  1. Yeah, Punk/MJF is kinda one of the best storylines they've done in the last couple years that I've been watching (although that's a little more about AEW's inconsistency with storytelling than it is MJF/Punk being the be all and end all).  The Joe/MJF match was really good and the one 15 minutes of time they built to it were good too but it still felt rushed (don't get me wrong Joe shoving MJF was a great "oh shit, i want to see that play out more" moment)

Punk/MJF managed to squeeze a fair amount between the different segments and two matches. It was a little vunerable to Tony Kahns "each dynamite will give you the next 10 minutes of the story" booking of the time but yeah there was some strong character work and they'd been building to the third match from the moment MJF lost (although it was clearly always supposed to be MJF giving Punk his "most embarassing loss ever" by beating him for the title)

Still glad Punks gone and he definitely fucked up a bunch of storylines but might as well appreciate the bits that were good

  2. Yeah Toni Storm's character is in a good enough place (both in terms of being fairly well defined + over) you could absolutely sideline her from the title picture with some sort of feud (although the problem is the most logical feuds keep here around the title)

Ideally they want to spread out Hayter's return/recapturing the belt, Hayter/Baker feud and then Storm regaining the title (from heel Baker?). She's definitely in a place you could get a great reaction from her beating a heel champion.

Then again, AEW and sustained momentum haven't exactly been a thing so yeah.. maybe strike while the iron is hot

  3. To say something more positive - I would thoroughly recommend Eden (the Mia Hansen-Løve one not the human trafficing one) which slaps my Rave/Masturbation analogy in the face for being a dickhead

Felt it really captures rave/club culture and it's based on the writer/director's brothers actual experiences in the Paris music scene in the 90s. Which means you get some nice hopefully true moments like a pair of teenagers turning up at a house party with their first pressed record and being desperate to put it on. They do, and you watch a house party full of people start to listen to "Da Funk" for the first time (Daft Punk are sort of Jay and Silent Bob in the film)

It also gets into the darker side of that scene pretty well. The whole film basically comes up them comes down

  4. Artwork reminds me of point horror / fear street book covers from back in the day.

And yeah i never got Human Traffic despite being very much of that world. Raving is like masturbation, great fun but i'm not that fussed about watching other people do it nor witter on about how cool they are for doing it.

I genuinely was hoping something bad would befall Danny Dyer's character as at least it would give the film a point (albeit a trite "drugs are bad" point). Instead they smirk and say something about "when you've done too much it's time to chill out" and then the film just carries on thinking it's the coolest fucking thing in the world.

There's a couple amusing observations (the Howard Marks bit, the comedown bit) but yeah it's just all so bloody self satisfied. Also far too many normal people for underground dance music

  5. It's worth doing a search on product/company name + reddit on google (the best way of getting real human information on the internet these days).

I had seen some adverts for some "book nook" things (basically little diorama model kits that are in the shape of a book) that'd make a nice birthday present for a friend. Turns out the ones being advertised on facebook were just someone reselling another companies product at twice the price.

  6. You could maybe handwave that the dropping to the mat was to try and make MJF throw the chair away and that 5 more minutes is some sort of "we've legit drawn, but give me 5 more minutes, if I can't win in 5 then it's over"

But yeah they just wanted to make callbacks to the first match and maybe didn't fully think through the logic 😛 That's wrestling eh

Liked the idea in the countout spot of "oh crap what did I just do" but also he could've broken the countout himself right? Surely him helping Max back into the ring, making sure he wasn't dead then doing a nearfall would've been a more emotional / dramatic moment anyways

  7. I don't think it's outrageous to suggest that some people don't know the term scissoring in a sexual context.

Yeah it's all "nudge nudge wink wink" but the Acclaimed on television do state that scissoring is simply a gesture like a handshake that is done between friends.

TBF they do a pretty good job of allowing it to be a bit attitude era naughtiness but also seemingly be genuine at the same time. "Scissor me Daddy Ass" is somehow a genuine statement about a paternal bond between an old peroxide blonde beefcake and his young gay friend and a flaming statement

This is just the "suck it" of the current era (and one that's arguably more obtuse in terms of being sexual). I'm gonna assume we have the same objections to any parent that let their child wear such a TShirt back in the day ;)

  8. I did genuinely enjoy Toni Storm's whole schtick around the Saraya interactions.   The way it started with a fairly genuine mistake (and obviously wrestlers cannot tell the difference between mistakes and intentional actions) her reactions to that and then the escalation with her continuing frustration at everything that was happening (even decisions she was making, like hitting Ruby) actually made the whole "tag team has issues because the match needs them to" genuinely feel like good character work.

Saraya did play a small part in making that whole thing work (although it was mostly coming from Toni Storm's new ability to convey a character)

  9. The match Sammy had on Rampage had "Luna's Dad" as his little description so yeah possibly on some sort of paternity leave (well, one that involves still doing squash matches on Rampage 😛 )

Always was going to be a lot of names not on this card but same time it's a little suprising that 2 of your 4 pillars (and wrestlers who main evented the last PPV) aren't on it, nor are 2 of your big singles champions (one of whom is managed by a very recognisable ex WWE guy). But then it's this card. Shouldn't be suprised by anything at this point

I reckon Daniel Garcia would be a good shout.  Him coming out in a Blackpool Combat Club would likely get a big pop. The prodigal son comes home.

Thinking about it Garcia, Guevara and Danielson working around a rehabbing arm seems fairly plausible.

The first two have a good claim to being on the card in terms of being homegrown and fairly over, Guervara loves doing stupid stuff in these sort of matches, they're kayfabe close and you could sort of handwave something about Danielson's matches against the two of them having given him respect for their abilities or something.

  11. R.E Barry

    Spoiler

I think it's just a very weird manifestation of her guilt / inner thoughts (yeah, standard copout answer).

Obviously we're meant to think it's the guy from earlier (and pretty sure he's played by the actor) but he's just representing "the darkness" that's now following her due to her actions / being with Barry. That's why he's like this shadow, dressed all in black, always at her back.

He's supposed to resemble the person she fucked over recerntly but once she's locked the door there's several lines that are the same as the hitman she kills at the end of I wanna say season 3? Something about "can't believe she shot me in the eye". It's all the bad things she's done; all the people who've been hurt in her and Barry's story.

Child dying I assume is her fear of the child she does love (in a neglectful alchoholic way) dying. The fact he dies in her fantasy as a result of her neglect and not the hitman exacting revenge is probably telling. She's as afraid of what she's become as she is afraid of Barry's past catching up with them.

The car crashing through the wall? I'm not sure. Maybe it's her "seeing the light". Or just some directoral flair. Or maybe a direct reference to something i've missed? Or maybe all three :D

  12. So just to throw a mildly contentious log on to the bonfire :D

So people like to talk a lot about flippy wrestling / whatever they don't like in AEW not appealing to the casual fan. The idea that the two main companies should be looking to draw in more casuals and they need to cater to them.

Is there ever much conversation about whether this sort of cinematic WWE stuff appeals to the casual? Cos the problem I've seen is that out of context it can come across cheesy af. I do a yearly get together with friends to watch the royal rumble, 95% of the people who come only watch wrestling at that get together.  The finish to Owens/Reigns did not come across well to people who don't watch the product. It works if you're invested but the acting, the WWE rhythm (dragging everything in a segment out) was just not enough to engage them and then the problem when you're doing "very serious story" is that if the viewer doesn't buy it it all comes across a bit ridiculous.

Now I'm not saying the segment was shit, just that out of context it didn't really play. You already needed to have been invested from other moments for that to work. So how does that appeal to the casual fan?

(Also after the rumble I throw on a bunch of elite trios matches, funnily enough the people doing fast paced athletic stuff and walloping each other seemed to win over the casual fans pretty darn well)

Is it against their new rules?

It was Christian's kid so likely all been set up. Possible production didn't know (or maybe Jack did it in the moment) but that's still a production issue :D

  14. I was under the impression he's too banged up to wrestle (I remember people mentioning how protected he was when he took some move from some heel earlier in the year)

If he thinks he's capable of having one more match I'm definitely game for that

  15. I think there's a fair chance it all goes down next week. RVD (or other non AEW ECW wrestler) comes out, we do Walk, they do a shortish match with whatever he can still do and you've got a pretty big memorable moment for your 200th show. Maybe even some sort of promo linking RVD through to ECW to indies to AEW. Look at where you are/look at where we started kinda thing.

But yeah, equally this could be to get a non AEW big name for Wembley..

This is very true. Everyone was Team Jericho again after the recent cracker he had against Roddy Strong, then the week after he stunk the joint out against Adam Cole and we all remembered it's not cool to like him anymore.

He had a great TV match that was this fun real life version of a Smackdown 2 backstage brawl. He got props.

He then finished a big feud with an absolutely stinker of a PPV match.

Jericho absolutely does put out the occasional good match and maybe people need to remember that a little more but the problem most of the time he gets in AEW (which is not an insignificant amount of time) is long and winding and often not very interesting and very repetitive.

For a show people were hoping would have dream matches not "suprisingly fun" matches I can see the disapointment (this is not helping my "i'd be up for going if it's a good card" thoughts to the show). Especially when you've got someone like Ospreay who in many's eyes is a simple layup for a dream match given he's had little AEW exposure and lots of people like his wrestling

Also, regarding "people's" attitude towards Jericho it does feel like voices elsewhere are being used in the conversation (and argued again). There'll always be some child or adult child on twitter who loves everything or hates everything. We really don't need to include their voice in this conversation that much. It's like if my friend referenced his 5 year old's opinons when discussing politics. It might occasionally be relevant, mostly it's not that helpful

Yes we treated ourselves to All In tickets and parking there, but that's kind of our 'one big event' this year as we won't be doing anything else. Sucks to be poor and disabled, but at least we don't have additional charges like those in London.

Obviously I can't speak to people on your social media but surely you've just highlighted the common issue there? Everyone's treats are broadcast far and wide on social media and all the other stuff is not. Social media is generally cherry picked thus giving the impression that everyone is living it up (people originally started talking about this in relation to a general "everyone else is having a better time than you" feeling but it could now feel more like "everyone else isn't having financial issues / isn't being responsible")

Don’t think it’s that deep, just looked to be an easy visual to show starks was turning

It also felt pretty Owen-ey. The slightly maniacal waving of the trophy in the air whilst ignoring Liger definitely felt like it was somewhat inspired by that slammy bit..

Prey is a great film, the best Predator since Predator 2, so that's a good shout.

I remember Young Indiana Jones being great, it's criminal that Disney haven't managed to secure the rights and add it in with all the other Indy films.

But yeah, I'm struggling to think of straight sequel movies that are as good, or better than the original.

Before Sunset is better than Before Sunrise

And there's an argument Before Midnight is better than both.

They're also films that only work because of what's happened before (I tend to just count them as one film)

A lot of franchises have better later films when they figure out what they're going for or can use all the history to their advantage (on top of Carbombs suggestions you've got later Mission Impossibles, later Fast and Furious, "Logan" as an X-Men film, Toy Story 3 & 4, the Harry Potter directed by Cuaron,
