  1. Ryback is slowly turning into Ahmed Johnson!

Rollins/Ambrose I'm absolutely loving right now, fued of the year. I really like Reigns, and see him being THE man in the future but right now Rollins and Ambrose are looking like they can slot into the WWE main events with ease. Their bout last night and at Summerslam had that late 90s main event vibe to it. Really hope the company builds round these 3.

Overall, an enjoyable show. Didnt mind the Steph/Brie stuff, just didnt need to see it 3 or 4 times.

The official rule is that if you are released from your contract before its official expiry date, WWE will continue paying you for 90 days on condition that you don't work anywhere else. The unofficial rule is that they don't mind you working indies, as long as it's not on TV for another promotion.

The 90 days isn't enforceable and you can work wherever you want right away if you are happy to give up the money. For most people who were on decent contracts, you won't get enough elsewhere to make it worthwhile.

I disagree with this. As far as I can see the clause as written in the contract isn't actually a "no compete clause", it's about notice. For those ninety days they're still under contract just the same as normal. They won't require you to work and will let you make appearances elsewhere as long as you get permission, but that seems to be standard anyway. Punk, for example, worked for ROH in 2006 while under WWE contract.

TNA really weren't worth going after in 2003 when Raven turned up, but WWE would totally go after them now. Panda and Spike might also find themselves in trouble as well.

Didnt Punk get the permission off Tommy Dreamer, who got in hot water for letting him do it.

  3. PWI, Inside Wrestling, The Wrestler etc were all known as Apter mags. Before I knew who Dave Meltzer was, to me Apter was the voice of pro wrestling, I took everything he wrote as gospel. The guy did everything, you can spot him at various shows doing ringside photography. His site 1wrestling.com was the first internet site I found when I first got the Internet (just checked and its still going!!!)

  4. Did The Wolves do that half-arsed, slightly embarrassed howling before they came to TNA, or is that their concession to "character" required on the national TV stage?

Davey Richards did it a lot in ROH, I dont recall Edwards doing it much, if at all.

  5.

Once that deal ended, Setanta Sports (UK version, when that company was still going) grabbed Vengeance \ Armageddon didn't they? I'm sure they announced it about 2 days before the actual PPV. All the rest ended up on Sky Box Office, IIRC, until the new TV deal kicked in.

I remember Royal Rumble 2004 being on Setanta but I think that was the only PPV on there.

IIRC, Armageddon 2003 was not shown on any channel, live or on delay, here at all. I remember waiting for the DVD which was released about 4 months later!

Setanta showed Rumble, Backlash, Vengeance and Armageddon from 2004

Armageddon 2003 was on in-between contracts so I dont think anyone ended up broadcasting it, but the breakdown in talks between Sky and WWE were that Sky were not willing to pay what Channel 4 had for those four. They reached a deal where these became Sky Box Office ppvs.

  6. what number is the final issue? , only one place around here sells it but sometimes has months old issues sat on the shelf, i'll buy the last one to say farewell to it

    issue 237

Sad to see it go, bought it regularly for the 15 years, but FSM is far superior these days and the articles (the recent issue with the Brian Dixon interview is fantastic) are far better. The constant Cena sniping was ridiculous, his name would be brought up in pieces that had absolutely nowt to do with him.

Print media really is done in wrestling which is sad because my fave memories was going into town and each time Id come home with a different mag. Even PWI is reduced to 6 issues a year, and The Wrestler/Inside Wrestling have become 1 and is published 2-3 times a year.
