  1. Had no idea I was included here until something got reposted in another thread. Genuinely touched at the kind words given how infrequently I post.

I voted for Frankie. Quite aside from being genuinely pleasant, and organising the secret santa, he went above and beyond a while back when I'd mentioned that my dad was in a bad way, offering advice and emailing me over a bunch of useful documents and so on that really helped matters. Completely unexpected and more than I could have expected from a stranger on a wrestling board.

Also, plenty of people on the list I would have voted for if I could have had more than one- SOC especially, the man's a walking fountain of inspiration. Plenty also notable by their absence, specifically Houchen and Butch.

  2. Not been, but as it's so close I know loads of people that have, in fact the fella that runs it drinks in my local occasionally. Line-up wise they do really well, and I always hear good stuff about it. It's a really young crowd it seems, which as a grumpy old cunt puts me right off.

  3. Yeah, this is really close to my house so every year I'm tempted to go, but I can't help think that a Black Flag reunion show would be more cringe than anything else. The descendents were ruined for me last year with that shocker of a London show (and the make-up show a few months later wasn't brilliant, IMO), and I really don't want Black Flag tainted for me the same way.

  4. My housemates at uni were split 50/50 in a debate as to whether I was a foot fetishist or anal addict. The truth is far more sinister.

I'm surely hardly anyone here knows the band Lacuna Coil, but Christina Scabbia is definitely the fittest woman I've ever been near enough to smell. I can't believe she's 40.

My mate did tech for them for a couple of big tours, apparently they're fucking useless with equipment, no idea what they're doing. He hates the music too. Seem to remember he quite liked her though..

  5. I spent friday shooting a new video for a band called Iris, based here in Kent. Not really my sort of thing, very polished emo-ish pop punk with occasional screamy bits and whatnot. A bit day to remember/four year strong. Undeniably very good at what they do though, thought it might interest a few people on here. The song's called The Shade and you might see the vid on Kerrang in the coming months. That might be bollocks though.

Anyway, they can be found at www.iris.uk.com if anyone's interested.

  6. That's them. Homeward Bound is one of my favourite albums of the last couple of years. Fucking phenomenal band. My mate plays bass in Southport and has played with them a bunch. Hopefully booking them for a show here fairly soon.

  7. Dunno if anyone here will be interested, but I just discoveredthat on the 27th of this month, the Down and Outs are playing at the Black Heart in Camden with Caves as one of several support acts. Haven't been this excited for a gig for a long time.

  8. Having rearranged my living room, the aerial cable doesn't reach the telly so I'm limited to DVDs, lovefilm instant and downloads. As such I've been watching TV shows I've not seen before. Last week or two:

Porridge- seen before, obviously, remains absolutely brilliant.

Friday Night Dinner- Hit and miss but occasionally had me weeping with laughter. The dad is fantastic.

The Thick of It - Was surprised that this lived up to the hype and more. Utterly wonderful, although seeing Langham make nonce jokes is a bit uncomfortable knowing what we know since.

Robin Hood (newish bbc one)- cack.

Jeeves and Wooster- A bit too gentle for my liking but pleasant enough.

Cracker- Fantastic, although the specials after the main series were shite.

  9. Has anyone heard the McCartney/'Nirvana' collaboration yet?

It's fucking bonkers seeing McCartney front a full throttle, post-punk alt-rock band. It's bloody ace, though.

I thought it was pretty cool seeing them up there together, as a 'what-the-fuck' moment or what have you, but the song was dogshit. Sub-audioslave alt-rock by the numbers.

  10. I thought Kurt and Courtney was pretty poor too.

In other news, now watching that Jonestown documentary. One definite upside to the new Nintendo is the quality of the youtube app, watching this straight on my telly. Is very good so far, I'd actually forgotten that it all began in Indianapolis. Nobody there talked about it much when I lived there. Understandably.

  11. Just spent a rather great weekend in Plymouth, guess this is the thread to share it in.

One of my best mates has recently joined Southport, who are original Snuff guitarist Simon Wells' current band, on bass. I hopped along for the trip to see them and they're fantastic. I've been listening to Snuff and Souuthport since I was a teenager, so to see a mate up on stage with Wells all these years later is very odd, but very cool. The band are mod-tinged melodic punk, and the new album is sounding fucking amazing, should be out in a couple of months. Best of all, they're playing in Norwich next weekend with Leatherface, for my money the best British punk band of all time. Vanilla Pod are on it too, and they're always fun. After a year or two of being a boring sod, I'm finding my love for going to gigs again.

Also worth a mention is the pub the show was at, Jack Chams in Plymouth. No attitudes, good beers, amazing selection of tunes being played (not often you hear Bangers, Lemuria, Bridge and Tunnel etc being played in a pub). Skate videos on constantly and Turnonegro tat everywhere. The place is owned by Ben from Tribute to Nothing as well which I guess explains the Turbonegro love as his brother is now their singer I believe. Lovely place.

Finally, on the drive back, I was exposed to Caves new album for the first time, and it's wonderful. Girl fronted slightly gruff pop punk. Mildly shoddy production but that's a very minor quibble with an almost perfect album.

  12. Sadly it was all a bit last minute, so we had to make do with just the carrots. The party had a fairly diverse group of people and only about 4 of them understood the costumes without being prompted. Plus Ray's missus fell and smashed her teeth on her way over at midnight so he disappeared to look after her, so from then until about 4 I was just a pillock in a banana suit. Still, it was a lot of fun and I got to experience a withering glance from the girl in H and M as I bought the yellow tights.
