook page.

  11. I voted Ratatouille from this list but that's probably just based on current preference and having kids at ages where Pixar films are almost on loop at our house.

I possibly would have voted Moana if it was an option. Monsters Inc is obviously brilliant too.

I love the first three Toy Story films but 4 was a bit of a let down. I think they opened the universe up too much and put in too many new characters at the expense of familiar ones for what's supposed to be the closing chapter.

I'm not a big fan of Up after the opening scenes. I can take or leave the Nemo/Dory and Incredibles films.

No love for Tangled or Brave??

  12. There's a scene in one of the films where Knoxville is in his old man disguise and drives a motorcycle through a showroom window, and as people come to help him he says "Did I push the wrong button?" and it fucking slays me every time I think about it.

Always popped massive for Wee Man and Preston skits as well. They seemed like decent lads that caught a massive break getting involved in the show. Preston took some bloody punishment at times though!

I always thought Ehren and Dave England were a total waste of space. I remember one of them did an interview once and said when they first met Bam he said "everything you've ever done on this show sucks". Pretty much.

I remember hating Bam for ages but I ended up loving Viva La Bam. Mostly for Vito. I think between the Vito situation, losing Ryan Dunn and falling out with his friends I can appreciate him going off the rails. Hopefully he's doing better now.

I dug out 3.5 the other day because I heard Ca Plain Pour Moi on an advert and remembered that brilliant opening sequence.

  13. My local paper have just promoted "Clap For Boris" tonight on their Facebook page. "Time to put politics aside and support our leader who is doing everything he can for us" one commenter said.

I don't wish him dead but you can fuck right off.

  14. I live on a fairly main road and it's been at Sunday levels of traffic for a couple of weeks now. What's surprising is that most of it is old people going about the usual business of popping to the corner shop for a paper and then back again in the afternoon for a pint of milk. That shop is pretty grotty at the best of times as well, and obviously has no policy on numbers of people inside or distancing. You can't tell old people what to do.

Doesn't send a great message that the council are still sending groups of three blokes out to carry out vital work like cutting the grass on a roundabout at the top of the road either.

  15. My next door neighbour used to keep ferrets in a big hutch in his back garden and he came knocking at ours one day to say one had got out and was in our yard. I don't know why he didn't just come get it, but instead asked me if I could catch it and hand it over the fence to him. I put my slippers on and went to find it and managed to corner it, then as it tried to bolt, I put a foot out to block it and the little fucker buried it's teeth into my toe. Old Graham next door watched over the fence as I booted the side of our shed three or four times to try and dislodge his bastard ferret from my foot. I managed to grab it round the middle and pass it to him and he just tossed it back in the pen and went inside after suggesting I get some decent work boots if I'm going to be handling animals while my toe bled all over my lovely fleece lined slippers.

  16. I'm gonna say Sting in WWE never felt right to me. I wanted to see it for years but I reckon it happened too late to really work. I'm actually grateful it was fairly short lived because I don't think I could have watched him doing much more than he did. Maybe it's the missed opportunity with him and Undertaker when it would have been hot. That Wrestlemania entrance was brilliant, even in broad daylight, but on the whole he never felt like he belonged there.

  17. Animal's run on Smack down in his Village People gear was a disaster. That might have been around the same time as Tatanka actually? And their brilliant DVD set as well I think. What a way to shit on a legacy. Worse than the Heidenreich team.

  18. I woke up Wednesday with an uncomfortably high temperature, and a sore throat, so the wife immediately put us all on lockdown. We took our five year old out of school that day so looks like he's at home for quite a while yet. I felt better by the afternoon and haven't felt at all ill since but we did a pretty sensible food shop on Monday and have plenty of essentials. Also, me and the lad had a brilliant time yesterday turning his bedroom into a massive railway for Thomas and Percy and everyone. Looking forward to today's Hotwheels drag racing heats.

Supermarkets were obviously empty but there's a little Polish deli on my street that has fresh bread, milk, pasta. Even toilet rolls! I'm happy giving them as much trade as I can while they're still open.

We're self employed doing custom work and take 50% up front, and fortunately had a very big order a couple of weeks ago that should see us through in the short term. Not sure what happens next. We can work from home and online but have closed our shop for the foreseeable in line with a lot of our neighbors.

I'm worried for my nan who is nearly 90. She's basically housebound but I know she's bound to have one of my idiot cousins visit with their kids.

Biggest choker in this is that my uncle's funeral is next Friday (unrelated, aggressive cancer) and it's looking like it's going to be restricted to immediate family. Really upsetting for all of us but unfortunately it's probably the right thing to do. There is talk of a celebration of his life once this is over which actually sounds great to me.

An interesting idea I read somewhere was if they filmed each segment and match one by one over the coming days/weeks and really go hard on cinematic angles and stuff to make it look like a movie. It's supposed to be the biggest and grandest show of the year and I thought it would be a cool way to make it slightly more interesting than an empty arena match over and over.

I thought about this earlier and if they could get away with it I think it's a good opportunity to test this type of shooting. Just thinking about Goldberg and Undertaker getting to pre record their matches over a full day, without getting blown up, having to push on through an injury, retake any botches. Go mad with the angles, edit it to fuck. It's not quite pro wrestling but it could be just the thing that saves those matches.
