13 Assassins was a pretty good re-make.

Time has been much kinder to Robocop than Terminator. Robocop's satire remains sharp, and its special effects still look good in general. The Terminator, in contrast, is really creaky in terms of special effects, and the look of it feels incredibly dated now.
As a fan of the Japanese

Really interesting. After 200 years of people digging though, that site must be absolutely fucked.
Agreed. I actually can

I followed it up with Robocop on Netflix which turned out to be the directors cut. I'm still stunned that a US studio funded it. It's an amazing film, borders on being a black comedy and is for me one of the greatest satires of 80s corporate America that was made. I'm 90% sure they didn't realise that when they greenlit it. The "somebody call a paramedic" line after ED-209 shoots the guy in the boardroom still makes me laugh out loud.
Coincidentally, I actually watched Robocop yesterday also, as part of my ongoing

Apologies for the utter twattery of such a request, but does anyone have stream links for Galahad / Dickens?

Was there any music on Pac Man other than crazy sirens and the sound effects of munching the pills? There was no actual beat or melody was there?

Sorry, but I'm not having that one.

Going back to the Max Headroom transmission interruption that was mentioned earlier, some great stuff to read here:-
That was quite an interesting read. If he is making it up, then he seems to have gone to awful lengths to create the characters, locations and situations for very little notoriety in return. I like the way he feels he has to end the piece by debunking to accusations that he was somehow beyond the Superbowl / porno signal intrusion of 2009.

That's why the guys who hijacked the emergency broadcast system were so smart. What a great backdoor to exploit! It's not the first time the EBS has proved fallible, either. I've read about phony

Found what I was looking for before. Hurray. Get your eyes round these cheeky border line image right infringements.

I wonder who these two could possibly be? (Mechanised attack)

True Lies era Arnie turns up to provide the heroics once again in Crime Wave.

And the duo from Ikari Warriors are an obvious pair of John Rambo clones. So unofficial tie ins with Arnie and Sly's films were all over at one time.

The Great Giana Sisters? Famous for causing controversy with Nintendo for being a totally obvious Mario Clone?

There was a piece the Retro Gamer magazine a few months ago that highlighted just how many unofficial

We should be moving this conversation into the retro games thread, really.
Agreed. We seem to be getting a decent bit of discussion going on this topic today.

There was a pirate TV station in Birmingham in the eighties that broadcast on BBC 2 after that finished for the night. It went weeks before the authorities even noticed.
Yeah, I

I've read a few bits and pieces about that signal intrusion incident and seen the footage a few times, but hadn't seen those clips of the news reports before. I remember reading something about it where the transcript of exactly what was said by the Max Headroom character was picked apart and analyzed. Apparently, there were a few hints and cryptic clues in there that seemed to be aimed at the higher ups in the TV stations that were attacked, which maybe hinted that the perpetrators could have been disgruntled former employees. Still, amazing that they were never found and punished for a stunt of such bare faced cheek.
Â
I'm surprised no one has claimed responsibility for it with this amount of time having lapsed since it took place actually. Even by fakers craving the notoriety. You'd think they would have liked their motives more clearly understood too, unless they really did just do it for a laugh...

Edit - Here's another pretty cool amateur video covering both the Vrillon and

Some of you will already be familiar with this, most probably. But for those that aren't, I think it's pretty interesting. Basically, during a run of the mill broadcast of the news in 1977, the audio signal was hijacked by a voice, claiming to be that of some sort of alien, warning the earth to disarm its weapons and live together in peace. The signal intrusion lasted several minutes, and I don't think they ever caught the perpetrators.

You see that article online today about a 107 year old man who went down in a blaze of glory in a shootout with the cops? Amazing. What a guy!

Don't have a link right now, but I'm sure you could find it easy enough..
Yeah, they were talking a bit about that on the BBC World Service radio last night. Here's an article -

One of my favourites of Martial Arts tournament sub genre is Bloodsport 2. More or less nowt to do with the first but its got that super dodgy, complete rip off of Enter the Dragon feel to it.Bloodsport 2 is class, yeah. I bought the 3rd one a while ago too, but never got round to watching it. Bloodsport 4 is dreadful though. That has even less to do with the previous ones. At least there

I like the BT logo, it's not really high art, but it does the job that it needs to do.
I just think, again, like the scribbly black metal logos, that the look of this one sums up the sound brilliantly. In fact, some of the album sleeves (War Master and Realm of Chaos in particular) represent my favourite ever heavy metal album cover artworks.
Â
A lot of the lyrics and themes obviously pertain to war, devastation, destruction and the extinction of mankind, so during the period of Games Workshop artists teaming up with the band to provide the cover artwork and logo, I thought it was pretty much a match made in heaven (or hell, as the case may be). Growing up as a fan of the Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 models, magazines and artwork of the early / mid 90

God forbid someone shows a bit of originality and breaks from the norm eh?
There are at least 7 acts in that line-up alone that have done just that.
