  1. The British Board of Film Classification is to more closely scrutinise horror movies under new guidelines for certifying films.

The BBFC said it would pay attention to the impact of gore and strong visuals in its deliberations.

But after asking the public, there will be more flexibility for strong language in films given a 15 certificate.

The BBFC consultation showed the sexualisation of young women in film and music videos to be a major concern.

The findings revealed the content of some music promos and ease of accessibility to online pornography are also a public worry.

Other amendments that are being made to the organisation's guidelines include tightening up of language in U certificate films, deemed suitable for all viewers.

The BBFC has also said it will give greater weight to the theme and tone of films which are issued with parental guidance (PG) and suitable for 12-year-olds and over (12A) certificates.

    12A 'confusing'

Changes to the guidelines will come into force on 24 February.

The organisation admitted the 12A classification continues to confuse many viewers, and further work to improve understanding of the certification would be carried out this year.

The BBFC's website states that 12A means that "anyone aged 12 or over can go and see the film unaccompanied".

Children younger than 12 may see the film "if they are accompanied by an adult (eg someone over the age of 18), who must watch the film with them".

Jane Levy in 2013's Evil Dead

Horror film Evil Dead was given an 18 certificate due to its gore and violence

The BBFC's exercise involved some 10,000 members of the public, with teenagers as well as their parents taking part for the first time.

They were asked their opinions on how various issues in film and video, including sex and violence, should be handled.

BBFC director David Cooke said the exercise "ensures that we continue to be in step with what the public wants and expects in order to make sensible and informed viewing decisions".

But he also conceded there was "room for improvement", referring to the need to bring more clarity to the "very important" 12A certificate.

The BBFC also said that its respondents largely agreed with the 12A certificate for 2012's The Woman in Black, despite it being the most complained-about film of the past four years.

just consisted of him shouting at Asking Alexandria in one episode of and I See Stars in the other. It was produced with Sumerian Records in an effort to give those bands some kind of exposure in the states.

they are quite cringe-worthy, but if your some who likes to see hipster metal kids who are more concered with thier haircare products get put through their paces, its worth a look

  4. Tell me about it.

in other awesome US tv drama news, Mad Men is splitting its final season into two parts, same as Breaking Bad did (both shows are on AMC in the states). Season 7: Part 1 (The Beginning) will be broadcast this spring (consisting of 7 episodes) and Season 7: Part 2 (The End of an Era) will contain the final 7 episodes and broadcast in spring 2015

  5. US Prohibition-era drama Boardwalk Empire is to end after its upcoming fifth season, HBO has announced.

The decision comes three months after the cable network renewed the show for a fifth outing.

"We've decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion," creator Terry Winter said.

The show, starring Steve Buscemi, is shown on Sky Atlantic in the UK.

The show has won 17 Emmys since it first aired, including Martin Scorsese winning for his direction of the series' big budget pilot that premiered in 2010.

"It has been an incredible honour to bring this powerful and groundbreaking series to our subscribers," HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said.

  6. Lamb Of God have confirmed that guitarist Mark Morton will not be partaking in their upcoming European dates - including their UK tour with Huntress and Decapitated - owing to a "family emergency".

The news was confirmed during the band's first show of the tour.

  7. yeh, the lineup's always kind of mesh into one another these days. All these bands have played the top festivals, several times. People seem to be especially anti-Download this year though, there's a certain number of people who seem to be willing it to fail, it's all abit stupid. Both lineups are gonna be great.

Its hard to understand why people seem to be anti-Download this year. there was the whole thing about Avenged Sevenfold headlining (despite the fact we saw it coming a mile off) yet people would have also complained if there had been a repeat from years past.

Ghost playing Sonisphere is not a huge suprise as they have played Download for the past 3 years running. Mastondon will have a new album out (or very close to being out) by July so thats a logical booking, Slayer are working on new material also and Alice In Chains are a great live act too.

Download had a very strong lineup in 2012 and a good lineup last year, so I was expecting it to take a bit of a dip this year but they have still booked some great acts. I doubt that I will end up even going for a day this year just to have a bit of a break, but theres no reason to be against the festival in any way. The only thing for me to say about is that Volbeat have to play the Main Stage, have really come into their own over the past 2/3 years and in my opinion had the album of 2013

  8. christ, I remember seeing Capdown in the upstairs room of a pub with about 40 people in it. Must be about 12 years ago now, maybe more. They were one of those bands that everyone in the local scene claimed to like, by which they meant they liked 'Ska Wars' because that was the only Capdown song that got played in the local rock club, and was always preceded by Sublime's 'Date Rape'. It was like some kind of ritual up here, you heard 'Date Rape' and you knew 'Ska Wars' was coming on immediatley after it, and it went on like that for the better part of a decade

    Edit:

This was the pub in question, The Bull Inn in Hull
